Bryan Hoeing RP | SD
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Gets another turn through rotation
Hoeing is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Cubs at loanDepot Park.
Despite getting tagged for four earned runs on six hits and two walks across 3.2 innings against Atlanta in his 2023 MLB debut Tuesday, Hoeing will wind up getting a second start this weekend as a replacement in the rotation for Trevor Rogers (biceps). Hoeing may need a better showing against the Cubs to ensure he sticks in the rotation on a more permanent basis, as Miami could turn to long reliever Devin Smeltzer for starts if Hoeing can't get the job done.

Jordan Hicks RP | CHW
Cardinals' Jordan Hicks: Handed second loss
Hicks (0-2) allowed an unearned run on two hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 1.2 innings, and he took the loss Wednesday versus the Giants.
A two-out fielding error by Lars Nootbaar and a subsequent wild pitch from Hicks allowed the Giants' Mitch Haniger to score the go-ahead run. Hicks has been used in low-leverage situations for a little over a week, but he entered a tie game on a three-inning scoreless streak and couldn't keep the score even. The hard-throwing righty trimmed his ERA to a bloated 6.97, and he has an awful 2.32 WHIP and a 17:9 K:BB through 10.1 innings. He's issued just one walk over his last five outings, but he's also uncorked two wild pitches in that span and still has some work to do to get his control in line.

Nick Martinez SP | TB
Padres' Nick Martinez: Earns win in long relief
Martinez (2-1) earned the win over Chicago on Wednesday, allowing three hits and striking out two batters over three scoreless frames.
Martinez came on in relief of Michael Wacha in the sixth inning and provided a bridge to closer Josh Hader, keeping Chicago off the board over three frames. Martinez tossed 34 of 50 pitches for a strike in his first appearance out of the bullpen this season. The right-hander began the campaign as a starter but was moved to a relief role when Joe Musgrove came off the IL on April 22.

Raisel Iglesias RP | ATL
Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Starting rehab assignment
Iglesias (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.
Iglesias got a late start to the season due to inflammation in his pitching shoulder, but he's been throwing off the mound for a while now with no issues. It's not clear how many rehab appearances he'll be asked to make, but it seems reasonable to think he'll be reinstated within a week or so. Iglesias will regain the closer job from A.J. Minter eventually, but it's possible Atlanta will ease him back into the role once activated.

Yency Almonte RP | LAD
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Has another rough outing
Almonte allowed four runs on two hits and one walk over 1.1 innings against the Pirates on Wednesday.
Almonte entered the game with the Dodgers in a jam in the sixth inning, inheriting a two-on, one-out situation. He escaped by inducing a double play, but the right-hander was less effective in the following frame. He allowed four hitters to reach base, and all four came around to score, though two crossed the plate after Almonte departed. The veteran reliever has been charged with multiple runs in three of his 12 outings this season, including in two of his past three trips to the mound.

Andrew Chafin RP | CIN
Diamondbacks' Andrew Chafin: Notches fourth save
Chafin walked one and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his fourth save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Royals.
The lefty continued his impressive start to the season, as Chafin has been scored upon in only one of his first 12 appearances so far. That one outing did result in his only blown save in five chances, but he still appears to be solidifying his hold on the closer role for Arizona, posting a 2.61 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB through 10.1 innings.

Scott McGough RP | ATH
Diamondbacks' Scott McGough: Logs fifth hold
McGough retired both batters faced to earn a hold in Wednesday's 2-0 win over Kansas City.
McGough stranded an inherited runner from starter Zac Gallen to pick up his fifth hold and second in as many outings. After he was given opportunities to close games, McGough appears to be settling in as part of the setup crew along with Miguel Castro as the bridge to closer Andrew Chafin. McGough is chipping away at a high ERA that stood at 9.64 after a blown save two weeks ago. Since then, he's allowed one run on two hits while striking out six over seven innings.

Camilo Doval RP | NYY
Giants' Camilo Doval: Induces double play to earn save
Doval picked up a save against the Cardinals on Wednesday, walking one batter and keeping St. Louis off the scoreboard over two-thirds of an inning.
It didn't look like Doval would be needed with San Francisco up 7-2 entering the ninth, but Sean Hjelle gave up two walks and a double to yield a run and allow the tying run to get to the on-deck circle with just one out. Doval was summoned from the bullpen and walked Lars Nootbaar to begin his outing, but he escaped the jam by getting Paul Goldschmidt to bounce into a game-ending double play. Doval's performance earned him his third save of the campaign, two of which have come over his past three appearances.

Josh Hader RP | HOU
Padres' Josh Hader: Records ninth save
Hader earned a save against the Cubs on Wednesday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one batter over one scoreless inning.
Hader entered the contest in the ninth inning with San Diego up by two runs. He registered two outs before Chicago made things interesting with a double and a walk to bring the winning run to the plate. However, Hader was able to get Nico Hoerner to foul out to end the threat. The veteran closer has been lights-out this season, allowing just one earned run over 12 appearances covering 12 innings. He's also notched a 17:5 K:BB and leads MLB with nine saves.

A.J. Minter RP | NYM
Braves' A.J. Minter: Lands fifth save
Minter picked up the save Wednesday against the Marlins. He struck out two over one perfect inning.
Minter bounced back from a poor last two appearances, posting a clean inning to secure the win for Atlanta while fanning two. Prior to Wednesday's outing, Minter had allowed five runs in two innings and took the loss in each contest. The 29-year-old has converted five of seven save chances in the absence of Raisel Iglesias (shoulder).
