  • Blue Jays' Santiago Espinal: Takes live batting practice

    Espinal (hamstring) took live batting practice Friday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

    Espinal is working out at the Blue Jays' player development complex in Florida as he recovers from the right hamstring strain he suffered May 20 against the Orioles. He still has a lot of hurdles to clear, including agility drills and running, but the 28-year-old could feasibly be ready to return to Toronto's active roster in the early part of June.

    Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Available off bench

    Padres manager Bob Melvin said Kim (knee) is available off the bench Friday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

    Jake Cronenworth will start Friday in Kim's place, but Melvin added that Kim is expected to return to the lineup Saturday. The 27-year-old infielder is slashing .237/.316/.382 through 172 plate appearances this season.

  • Jose Caballero 2B | NYY

    Mariners' Jose Caballero: Sitting against righty

    Caballero is not in the lineup Friday versus the Pirates.

    Kolten Wong will start at second base and bat ninth with right-hander Mitch Keller on the mound for Pittsburgh. Caballero has slashed .300/.475/.467 in 40 plate appearances against lefties but just .258/.324/.387 in 37 plate appearances against righties.

  • Brice Turang 2B | MIL

    Brewers' Brice Turang: Out versus southpaw

    Turang isn't starting Friday against the Giants.

    Turang will take a seat Friday as the Giants roll out left-hander Alex Wood to begin the game. Owen Miller will move to second base in Turang's place, moving Brian Anderson in to third base and allowing Tyrone Taylor to start in right field while batting eighth.

    Giants' Thairo Estrada: Not starting Friday

    Estrada isn't in the Giants' lineup for Friday's game against Milwaukee, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

    Estrada is slashing .222/.222/.333 over the past week, so he will get a day off Friday to regroup. Brett Wisely will take over for him at second base and bat ninth.

    Marlins' Luis Arraez: Returns to lineup

    Arraez (leg) is starting at second base Friday against the Angels, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

    Left leg cramps kept Arraez out of the Marlins' lineup Thursday, but the 26-year-old infielder will return to his usual spot at second base after just one missed start. Arraez is currently enjoying the best statistical season of his career, slashing .371/.422/.465 through 187 plate appearances.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: On bench against lefty

    Massey isn't starting Friday against the Nationals.

    With southpaw Patrick Corbin slated to take the mound for Washington, the left-handed bat of Massey will begin Friday's contest in the dugout. Matt Duffy will take over as the Royals' second baseman and bat leadoff.

  • Ha-seong Kim SS | ATL

    Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Out of lineup Friday

    Kim (knee) isn't starting Friday against the Yankees.

    Kim had to be helped off the field Thursday after he fouled a ball off his left knee. Although his X-rays came back negative, the Padres won't rush him back into action. He'll be replaced at second base by Jake Cronenworth, allowing Brandon Dixon to start at first base and bat seventh.

  • Joseph Ortiz SS | MIL

    Orioles' Joey Ortiz: Optioned to Triple-A

    Ortiz was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

    Ortiz will return to Norfolk after he went 5-for-19 with a double, three runs scored and six strikeouts over eight games following his call-up May 14. Ramon Urias (hamstring) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday and will replace Ortiz on the major-league roster.

  • Alan Trejo SS | COL

    Rockies' Alan Trejo: Swipes third bag

    Trejo went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a steal in Thursday's victory over Miami.

    He got the Rockies on the board in the fourth inning, driving in Randal Grichuk with two outs. Trejo would later walk to lead off the seventh inning before swiping his third stolen base of the year. The 26-year-old infielder's gone just 2-for-19 over his last seven games while playing sparingly. He's now slashing .231/.260/.286 with 11 RBI and eight runs scored through 97 plate appearances this season.
