  • Sam Long RP | KC

Giants' Sam Long: Contract officially selected

Long's contract was selected by the Giants on Wednesday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Long will make his major-league debut Wednesday against the Rangers, but he's expected to serve as the primary pitcher behind opener Zack Littell. However, the southpaw is expected to take the rotation spot that had been occupied by Logan Webb (shoulder). Long made six appearances (three starts) in the minors to begin the year, and he posted a 1.99 ERA and 0.79 WHIP in 22.2 innings.

Giants' Sam Long: Working behind opener Wednesday

Long is expected to serve as the Giants' primary pitcher behind opener Zack Littell in Wednesday's game in Texas, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Though he won't technically start in his MLB debut, Long is expected to slide into the rotation spot previously occupied by Logan Webb (shoulder), who moved to the injured list last week. After joining the Giants on a minor-league deal in free agency this offseason, the 25-year-old Long has quickly established himself as an intriguing prospect thus far during the minor-league season. Through six outings between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento, Long has posted a 1.99 ERA and 37:5 K:BB in 22.2 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .165 average.

  • Brent Suter RP | LAA

Brewers' Brent Suter: Records fourth hold

Suter recorded two outs and picked up his fourth hold of the season in Tuesday's victory over the Reds.

Suter was tagged for three earned runs his previous time out, but he bounced back with his sixth scoreless appearance in his last seven trips to the mound. Suter has not been as sharp early on as he was the last two seasons, and he 's not working in a role that is typically fantasy-friendly. However, he is providing more value than your standard middle reliever, as in addition to his four holds he has six wins -- a mark that ties him for the team lead.

  • Dinelson Lamet RP | LAD

Padres' Dinelson Lamet: Loses rematch with Cubs

Lamet (1-1) lost Tuesday's 7-1 defeat at the hands of the Cubs, allowing four runs on four hits and a walk with six strikeouts over five innings. He left the game once he struggled in the sixth.

Lamet cruised through five innings having allowed a single run and just two baserunners but surrendered two singles and a double to begin the sixth and was promptly removed. While the results weren't there, the biggest takeaway is the season-high 78 pitches Lamet threw as he's now increased his pitch count in five straight appearances. Given its record and lofty expectations, San Diego will most likely continue to bring the electric righty along slowly, though Lamet looks to be making strides toward fully recovering from his forearm and elbow injuries.

  • Sam Long RP | KC

Giants' Sam Long: Could follow opener Wednesday

Long won't start Wednesday against the Rangers but could work as a bulk reliever, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Manager Gabe Kapler already confirmed the 25-year-old will be promoted from Triple-A Sacramento for Wednesday's contest, though it will be reliever Zack Littell who receives the start. Assuming Long pitches, following an opener could be beneficial, as he could be in line for a win without needing to last five innings.

  • Zack Littell SP | WAS

    Giants' Zack Littell: Opening Wednesday

Littell will start Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Littell will make his first start of the season Wednesday, and he's unlikely to cover more than an inning or two since he has yet to complete two full frames in an appearance in 2020. Sam Long is expected to be promoted from Triple-A and is a likely candidate to follow as the bulk reliever.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Nails down 13th save

Jansen picked up a one-out scoreless save that included a strikeout against the Pirates on Tuesday.

After Nate Jones started to cough up a 5-1 deficit in the ninth by serving up a pair of home runs, Jansen was called upon to halt the Pirates' rally. He did so without a fight, sending his only batter down on strikes. The veteran right-hander has been solid this season, pitching to the tune of a 1.85 ERA and 1.03 WHIP while going 11-for-13 in save chances.

  • Cory Abbott RP | SEA

Cubs' Cory Abbott: Returns to Triple-A

Abbott was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Russell Dorsey of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The 25-year-old was called up over the weekend and allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk over 3.1 innings during his first taste of the majors. Alec Mills (back) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Adbert Alzolay RP | NYM

Cubs' Adbert Alzolay: Lands on injured list

Alzolay (finger) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old played catch Tuesday after leaving Monday's start with a blister on his right middle finger, and he'll require a stint on the injured list before making another start. Kohl Stewart was recalled in a corresponding move and is the likely candidate to fill Alzolay's spot in the rotation.

  • Adbert Alzolay RP | NYM

Cubs' Adbert Alzolay: Plays catch Tuesday

Alzolay (finger) played catch Tuesday, but his availability for his next turn through the rotation remains up in the air, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.

The 26-year-old is officially considered day-to-day, though it's encouraging that he was able to play catch so quickly after exiting Monday's start with a blister on his right middle finger. Alzolay tentatively lines up to start Saturday versus St. Louis, though he should be considered questionable to pitch until the team updates his status.
