    Pirates' Max Kranick: Starting Sunday

Kranick will start Sunday against the Cardinals, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports.

Kranick will be making his major-league debut. He's been a starter in all seven of his appearances in the upper minors this season and has struck out 24.7 percent of opposing batters en route to a 4.37 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.

  • Geoff Hartlieb RP | ATH

Pirates' Geoff Hartlieb: Sent to minors

Hartlieb was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports.

Hartlieb made two appearances in his latest stint in the big leagues, allowing one run in 1.2 innings of work. Max Kranick was recalled in a corresponding move.

  • Justin Topa RP | MIN

    Brewers' Justin Topa: Throwing bullpens

Topa (elbow) has advanced to throwing bullpens, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Topa has been out all year since suffering a flexor strain in March. The Brewers still don't have an exact timetable for his return, but he's "not crazy far from game action," according to manager Craig Counsell.

  • Pierce Johnson RP | CIN

Padres' Pierce Johnson: Approaching bullpen session

Johnson (triceps) is slated to throw a bullpen session Saturday or Sunday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Johnson hit the 10-day injured list with right triceps inflammation last Saturday, but he appears to be on the mend given his scheduled throwing session this weekend. It is unclear if the right-hander will require a minor-league rehab stint before rejoining the Padres' bullpen.

  • Cionel Perez RP | NYM

Reds' Cionel Perez: Recalled by Cincinnati

Perez was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday.

Perez was sent to the minors June 2, and he posted a 0.96 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 12:1 K:BB in 9.1 innings across nine appearances during his most recent stint with the Triple-A club. He's made 18 relief appearances for the Reds this year and has fared considerably worse, posting an 8.31 ERA and 2.02 WHIP across 17.1 innings, but he'll return to the major-league bullpen after right-hander Tejay Antone (forearm) was placed on the 10-day injured list.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Slated to toss live BP

Pomeranz (shoulder/lat) is expected to throw a live batting-practice session Saturday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Pomeranz tossed to live hitters Wednesday for the first time since suffering a setback during a similar session May 25, and he appears to have come out without any issues given Saturday's scheduled live bullpen. The veteran reliever will likely go on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso once he's ready to return to game action, per Sanders. Pomeranz remains on track to rejoin the Padres in early July.

  • Tejay Antone RP | CIN

Reds' Tejay Antone: Heading back to IL

Antone is heading back to the IL with the same right forearm strain that previously sidelined him, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Antone had only been back for two games this week and wasn't effective in either outing. With Lucas Sims also out, the Reds will be pressed to find good relief work. The most likely closers in their bullpen are Brad Brach, Amir Garrett and Heath Hembree, but they don't have a designated closer by manager David Bell's design.

  • Tim Hill RP | NYY

Padres' Tim Hill: Secures 10th hold

Hill earned a hold Friday against Arizona, pitching a scoreless inning during which he gave up two hits and struck out one.

The lefty surrendered a pair of singles to lead off the frame but bounced back to retire the next three batters and keep the Diamondbacks off the scoreboard. Hill has hung a goose egg in 11 of his past 12 outings and has registered a 2.35 ERA and 1.17 WHIP overall this season. He hasn't picked up any saves or holds but does have four wins in relief while racking up a 36:11 K:BB across 30.2 frames.

  • Phillies' Enyel De Los Santos: Remains with major-league club

De Los Santos was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

De Los Santos served as the 27th man in Friday's doubleheader against the Mets, but he didn't appear out of the bullpen. He'll remain with the Phillies as part of the 26-man roster after outfielder Matt Vierling was sent down Saturday.

  • Max Kranick RP | WAS

Pirates' Max Kranick: Joining big-league club

Kranick was called up by the Pirates on Saturday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

Kranick projects as not much more than a back-end starter. In seven starts split across the two highest levels of the minors this season, he owns a 4.37 ERA while striking out 24.7 percent of opposing batters and walking 6.2 percent. The Pirates haven't officially named their starter for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, so it's possible he'll get the nod.
