  • Jake Burger 1B | TEX

Marlins' Jake Burger: Exits with injury

Burger was removed from Wednesday's game against the Mets with an apparent injury, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Burger had to be taken out of the game after making an error throwing to the plate in the third inning. The Marlins will take a look at him and should provide more details shortly, but Burger seemed to be grabbing at his quad as he left the field. He should be viewed as day-to-day for now.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Takes seat Wednesday

Arenado is not in the lineup Wednesday versus the Brewers.

Juniel Querecuto will start at third base and bat eighth for the Cardinals after they were officially eliminated from postseason contention following Tuesday's loss to Milwaukee. Arenado is slashing just .181/.233/.205 over his last 90 plate appearances dating back to Aug. 25.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Back in lineup Wednesday

Baty (groin) is back in the lineup Wednesday at Miami.

Baty will start at third base and bat seventh versus the Marlins and right-hander Eury Perez after missing nearly a full week of action because of a mild left groin strain. Ronny Mauricio is covering second base for the Mets on Wednesday as Jeff McNeil patrols left field.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Returns to lineup

Machado (elbow) is in the designated hitter spot and batting fourth versus the Rockies on Wednesday in his return to action, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Machado has been out of the lineup a few times this month and has been limited to DH duty when he does play because of a nagging elbow issue which will likely require surgery eventually. He'll gut it out for this one, though.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Supplies only offense in rout

Hayes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 14-1 loss to the Cubs.

The third baseman spoiled Chicago's shutout bid by taking Javier Assad deep in the third inning. Hayes is wrapping up a big second-half breakout, and since coming off the IL in early August, he's slashing .309/.349/.562 through 40 games with nine of his 14 homers on the season -- a power pace supported by his 93rd percentile average exit velocity, 89th percentile hard-hit rate and career-best 13.1 degree launch angle and 39 percent flyball rate in 2023.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

    Giants' J.D. Davis: Sitting Tuesday

Davis isn't in the Giants' lineup Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

After going 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored Sunday against Colorado, Davis will get a breather for Tuesday's series opener with Arizona. Wilmer Flores will take over at third base and bat third while Davis rests.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Out of lineup Tuesday

Machado (elbow) is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Rockies.

Machado served as the Padres' designated hitter in Monday's series opener versus Colorado, but he has an elbow injury that will eventually require surgery and could be facing an early shutdown. Juan Soto will take a turn in the DH role Tuesday as Eguy Rosario covers third base.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Takes seat versus lefty

McMahon is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

Alan Trejo will start at third base and bat eighth as the Rockies take on ace left-hander Blake Snell. McMahon has enjoyed a productive season overall, but he is slashing just .190/.264/.310 in 174 plate appearances versus southpaws.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Placed on 10-day IL

Madrigal was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right hamstring strain, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Madrigal strained his hamstring in Saturday's loss to the Diamondbacks and will be sidelined until at least Sept. 27. Christopher Morel is covering third base Tuesday against the Pirates and the Cubs have also recalled Jared Young from Triple-A Iowa to provide some extra infield depth.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Sitting again Tuesday

Baty (groin) remains out of the lineup Tuesday at Miami.

The young third baseman hasn't appeared in a game for the Mets since last Wednesday due to a left groin strain. Ronny Mauricio will handle the hot corner and bat second Tuesday versus the Marlins and left-hander Braxton Garrett.
