Duane Underwood RP | NYY
Pirates' Duane Underwood: Heading to injured list
Underwood (hamstring) landed on the 10-day injured list Friday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Underwood (hamstring) left Thursday's season opener against the Cardinals with hamstring discomfort, an issue evidently serious enough to keep him out for at least 10 days. Roansy Contreras was called up to take his place on the roster.

Victor Gonzalez RP | LAA
Dodgers' Victor Gonzalez: Improving but won't return soon
Gonzalez's elbow soreness has gone away, but he's still expected to miss another 3-4 weeks, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Gonzalez landed on the 10-day injured list Thursday and will apparently miss more than the minimum, though he's at least trending in the right direction. There's no guarantee he returns to the big-league roster once healthy, as he spent the end of last season in the minors.

Angel Perdomo RP | LAA
Brewers' Angel Perdomo: Healthy at Triple-A
Perdomo (back) has made two appearances this season for Triple-A Nashville, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings and allowing no hits and three walks while striking out four.
Perdomo finished the 2021 season on the Brewers' 60-day injured list due to a back strain, but he's received a clean bill of health ahead of the 2022 campaign. Despite not winning a spot in Milwaukee's Opening Day bullpen, Perdomo retains a spot on the 40-man roster, so he'll be a candidate for a promotion if the Brewers should require an extra bullpen arm at any point.

Nick Martinez SP | TB
Padres' Nick Martinez: Nabs rotation spot
Martinez is listed as the Padres' starting pitcher for Monday's series opener in San Francisco.
Mike Clevinger's (knee) placement on the injured list coupled with Thursday's trade that sent Chris Paddack to Minnesota cleared the way for Nick Martinez to open the season as the Padres' No. 5 starter. Even before Paddack was dealt, Martinez appeared in good shape to win a rotation spot after San Diego signed him to a four-year, $25.5 million deal in the offseason. The 31-year-old owns a 4.77 ERA across 415.1 career innings in the majors from 2014 through 2017, but he looked like a different pitcher while spending the subsequent four seasons in Japan. During his time overseas, the right-hander gained a few ticks of velocity on his fastball, showed an improved four-pitch mix and made major gains in limiting walks. Of course, Martinez will be facing higher-caliber competition in his return to MLB than he matched up against in Nippon Professional Baseball, but he at least appears better equipped to find more success this time around.

Robert Suarez RP | ATL
Padres' Robert Suarez: Tagged with relief loss
Suarez (0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief Thursday against Arizona after allowing three runs on zero hits, two walks and a hit-by-pitch without recording an out.
Suarez's command was all over the place, as he tossed just four of his 15 pitches for strikes. The 31-year-old right-hander was making his MLB debut after emerging as a closer in Japan the last two years, but the Padres' addition of Taylor Rogers likely relegates Suarez to a setup or middle-relief role to begin the season.

Mason Thompson RP | TEX
Nationals' Mason Thompson: Three whiffs in first outing
Thompson walked one batter, hit another with a pitch and struck out three in a scoreless inning during Thursday's loss to the Mets.
Entering the game in the ninth inning with the Nationals down 5-1, Thompson showed both how dominant he can be -- he topped out at 97 mph with his power sinker while also mixing in a slider -- and how much he needs to work on his control to become a reliable high-leverage reliever. The Nats' bullpen has no one in established roles to begin the year, however, so if Thompson can tighten things up just a little, he could become a dark-horse candidate for saves in 2022.

Tony Santillan RP | CIN
Reds' Tony Santillan: Notches save Thursday
Santillan earned a save against Atlanta on Thursday, pitching a perfect ninth inning during which he struck out two batters.
The Reds' closer situation was murky enough heading into the regular season, and it becomes even more complicated with Santillan -- who wasn't generally considered among the prime candidates for ninth-inning duties -- picking up the team's first save. Manager David Bell indicated in late March that the right-hander was even being considered for a spot in the starting rotation, so the organization obviously values his versatility. It seems unlikely that Santillan would be handed full-time closer duties after one successful outing, though he handled the role with aplomb Thursday, throwing 11 of 15 pitches for strikes and retiring the side in order. There will no doubt be plenty of Thursday night FAAB bids placed on the hurler based on his Opening Day performance, but managers would be wise to reign in expectations for what remains an unsettled bullpen situation in Cincinnati.

Yennsy Diaz RP | NYM
Mets' Yennsy Diaz: Loses roster spot
Diaz was designated for assignment Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Diaz made 20 appearances out of the bullpen for the Mets last season, though he was late to spring training due to visa issues. As a result, he failed to make the Opening Day roster. Adonis Medina was added to the 40-man roster in the corresponding move.
-
Adonis Medina RP | SEA
Mets' Adonis Medina: Acquired by Mets
Medina was traded by the Pirates to the Mets on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Medina was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Wednesday, and he'll now join his third team since December. Medina was once a well-regarded prospect while in Philadelphia's organization, though he has struggled to produce in the upper levels of the minor leagues. He will start the 2022 season with Triple-A Syracuse.

David Robertson RP | PHI
Cubs' David Robertson: Picks up first save
Robertson worked around a hit to pitch a scoreless inning and earn the save in Thursday's win over the Brewers.
It was Robertson, not Rowan Wick, who got the first save opportunity of 2022 for the Cubs. Wick, who entered camp as the presumptive closer, was called on in the eighth inning. Manager David Ross may mix and match at the end of the game, so this will be a situation worth monitoring. The 36-year-old Robertson would obviously see a big spike in fantasy value if he keeps seeing regular save opportunities.
