  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Takes seat Tuesday

Hoerner isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

Hoerner didn't start the second game of Monday's twin bill, and he'll remain on the bench Tuesday. Jason Kipnis will start at second base in his absence.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Sits for first time

Marte will hit the bench for the first time this season Tuesday against Oakland, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Marte has made excellent contact in recent games, hitting .387 over his last seven contests. Eduardo Escobar will slide to second base Tuesday, with Jake Lamb starting at third.

  • Mauricio Dubon SS | ATL

Giants' Mauricio Dubon: Heads to bench

Dubon is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Dubon's ability to play both middle infield spots as well as center field has kept him in the lineup on a regular basis even without a dedicated position. He's started a total of 17 games in the Giants' first 25 contests, but no more than seven at any one position. Donovan Solano and Brandon Crawford will be the middle infielders Tuesday, with Steven Duggar starting in center.

  • Luis Garcia 1B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Makes history with first homer

Garcia went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Monday's 7-6 loss to Atlanta.

When he took Touki Toussaint deep in the second inning, Garcia became the first player born in the 2000s to homer in a big-league game. He's now 3-for-13 to begin his MLB career with four RBI and four strikeouts, and Garcia will likely continue to see the bulk of the action at second base until Starlin Castro -- who, coincidentally, was the first player born in the 1990s to homer in the majors -- recovers from his wrist fracture.

  • Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez: Makes impact off bench

Hernandez went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Monday's 11-9 win over the Mariners.

Hernandez pinch hit for Matt Beaty in the sixth inning and he stayed in the game at second base. In his second at-bat, Hernandez cranked his second homer of the season to finish the Dodgers' five-run seventh inning. The 28-year-old has typically been used off the bench recently. He's hitting .250/.294/.422 with eight RBI and 12 runs scored across 68 plate appearances.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Sitting for Game 2

Hoerner isn't starting the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Hoerner went 0-for-2 at the dish in the first contest of the day. He's now 0-for-9 in his last three games, so perhaps a night off will allow him to reset. Jason Kipnis draws the start at second base for the nightcap.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Returns as designated hitter

McNeil (knee) is starting Monday against the Marlins.

McNeil appeared in Sunday's game as a pinch hitter, but he'll return to the starting lineup for the first time since suffering a bone bruise Thursday. The 28-year-old is slashing .288/.353/.356 with four doubles and seven RBI this season.

  • Luis Urias 2B | ATH

Brewers' Luis Urias: Second straight three-hit game

Urias went 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs in Sunday's victory over the Cubs.

Urias picked up a season-high three hits in Saturday's contest and matched that number a day later, raising his batting average on the season to .474 (9-for-19). Urias has not claimed an everyday role just yet, but he has started five of the seven games he has appeared in since making his season debut Aug. 10, and the Brewers will surely keep looking for ways to get his bat in the lineup.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Steals base in win

Marte went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Padres.

Marte failed to extend his RBI streak Sunday but did steal his first base in 22 games. He swiped 10 bags in 144 games during his breakout 2019 season. The hot-hitting second baseman is 11-for-26 with six RBI over the last six games. Marte is a fixture atop the order, batting either leadoff or second in every game.

  • Luis Guillorme 3B | HOU

Mets' Luis Guillorme: Building case for everyday role

Guillorme went 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Phillies.

The Mets have lost four of their last six games to drop five games below .500, but Guillorme has emerged as a bright spot during that time. He's started at second base in each of those contests, going a blistering 10-for-17 with a 5:3 BB:K, four RBI, one run and a stolen base. Robinson Cano (groin) was reinstated from the injured list Friday, but he'll likely serve as the Mets' primary designated hitter for the time being as the team aims to shield him from wear and tear in the field. Per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, manager Luis Rojas suggested prior to Sunday's game that the Mets would make a point to keep Guillorme in the lineup while he's wielding a hot bat, so expect the 25-year-old to continue seeing at least semi-regular action in the short term.
