  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Rehabbing in Cincinnati

Barnhart (oblique) is currently rehabbing in Cincinnati, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Barnhart has been on the shelf since the end of June with a right oblique strain. The expectation is that the backstop won't be ready to return until August.

  • Brewers' Yasmani Grandal: Day off Wednesday

Grandal is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Braves.

Grandal, who is 1-for-13 (.077) in five games since the All-Star break, will sit for Wednesday's matinee contest after catching all nine innings during Tuesday's 13-1 win. Manny Pina is starting behind the dish and hitting sixth in place of Grandal.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Pirates' Elias Diaz: Out of Wednesday's lineup

Diaz is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Cardinals.

Diaz is in the midst of an 0-for-13 slump. Jacob Stallings will start behind the dish and bat eighth.

  • Curt Casali C | ATL

Reds' Curt Casali: Remains out Wednesday

Casali (knee) is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs.

Casali will stick on the bench for a second straight game as he continues to deal with some right knee soreness. Juan Graterol will start behind the dish and bat eighth in his place Wednesday.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: To resume activities Friday

Contreras (foot) will resume baseball activities Friday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Contreras landed on the 10-day injured list with a strained right foot Monday, but it doesn't sound as though he's in line for a long absence. The Cubs acquired Martin Maldonado to split time with Victor Caratini while Contreras remains unavailable.

  • Chad Wallach C | ATH

Marlins' Chad Wallach: Still has concussion symptoms

Wallach (concussion) paused his rehab assignment Tuesday due to eye fatigue, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.

Wallach has been out with a concussion since late May and is evidently still dealing with some of the symptoms. It's unclear when he's expected to return to the diamond.

  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Back from bereavement list

Hedges (personal) was reinstated from the bereavement list Tuesday, Bill Center of MLB.com reports.

Hedges missed three games after going on the bereavement list Friday. Austin Allen was sent back to Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move.

  • Curt Casali C | ATL

Reds' Curt Casali: Absent from Tuesday's lineup

Casali (knee) isn't starting Tuesday's game against the Cubs.

Casali left Monday night's contest due to soreness in his right knee, and the Reds have elected to hold him out Tuesday, likely as a precaution. Kyle Farmer will handle the catching duties and hit eighth in Casali's place.

  • Alex Jackson C | MIN

Braves' Alex Jackson: Continues power surge

Jackson went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI for Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

Monday's two-homer game marked the fourth time Jackson has accomplished the feat, and he now has a career-high 20 home runs this season, including eight over the past 12 games. The catcher recorded 20 RBI during those 12 games to bring his total to 47 at the Triple-A level in 2019. However, he's a bit of a one-trick pony, as he carries a slash line of .239/.325/.561 and a 17:73 B:KK through 58 games this year with Gwinnett. It's possible Jackson could get called up when rosters expand or if Brian McCann or Tyler Flowers goes down with an injury, but it's unlikely that he sees regular playing time at the major-league level in the immediate future

  • Curt Casali C | ATL

Reds' Curt Casali: Exits with knee issue

Casali left Monday's game against the Cubs due to right knee soreness, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Casali doesn't believe the injury is serious, and after the contest, he stated that he could've remained in the game if he club needed him to. He'll be considered day-to-day moving forward.
