  • Nick Maton DH | CHW

    Nick Maton: Becomes free agent

Maton filed for free agency Saturday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Maton spent most of the 2024 campaign at the Triple-A level, posting a .258/.363/.471 slash line with 16 home runs, 56 RBI, 44 runs and one stolen base over 344 plate appearances. He got into five major-league games with the Orioles and went 0-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts. Maton doesn't offer much in the way of power or speed, but he provides versatility, as he can play multiple positions in both the infield and outfield.

  • Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Starting at first base in Game 1

Cabrera is starting at first base and batting eighth in Saturday's Game 1 of the ALDS against Kansas City.

Cabrera played primarily at third base during the regular season but made five starts at first. Jazz Chisholm is locked into the starting role at the hot corner for the postseason, so Cabrera is needed much more at first base with Anthony Rizzo left off the roster due to a pair of fractured fingers. Ben Rice is also on the team's ALDS roster as an option at first base.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Joins taxi squad

Baty is with the Mets in Milwaukee as part of their taxi squad, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Jesse Winker is dealing with a back issue, which has his status for the National League Wild Card series in question. If Winker is unable to go, it sounds like Baty would be the choice to replace him on the roster. Baty put up a .633 OPS in 50 games during the regular season with the Mets but had a .925 OPS in his final 14 contests at Triple-A Syracuse.

  • Mark Vientos DH | NYM

Mets' Mark Vientos: Not in lineup for second game

Vientos is absent from the lineup for the second game of Monday's doubleheader against Atlanta, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Vientos will get a breather for the second game after the Mets wrapped up a playoff spot with their win in the first contest. Jose Iglesias will shift over to third base while Eddy Alvarez gets a start at second base.

  • Bryan Ramos 3B | CHW

White Sox's Bryan Ramos: Shows power to close season

Ramos went 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored Sunday against the Tigers.

Ramos started 14 games in September after being recalled Sept. 4. He showed some decent pop by collecting three homers and five total extra-base hits in 59 plate appearances. He hit just .208, but a 23.7 percent strikeout rate isn't all that concerning. Ramos should be in position to compete for the starting third base job in 2025.

  • Darell Hernaiz SS | ATH

Athletics' Darell Hernaiz: Contributes as in-game replacement

Hernaiz entered Sunday's loss to the Mariners as a defensive replacement at third base in the seventh inning and went 1-for-1 with a two-run double.

Hernaiz made things interesting during his only plate appearance, doubling home Seth Brown and Zack Gelof in the ninth inning to slice a four-run deficit in half. The young infielder played only 48 games at the major-league level during his rookie 2024 campaign, with a near two-month stay on the injured list due to an ankle issue playing a large part. Hernaiz finished with just a .192 average and .503 OPS across 135 plate appearances; however, the combination of his adequate 8.1 percent walk rate and 20.0 percent strikeout rate in his first brush with big-league arms and his career .294/.358/.424 minor-league slash line imply he could certainly take a notable step forward if he remains healthy in 2025.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | SEA

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Goes yard in regular-season finale

Suarez went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI single and an additional run scored during Sunday's 11-2 win over San Diego.

Suarez capped off the regular season with an excellent performance, lifting a solo homer -- just his second round tripper since hitting two Sept. 11 -- off Matt Waldron in the seventh inning for his 30th long ball of the year, the fifth time in his career that he's reached that mark. In 2024, Suarez is slashing .256/.319/.469 with 101 RBI and 90 runs.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | ATH

    Braves' Gio Urshela: Launches homer

Urshela went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's 4-2 loss to Kansas City.

Urshela provided Atlanta's lone extra-base hit Sunday, tagging Alec Marsh for a solo homer in the third inning. In 34 games with Atlanta, Urshela has slashed .264/.281/.432 with four home runs, 14 RBI and nine runs across 128 plate appearances.

  • Lenyn Sosa 2B | CHW

White Sox's Lenyn Sosa: Strong finish to season

Sosa went 3-for-4 with a walk, a home run, three RBI and three runs Sunday against the Tigers.

Sosa clubbed a three-run blast in the third inning, his eighth homer of the season. The three hits and three RBI matched his season highs. Over his final 14 games, Sosa posted eight multi-hit performances, going 20-for-49 (.408) with four homers, two doubles, 10 RBI and 10 runs.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | BOS

Astros' Alex Bregman: Sitting Sunday after delay

Bregman was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Guardians while it was in a rain delay, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

The game had been delayed for almost an hour when the team submitted a new lineup without Bregman, Jose Altuve or Kyle Tucker, as the Astros opted to not risk one of their veterans getting injured in subpar conditions ahead of the playoffs.
