Hader pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth while allowing only one run and posting three strikeouts during a save against the Cardinals on Wednesday.

This was Hader's first save since Aug. 5, breaking a streak of three blown opportunities. The Brewers need all the wins they can get inside the NL Central division, so manager Craig Counsell was very aggressive, turning to his closer in the eighth with a three-run lead. Owners should expect more unusual usage for Hader, as the Brewers try to close the gap between themselves and both the Cardinals and Cubs. Hader is 2-5 with 26 saves, a 2.87 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 109 strikeouts in 59.2 innings this season.

Howard was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.

Howard has a 3.91 ERA in 42 appearances out of the Triple-A bullpen, but he has been much worse (7.56 ERA) in six appearances for the Rockies. He should offer bullpen depth over the rest of the season.

Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.

He gave up six runs in five innings Tuesday in a spot start against the Red Sox that represented his big-league debut. Garcia is one of the Rockies' better pitching prospects, but he's probably not good enough to have success in Coors Field with any consistency. Sam Howard was recalled in a corresponding move. It's possible Garcia could get a few more spot starts when rosters expand in September.

Diaz (neck) is available out of the bullpen Wednesday against the Cubs, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Diaz hasn't pitched since exiting Saturday's game against the Braves with right trap tightness, but he's good to go Wednesday after tossing a bullpen with no issues Tuesday. The right-hander has produced disappointing results in his first year with the Mets, racking up 25 saves while posting a 5.55 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 80:20 K:BB in 48.2 innings.

Yamamoto was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right forearm strain, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.

This move comes after Yamamoto was tagged for six runs across 3.2 innings in his most recent outing -- easily his worst start since joining the Marlins in mid-June. Depending on the severity of the issue, the 23-year-old rookie may not pitch again this season; the Marlins are well out of playoff contention and have little reason to push Yamamoto, who is already approaching a career-high in innings. Robert Dugger was summoned from Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move and will replace Yamamoto in the rotation, starting Thursday against the Reds.

Pomeranz threw 1.1 scoreless innings in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Pomeranz gave up four earned runs over a three-outing stretch from Aug. 7-13, but he has been stellar since, throwing 6.1 scoreless frames over five outings while giving up just two hits and posting a 9:2 K:BB. He has generally worked in middle relief since joining the Brewers, and has accumulated four holds with his new club thus far.

Wingenter will serve as the Padres' opening pitcher for Wednesday's series finale versus the Dodgers, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

While the right-hander will be making the first start of his career at either the major- or minor-league level, he's not expected to work more than an inning or two before giving way to the bullpen. The Padres haven't named a primary pitcher behind Wingenter, so it's likely that manager Andy Green will take a "Johnny Wholestaff" approach to the series finale and mix and match with several different relievers. Wingenter owns a 4.60 ERA and 63:24 K:BB over 45 innings this season.

Garcia (0-1) took the loss against Boston on Tuesday, pitching five innings and giving up six runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out two.

Garcia was called up Tuesday to make the first major-league appearance of his career, but it certainly did not play out as he hoped. The 25-year-old struck out Mookie Betts to begin the game but walked the next batter and proceeded to give up a two-out, run-scoring single to J.D. Martinez. Things didn't get any easier the rest of the night, as Garcia served up a trio of homers while issuing four more walks before departing after five innings facing a six-run deficit. Despite the difficult debut, Garcia is likely to stick in the rotation with the Rockies' staff ravaged by injuries. He's next scheduled to take on Pittsburgh in Colorado on Sunday.

Iglesias allowed two hits and struck out one across 1.1 innings to earn the save Tuesday against the Marlins.

Iglesias was handed a relatively comfortable three-run lead and looked sharp in recording the final four outs of the contest. He entered the game with the tying run at the plate, but got out of the jam by retiring Martin Prado. While he allowed two hits in the final frame, both were only singles, one of which didn't leave the infield. It was a bounce-back effort for Iglesias, who had surrendered three earned runs across his last 1.1 innings of work entering Tuesday.

Patino (finger) was placed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Amarillo on Tuesday.

The move is retroactive to Aug. 25. Patino exited following the third inning in his last start after developing a blister on his right finger. Though an update on his condition has not been made available, the Padres are taking no chances with their prized pitching prospect, and there's a chance he doesn't pitch again this season. The 19-year-old has compiled a 6-8 record along with a 2.57 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 123:38 K:BB in 94.2 innings across two minor-league levels.
