Matt Reynolds 3B | CIN
Reds' Matt Reynolds: Nearing rehab assignment
Reds manager David Bell said Tuesday that Reynolds (hip) will begin a rehab assignment soon, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Bell didn't specify whether Reynolds will head to the minors later this week or at some point next week, but the veteran utility man at least looks to be progressing from the left hip injury that landed him on the 10-day injured list Aug. 23. Whenever he makes his way back from the IL, Reynolds is expected to fill a bench role for the Reds, with most of his opportunities to start likely coming against left-handed pitching.

Emmanuel Rivera 3B | BAL
Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Resting Tuesday
Rivera is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies.
Rivera has been on a nice run at the plate, but he will be held out Tuesday with the Diamondbacks facing a tough right-hander in Aaron Nola.

Kevin Newman 3B | LAA
Pirates' Kevin Newman: Catches breather Tuesday
Newman is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Brewers.
Newman tallied two hits in Monday's game, but he will take a seat Tuesday in favor of Rodolfo Castro, who homered twice and racked up five hits over his last three games.

Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY
Rockies' Ryan McMahon: On bench Tuesday
McMahon is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Atlanta, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
With lefty Max Fried on the hill for Atlanta, Rockies manager Bud Black is electing to give the lefty-hitting McMahon a day off. McMahon will cede his spot in the starting nine to Elehuris Montero, who is covering third base after he was on the bench for three of the previous four contests.

Brett Baty 3B | NYM
Mets' Brett Baty: Takes seat versus lefty
Baty is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.
Baty has cobbled together a four-game hitting streak to bring his average (.184) closer to the Mendoza Line, but the lefty-hitting rookie could still find himself on the bench regularly against left-handers like the Dodgers' Andrew Heaney until he first proves he can master right-handed pitching. The switch-hitting Eduardo Escobar will spell Baty at third base.

Ildemaro Vargas 3B | ARI
Nationals' Ildemaro Vargas: Settles in as everyday third baseman
Vargas will start at third base and bat seventh in Tuesday's game against the Athletics, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
With Washington recently releasing Maikel Franco and opting to deploy Cesar Hernandez as a utility player following Luis Garcia's activation from the injured list rather than breaking Hernandez in at third base, Vargas looks to have built some job security as the Nationals' primary option at the hot corner. He enters Tuesday's contest coming off a productive four-game stretch in which he went 5-for-13 with two home runs, a double and two walks to lift his OPS up to .790 for the season.

Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI
Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Smacks fifth homer
Castro went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Monday against the Brewers.
Castro continues to swing a hot bat, as four of his five home runs this season have come since he was recalled Aug. 9. He's also hit .317, with five RBI, four runs scored and two stolen bases in that span. Though Castro isn't the everyday starter at either second or third base, the Pirates have made room for him in the lineup and that is likely to remain the case so long as he continues to hit.

Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Held out of Monday's lineup
Hayes is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers.
Hayes is hitless in 10 career at-bats against Brewers starter Corbin Burnes, so he will get a breather with Burns on the bump Monday night. Rodolfo Castro will man the hot corner in Hayes' place.

Evan Longoria 3B | ARI
Giants' Evan Longoria: Absent Monday
Longoria (hamstring) isn't starting Monday's game against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Longoria suffered a right hamstring injury during Sunday's matchup against the Twins, and while the injury was later reported to be a mild one, he'll miss at least one game while on the mend. The third baseman will continue to be considered day-to-day until further notice.
