  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Earns relief win

Treinen (1-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Padres, striking out three across 1.1 scoreless innings.

Treinen is yet to allow an earned run this season, posting five straight scoreless appearances and fanning eight in five innings across that stretch. The right-hander looks to be getting back to his 2018 form after an injury-plagued 2019 season.

  • Mets' Robert Gsellman: Gives up three runs in two innings

Gsellman allowed three runs on four hits over two innings in a no-decision against the Nationals on Wednesday. He struck out one batter.

Juan Soto tagged Gsellman for a three-run homer in the first inning, though the Mets did even more damage against opposing starter Anibal Sanchez in the bottom of the frame. Gsellman was making his first start since 2017 and will have to build up on the job after missing the start of the season with a triceps injury, with the Mets down several pitchers in the starting rotation. He threw only 33 pitches Wednesday.

  • Tyler Matzek RP | NYY

Braves' Tyler Matzek: Tagged with loss

Matzek (2-1) took the loss Wednesday versus the Yankees, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out two in 2.1 innings.

Matzek served in a primary pitcher role Wednesday, but the two runs he allowed in the fourth inning were enough to stick him with the loss. It's the first appearance where Matzek has allowed runs this season -- he has a 1.80 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 12 strikeouts in 10 innings while primarily working in the middle innings.

  • Marlins' Jordan Yamamoto: Struggles again

Yamamoto allowed four earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five across 3.1 innings Wednesday against the Blue Jays. He did not factor into the decision.

Yamamoto was given an early eight-run cushion, but couldn't work deep enough into the game to qualify for a chance at the win. He worked two scoreless frames, but was then derailed by a pair of two-run home runs. The result was a short outing, and he failed to work efficiently by racking up 75 pitches in order to retire just 10 batters. It's unclear if he will get another turn through the rotation, pending the status of the Sandy Alcantara (illness), Caleb Smith (undisclosed), Jose Urena (illness) and Robert Dugger (undisclosed).

  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

    Dodgers' Joe Kelly: Suspension reduced

Kelly (shoulder) won his appeal and had his suspension reduced from eight games to five games, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Kelly remains on the injured list with shoulder inflammation. While the suspension will take place once he's back on the active roster, he'll be able to return to the mound slightly sooner than expected. It's unclear when the right-hander will be healthy enough to return from the injured list. Kelly was effective as a middle reliever to begin the season, tossing 6.1 scoreless innings while posting a 5:5 K:BB over seven appearances.

  • Conner Menez RP | CHC

Giants' Conner Menez: Optioned off roster

Menez was optioned to the Giants' alternate training site Wednesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Menez has allowed just three earned runs in 11.1 innings for the Giants this season, giving him a 2.38 ERA to go with a 0.97 WHIP, though his 8:5 K:BB is rather unremarkable. He'll have a good shot to return to the roster in the near future when the Giants need another arm in the bullpen.

  • Rico Garcia RP | BAL

Giants' Rico Garcia: Optioned to alternate camp

Garcia was optioned to the Giants' alternate training site Wednesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Following a fairly effective start to the season, Garcia has faltered in two of his last three outings. He gave up two runs on five hits while recording just two outs Tuesday and will spend some time at the alternate training site as a result. Dereck Rodriguez was added to the 28-man roster in a corresponding move.

  • Giants' Dereck Rodriguez: Joins major-league club

Rodriguez was added to the Giants' major-league roster Wednesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Manager Gabe Kapler said Wednesday that Rodriguez's velocity increased in recent throwing sessions while serving on the taxi squad, and he'll join the pitching staff along with right-hander Trevor Cahill. Cahill is scheduled to start Wednesday but is reportedly only built up to approximately 50 pitches. Rodriguez could serve as a long reliever if Cahill isn't able to last very long against the Astros. Rodriguez made 28 appearances (16 starts) for San Francisco last season, posting a 5.64 ERA and 71:36 K:BB over 99 innings.

  • Bryse Wilson RP | MIL

Braves' Bryse Wilson: Wild in season debut

Wilson worked 1.2 innings in relief during Tuesday's 9-6 loss to the Yankees, giving up two runs on one hit and four walks while striking out two.

After starter Touki Toussaint needed 86 pitches to record 12 outs, Wilson was called upon to provide some length out of the bullpen in his season debut. The right-hander struggled to locate his offerings, pumping in only 25 of his 52 pitches for strikes while giving up a solo home run to Aaron Judge. The Braves will have a need for a fifth starter during next week's series with the Nationals, but Wilson's wretched showing Tuesday may have temporarily taken him out of the mix for a spot in the rotation.

  • Mets' Robert Gsellman: Enters starting rotation

Gsellman will start Wednesday against Washington and will be stretched out as a starter moving forward, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The Mets needed another starter after Michael Wacha landed on the injured list with shoulder inflammation Sunday. Gsellman has 29 career big-league starts under his belt, though the last one of those came back in 2017. He has a lifetime 4.60 ERA in 156.2 innings as a starter, slightly worse than his 4.25 mark in 152.1 frames in relief. While the Mets will stretch him out going forward, it's unlikely that he'll be able to pitch particularly deep in Wednesday's contest, given that he threw just a single inning in his lone appearance this season after missing the start of the year with triceps tightness.
