Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI
Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Homers in extra-innings win
Arenado went 2-for-6 with a two-run home run and a double in Wednesday's extra-innings victory over the Reds.
Arenado launched a two-run blast off Mike Minor in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 2-2. He later added a double in his next at-bat in the sixth frame. The long ball was his 36th of the year and third in his last seven games. The third baseman has now recorded at least one hit in 13 of his last 15 games, batting .377 with three homers, eight doubles, 16 RBI, six runs and a stolen base over that stretch.

Brett Baty 3B | NYM
Mets' Brett Baty: Suffers torn UCL in thumb
Baty will undergo surgery to repair a torn UCL in his right thumb Thursday and was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 29.
The 22-year-old sat out the past couple days after suffering the injury against the Rockies over the weekend, and he may now be sidelined for the rest of the regular season. A standard recovery timeline for this type of procedure is about five weeks, so if all goes well in his recovery, Baty could be ready for game action early in the playoffs.

Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA
Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Takes seat Wednesday
Madrigal isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
Madrigal started the last five games and hit .300 with a double, a run and two walks across that span. Zach McKinstry will take over at second base and lead off Wednesday.

Brett Baty 3B | NYM
Mets' Brett Baty: Not starting Wednesday
Baty (thumb) isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Baty was unavailable for Tuesday's 4-3 loss due to a right thumb injury, and he'll remain out of the lineup a day later. According to Tim Britton of The Athletic, Baty received some imaging for his thumb, and while the Mets are satisfied enough with his ability to play defense or pinch run, it's yet clear if he can comfortably swing a bat. Eduardo Escobar will start at the hot corner and bat eighth in Baty's stead Wednesday.

Evan Longoria 3B | ARI
Giants' Evan Longoria: Resting Wednesday
Longoria isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Padres, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Longoria is out of the lineup for the third time in the last five games after he went 2-for-8 with a double and a run over his last two matchups. Wilmer Flores will start at the hot corner and bat third.

Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI
Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Sitting for afternoon game
Castro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
Though Castro doesn't have a handle on a full-time gig at any position, he managed to stick in the lineup for 15 of the Pirates' previous 16 games while moving between second base and third base, with his only absence during that span coming while he served a suspension. Considering that Castro has slashed .318/.375/.591 with eight extra-base hits and two stolen bases since his promotion from Triple-A Indianapolis earlier this month, he looks poised to stick in a quasi-everyday role while his bat remains hot. He's likely just getting routine maintenance as the Pirates conclude their series in Milwaukee with a day game after a night game

Jace Peterson SS | ARI
Brewers' Jace Peterson: Exits starting nine
Peterson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Though he's on the bench for the series finale against Pirates right-hander Zach Thompson, Peterson started against right-handed pitchers in each of the past three contests and went 3-for-8 with a run scored. At least for the time being, Peterson may have overtaken Luis Urias as the Brewers' preferred third baseman with the latter slashing .153/.287/.292 in August. Urias will get a chance to try and right the ship Wednesday while Peterson rests.

Evan Longoria 3B | ARI
Giants' Evan Longoria: Goes 1-for-5 in return
Longoria (hamstring) went 1-for-5 in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Padres.
Longoria returned after a one-game absence due to hamstring tightness. The third baseman served as the designated hitter Tuesday, which could continue in the near term in an effort to avoid aggravation of the injury that has bothered him multiple times this year. He's slashing .253/.330/.480 with 12 home runs, 28 RBI, 29 runs scored and nine doubles through 224 plate appearances.

Brett Baty 3B | NYM
Mets' Brett Baty: Managing thumb issue
Baty was unavailable during Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers due to a thumb injury, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
The 22-year-old suffered the injury over the weekend against the Rockies and was held out of the lineup Tuesday, and he apparently wasn't available as a pinch hitter. Baty should be considered day-to-day heading into Wednesday's matchup with Los Angeles.

Evan Longoria 3B | ARI
Giants' Evan Longoria: Returning to lineup Tuesday
Longoria (hamstring) will serve as the designated hitter Tuesday against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Longoria sat out Monday's contest after suffering a mild hamstring injury during Sunday's matchup with Minnesota, but he'll rejoin the starting nine after missing only one game. The 36-year-old has a .918 OPS through 16 games in August, though he's 1-for-11 with a double, a run and six strikeouts over his past four appearances.
