  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Giants' Matt Chapman: Expects to miss more than minimum

Chapman (hand) said Tuesday that he expects to miss more than the minimum 10 days while on the injured list, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Chapman was placed on the IL on Tuesday after injuring his right hand while diving back into first base Sunday. The third baseman underwent an MRI on Monday, which showed sprained ligaments in his hand. Chapman said Tuesday that he hopes to return to action before the All-Star break, with the Giants' last game of the first half coming July 13. It's a tough break for the 32-year-old, who had recorded at least one hit in 10 of his last 11 games, batting .395 with three home runs, five RBI, seven runs scored and two stolen bases over that stretch.

  • Connor Norby 2B | MIA

Marlins' Connor Norby: Out of lineup Tuesday

Norby is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Pittsburgh.

It's a routine day off for Norby, who had started at third base in each of the Marlins' last five games. Javier Sanoja will be at the hot corner and bat ninth Tuesday.

  • Mark Vientos DH | NYM

Mets' Mark Vientos: Back to baseball activities

Vientos (hamstring) said Tuesday that he's back to jogging and hitting, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The 25-year-old landed on the injured list last week with a low-grade hamstring strain and was initially expected to return to baseball work after 10-to-14 days, but it appears he's a bit ahead of schedule in his rehab work. Vientos could be looking at a shorter absence than first anticipated, though at this point he's without an official timeline for his return.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Giants' Matt Chapman: Lands on injured list

The Giants placed Chapman on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to right hand inflammation, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Chapman had X-rays come back negative after suffering the hand injury Sunday against Atlanta, but the inflammation will still sideline him for at least the next week and a half. The veteran third baseman will be eligible to be reinstated June 19. Casey Schmitt is likely to step in at third base for San Francisco in the meantime.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Stays hot with three hits

Riley went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Monday's win over the Brewers.

The third baseman has a history of heating up with the weather, and Riley has reeled off four multi-hit performances over the last five games to fuel a .323/.364/.548 slash line over the last 15 contests. The 28-year-old also has a 3:17 BB:K over that stretch however, continuing a trend that has seen him post his worst plate-discipline rates on the season (6.3 percent walk rate, 27.4 percent strikeout rate) since his rookie campaign in 2019.

  • Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Begins hitting soft toss

Marte (oblique) began hitting from soft tosses in a batting cage Friday, MLB.com reports.

Marte is at the Reds' complex in Goodyear (Ariz.) working his way back from an oblique injury that landed him on the 10-day injured list in late April. The report doesn't give an estimated return date other that sometime in June. Presumably, Marte will go out on a rehab assignment before rejoining Cincinnati.

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

Phillies' Alec Bohm: Pair of knocks in win

Bohm went 2-for-5 in Monday's 4-3 extra-innings win over the Cubs.

Although Bohm saw his 10-game hitting streak come to an end on May 30, he's maintained healthy production in the past few weeks. Over his last 20 outings, the 28-year-old infielder is hitting. 305 (25-for-82) with three homers, three doubles, eight RBI and nine runs scored. Bohm has hit either third or fourth in Philadelphia's batting order nine times in his last 12 contests, and he should continue to bat in those positions while Bryce Harper (wrist) is on the injured list.

  • Kyle Karros 3B | COL

Rockies' Kyle Karros: Returns to Double-A lineup

Karros (undisclosed) has gone 3-for-15 with two RBI, four runs and one stolen base in six games since being activated from Double-A Hartford's 7-day injured list last Tuesday.

Karros is off to a slow start at the dish since returning from an unspecified injury, but he was firing on all cylinders prior to landing on the IL. The 22-year-old is hitting .312 with two home runs and five stolen bases in 28 games for Hartford on the season.

  • Eric Wagaman 1B | MIN

    Marlins' Eric Wagaman: Sitting Monday

Wagaman is not in the Marlins' starting lineup against the Pirates on Monday, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.

Wagaman will take a seat after going 0-for-9 with four strikeouts over his last two games. Liam Hicks will start at first base while Heriberto Hernandez serves as the designated hitter and bat ninth.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Remains hot with homer Sunday

Machado went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a 1-0 win against the Brewers on Sunday.

Machado accounted for the only run by either team with his 425-foot solo blast in the seventh inning. The star third baseman has found his power stroke of late, clubbing three homers over his past four games and seven across his past 16 contests. Machado is also in the midst of a six-game hitting streak during which he's posted a 1.352 OPS with six RBI.
