  • Cubs' Hunter Harvey: Rehab progressing slowly

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Wednesday that Harvey's (triceps/shoulder) rehab hasn't come along as hoped, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Harvey has been out nearly all season, first due to right triceps inflammation and then because of a stress reaction in his triceps/shoulder area. The reliever has been throwing off a mound this month, but he doesn't look close to facing hitters or going out on a rehab assignment.

  • Cubs' Hunter Harvey: Completes side session

Harvey (triceps/shoulder) threw a bullpen session Saturday at the Cubs' facility in Arizona, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Harvey has been out nearly all season while recovering from a stress reaction near his right triceps and shoulder, making just four appearances for the Cubs before hitting the injured list April 12. He appears likely to remain in Arizona for at least another week or two to build up the volume and intensity of his throwing before the Cubs map out a minor-league rehab assignment for him. Once he eventually returns from the 60-day IL, Harvey could be ticketed for a middle-relief role.

  • Cubs' Hunter Harvey: Throwing, but far away from return

Manager Craig Counsell said July 8 that Harvey (triceps/shoulder) has resumed a throwing program at the Cubs' facility in Arizona, but the right-hander remains without a clear timeline for a return from the 60-day injured list, MLB.com reports. Harvey initially landed on the injured list April 12 due to right triceps inflammation, then suffered a setback in early May, when he was diagnosed with a stress reaction near his triceps and shoulder. After an extended shutdown period, the 31-year-old is beginning to ramp up again, but the Cubs are likely to ease him along cautiously in his throwing program. He's likely at least a month away from rejoining the Chicago bullpen, and a clearer target date probably won't be available until he heads out on a rehab assignment.

  • Cubs' Hunter Harvey: Transferred to 60-day IL

The Cubs moved Harvey (triceps) from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL on Sunday. Harvey landed on the injured list with right triceps inflammation April 12. He began a throwing program in late April and had progressed to throwing off a mound, but he was then diagnosed with a stress reaction in the triceps. He isn't expected to resume throwing until at least early June, so the transfer to the 60-day IL doesn't affect his return timeline.

  • Cubs' Hunter Harvey: Resuming throwing program

Harvey (triceps) will restart his throwing program Friday, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports. Harvey has been on the 15-day injured list since April 12 due to triceps inflammation, but he hadn't pitched for a week prior to the transaction. With the right-hander restarting his throwing program Friday, it probably pushes his return past the end of April.

  • Cubs' Hunter Harvey: Out with triceps inflammation

The Cubs placed Harvey on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right triceps inflammation, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. It's unclear when the issue cropped up for Harvey, but he hasn't pitched since firing a scoreless inning Wednesday in Tampa Bay. He'll be eligible to return in late April, but there's no indication yet of the severity of the injury.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Throws light bullpen

Harvey (groin) completed a light bullpen session Wednesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. Harvey took another step forward in his recovery from the Grade 2 right adductor strain that has sidelined him since Aug. 11. He threw a short bullpen session of about 15 to 20 pitches, and while it wasn't a full workload, simply getting back on the mound is an encouraging sign in the right-hander's quest to return before season's end. Harvey's 2025 season has been marred by injuries, but he's delivered when available by tossing 12 scoreless appearances.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Diagnosed with Grade 2 strain

Harvey was diagnosed with a Grade 2 adductor strain and received an injection Tuesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. Manager Matt Quatraro said Tuesday that Harvey is expected to miss a significant amount of time, but the team still believes he could pitch again before the end of the season. A clearer timeline for his return will likely emerge whenever he's cleared to begin a throwing program.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Returns from IL

The Royals activated Harvey (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Friday. Harvey hasn't pitched in the big leagues since April 7 due to a shoulder strain, but he appeared in three rehab games and is ready to return to the Royals' bullpen. Harvey was off to a hot start this season, registering a 0.00 ERA, 0.19 WHIP and 7:0 K:BB across 5.1 innings prior to his injury. Harvey should slot back in as a top setup man for Kansas City.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Continuing mound work

Harvey (shoulder) resumed throwing off a mound at the end of June, MLB.com reports. Working his way back from a right teres major strain, Harvey is continuing with his throwing progression at the Royals' spring training complex in Arizona. A rehab assignment would seem to be around the corner. Harvey has been shelved since mid-April.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Shifts to 60-day IL

The Royals transferred Harvey (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Thursday. Harvey was initially deactivated April 11 due a right teres major strain and hasn't yet been cleared to resume a minor-league rehab assignment, so the move to the 60-day IL won't affect his timeline for a return to the Kansas City bullpen. According to MLB.com, Harvey is still dealing with symptoms of the injury, but he's continued to play catch every other day and is expected to begin a normal throwing progression in the near future.

