  • Jared Triolo 3B | PIT

Pirates' Jared Triolo: Optioned to Indy

The Pirates optioned Triolo to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.

With Ji Hwan Bae (ankle) returning from the injured list Friday, Triolo will end up serving as Pittsburgh's roster casualty. The 25-year-old infielder has slashed .273/.350/.314 across 137 plate appearances since earning his first promotion to the majors in late June, and he could be a candidate to return once rosters expand in September.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Evan Longoria: Starts rehab assignment

Longoria (back) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Longoria went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks in his first game with Reno. The veteran third baseman has been out for all of August due to a back injury but appears to be close to activation.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Diamondbacks' Jace Peterson: Heads to bench against southpaw

Peterson is not in Thursday's lineup against the Padres.

With southpaw Rich Hill on the mound for San Diego, Peterson will open the game on the bench. Buddy Kennedy starts at the hot corner, batting fifth.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

Marlins' Jake Burger: Stays hot Wednesday

Burger went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 12-5 loss to the Astros.

Burger has now hit safely in eight straight games, going 14-for-32 (.438) in that span. He's only hit one homer since joining Miami at the trade deadline, but he's now batting .340 (18-for-53) with an .888 OPS through 14 contests with his new team. Overall, the 27-year-old Burger is slashing .233/.297/.522 with 26 homers, 60 RBI and 50 runs scored through 381 plate appearances between the Marlins and White Sox.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Smacks 20th homer

McMahon went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two RBI on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

McMahon has seen his strikeouts pile up of late, as he has a 34.5 percent punchout rate across his last 13 starts. He's hit only .167 in that span, though he did manage his 20th homer of the season Wednesday -- matching his power output from the 2022 campaign. While the rest of his stat line has remained fairly consistent, McMahon does have the chance to cross the 25-homer threshold for the first time in his career.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Goes deep in comeback win

Madrigal hit a pinch-hit solo home run in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the White Sox.

Madrigal pinch hit for Tucker Barnhart to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning, and the team was probably just hoping he'd reach base. However, the infielder managed only his second home run of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-1 as the Cubs mounted a late comeback. Despite the heroics, Madrigal's fantasy stock has taken a hit lately, with new acquisition Jeimer Candelario starting to see more time at third when Chicago uses Cody Bellinger at first. It's a crowded playing time situation that figures to leave Madrigal on the bench more often than not in the immediate future.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Losing work to Suzuki

Madrigal is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

On the bench for the fifth time in six games, Madrigal appears to have lost hold of his regular starting role at third base as part of the domino effect of Seiya Suzuki regaining a foothold in the Cubs' everyday lineup. With Suzuki settling back in as the Cubs' primary right fielder, Cody Bellinger has been seeing more time at first base, while Jeimer Candelario has been pushed across the diamond to replace Madrigal in the lineup.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Diamondbacks' Jace Peterson: Remains on bench versus lefty

Peterson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

The lefty-hitting Peterson will stay on the bench for a second straight game while the Rockies bring another southpaw (Austin Gomber) to the hill for the series finale. Buddy Kennedy will replace Peterson at third base.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Homers in four-hit game

Arenado went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Athletics.

The Cardinals raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, with Arenado's homer a major factor in that. He saw a 10-game hitting streak end in Monday's contest, but he's still hitting a sharp .365 with three homers over 12 games in August. The third baseman is slashing .289/.336/.516 with 25 long balls, 84 RBI, 57 runs scored and two stolen bases over 114 contests in a near-everyday role this season.

  • Jared Triolo 3B | PIT

Pirates' Jared Triolo: Swipes two bags Tuesday

Triolo went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Mets.

Getting the start at second base and batting eighth, the 25-year-old rookie swiped both his bags in the sixth inning off the battery of Jose Butto and Francisco Alvarez. Triolo has been fairly productive in August, batting .296 (8-for-27) with a homer and all three of his big-league steals, and the Pirates' plan in the absence of Oneil Cruz (ankle) and Ji Hwan Bae (ankle) appears to be to rotate the young trio of Triolo, Liover Peguero and Alika Williams through the two middle-infield spots.
