  • Dakota Hudson SP | LAA

Cardinals' Dakota Hudson: Could return this season

Hudson (elbow) is attempting to return by the end of the year, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.

Hudson underwent Tommy John surgery in late September last year. The procedure carries a recovery timeline of at least 12 months but frequently takes around 15. The Cardinals haven't ruled out that Hudson could return this year, though it's unlikely he'd be built up for anything other than a relief role if he is indeed able to make it back by the end of the year.

  • Phillies' Enyel De Los Santos: Called up by Phillies

De Los Santos was recalled by the Phillies on Saturday.

De Los Santos made three appearances for the Phillies back in May, allowing four runs (three earned) in two innings. He'll likely be used in low-leverage spots for now. Rafael Marchan was optioned in a corresponding move.

  • Conner Menez RP | CHC

    Giants' Conner Menez: Starting nightcap

Menez will be the first pitcher on the mound for the Giants in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader against the Nationals, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.

Menez has been a starter throughout his minor-league career, but he's exclusively pitched out of the bullpen at the big-league level over the last two seasons. He's gone exactly two innings in each of his four appearances this season, so it's unlikely he pitches more than three in this one, especially as he'll be on just two days' rest after pitching Wednesday against the Rangers.

  • Daniel Hudson RP | LAD

Nationals' Daniel Hudson: No long-term concerns

Hudson is not concerned about any long-term issues with his elbow, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Hudson woke up Thursday morning with some swelling in his right elbow, but he's had two Tommy John surgeries in his past and said this issue didn't feel at all similar. An MRI confirmed Friday that he isn't dealing with anything worse than inflammation. Whether or not he's able to return after the minimum 10 days remains to be seen, but it doesn't sound like Hudson is in line for a long absence.

  • Trevor Megill RP | MIL

Cubs' Trevor Megill: Recalled from Triple-A

Megill was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Saturday.

He gave up five earned runs and walked six in five innings over five appearances at Triple-A. Megill should work in low-leverage situations.

  • Dennis Santana RP | PIT

Dodgers' Dennis Santana: Designated for assignment

Santana was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Saturday.

Santana threw 15 innings of relief for the Dodgers this season without much success, struggling to a 6.00 ERA and an 8:11 K:BB. He's still just 25 years old, which could convince another team to take a chance on him on waivers, but his career 6.42 ERA through 40.2 major-league innings isn't close to good.

  • Geoff Hartlieb RP | ATH

Pirates' Geoff Hartlieb: Back in majors

Hartlieb was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.

He takes the place of Trevor Cahill (calf) in the bullpen. Hartlieb had a 2.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and eight strikeouts in 6.2 innings over seven appearances at Triple-A.

  • Wil Crowe RP | PIT

Pirates' Wil Crowe: Recalled from Triple-A

Crowe was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.

He didn't fare well in 31 innings with the big club earlier this year (7.26 ERA, 1.77 WHIP), and he logged a single clean inning in his lone appearance at Triple-A on June 8. Typically a starter by trade, perhaps the Pirates are transitioning him into a relief role. However, Mitch Keller was optioned Saturday, so there is a vacant spot in the rotation.

  • Mitch White RP | MIL

Dodgers' Mitch White: Sent to minors

White was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.

White made five relief appearances during his latest stint with the Dodgers, allowing five runs (four earned) in six innings of work. Andy Burns was called up in a corresponding move.

  • Tony Santillan RP | CIN

Reds' Tony Santillan: Recalled by Reds

Santillan was recalled by the Reds on Saturday.

Santillan is expected to start Sunday against the Rockies for his big-league debut. He's gotten off to an excellent start for Triple-A Louisville, recording a 2.51 ERA and 34.4 percent strikeout rate through six starts.