Harvey (shoulder) is scheduled for a bullpen session Thursday with optimism that he can begin a rehab assignment next week, MLB.com reports. Harvey landed on the 15-day injured list April 11 due to a right teres major strain. He's progressed enough in his recovery that he started playing catch, and he now looks set to take the next step in his throwing program.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Set for re-evaluation

Harvey (shoulder) will be re-evaluated Tuesday with the hope of getting cleared to begin throwing, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. Harvey was diagnosed with a Grade 1 right teres major strain April 11 after he felt it the day prior while warming up. The injury isn't believed to be a serious concern, but the right-hander will likely need a bit of time to build his arm back up even if he restarts his throwing program next week.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Placed on injured list

The Royals placed Harvey (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Friday. Harvey has been diagnosed with a right teres major strain, and the move is retroactive to April 8. Harvey last pitched Monday against the Twins. He's appeared in six games this season and has yet to allow an earned run across 5.1 innings while posting a 7:0 K:BB. John Schreiber and Lucas Erceg will handle setup duties ahead of Carlos Estevez while Harvey is sidelined.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Records second hold

Harvey struck out the only batter he faced Sunday against the Orioles in the seventh inning to earn his second hold. He's thrown 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts and no walks this season. Harvey is working as a setup man ahead of Lucas Erceg and Carlos Estevez and should pile up holds again after racking up 28 holds (ninth in the majors) in 2024. Harvey is fully healthy after a back injury ended his season prematurely last August.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Healthy after back injury

Harvey threw a scoreless inning in his spring debut Tuesday and says he's fully healthy after a back injury prevented him from pitching in the postseason, the Kansas City Star reports. "Last year was tough," Harvey said. "It didn't feel good to rotate, which is kind of the main thing we need to be able to do. We just couldn't get it to ever calm down." Harvey met with specialists is in the offseason and the back issue was determined just to be tightness. He delayed his normal offseason throwing program by a month to aid his recovery and appears to be back to regular strength. Harvey will be a key setup man ahead of Lucas Erceg and Carlos Estevez this season, assuming he can stay healthy.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Throws bullpen session

Harvey (back) threw a bullpen session Sunday, MLB.com reports. Harvey was shut down for a bit after experiencing a setback with his back injury, but he's made enough progress to resume throwing. The reliever has missed nearly a month of action and might require a rehab appearance or two before rejoining the Royals bullpen.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Suffers setback

Harvey (back) suffered a setback in his recovery Tuesday and will be shut down from all activity for the next 2-to-3 days, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. Harvey received a cortisone injection Tuesday to help his back recover, and manager Matt Quatraro estimates that the 29-year-old reliever will be back to playing catch before the end of the week. He had been looking to rejoin the Royals' bullpen before the end of the month, though his setback will likely push his return into September.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Close to mound work

Harvey (back) is progressing well and hopes to be clear to throw a bullpen session in the coming days, Jaylon Thompson of the Kansas City Star reports. Harvey hasn't made an appearance since Aug. 4 because of mid-back tightness, an injury that he initially suffered in late July. The right-handed reliever looks to be trending in the right direction and should have a shot to return before the end of the month if all goes well. Harvey is part of the late-inning mix in Kansas City.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Collects 28th hold

Harvey recorded his 28th hold of the season in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the White Sox, giving up a run on two hits over one inning while striking out two. The right-hander left Sunday's game due to lower-back spasms, but Harvey was back in action a couple days later. The Royals added another high-leverage arm at the trade deadline in Lucas Erceg, which likely puts another reliever between Harvey and save chances, but he should remain in a setup role.
