Bryson Stott 2B | PHI
Phillies' Bryson Stott: Back to bench versus lefty
Stott is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.
The left-handed-hitting Stott made a rare start against a lefty Tuesday, but he will retreat back to the bench Thursday as the Mets send southpaw David Peterson to the bump. Weston Wilson is at second base for the Phillies in what will be just his fourth-ever start at the keystone at the big-league level.

Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Enters for injured teammate
Vargas entered Wednesday's game in seventh inning to play second base after Ketel Marte left with a foot injury. Vargas singled in his lone plate appearance.
Imaging on Marte's foot came back negative, and the Diamondbacks are hoping he'll be ready to go for the series in Minnesota that begins Friday. Vargas remains on hand if needed, as are Blaze Alexander and Tim Tawa.

Tim Tawa 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Tim Tawa: Slots in at first base
Tawa started at first base and went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 5-3 win over San Francisco.
Tawa helped Arizona build an early lead with a run-producing single in the second inning and then scored the team's final run in the sixth. He's made two straight starts -- Tawa started in center field against a left-hander Tuesday. Wednesday's start at first was just his 11th in the pros, and he made a nice pick on a throw to keep Luis Matos off the bases. With MLB.com reporting that Tyler Locklear (elbow) is expected to miss the rest of the season, Tawa (against lefties) and Ildemaro Vargas (righties) will likely share first base going forward. Tawa also gives manager Torey Lovullo a right-handed bat to use against southpaws.

Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Snaps out of slump vs. Nats
Edwards went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Nationals.
The 26-year-old infielder snapped out of a recent slump in a big way, launching his third homer of the season, a 342-foot shot in the eighth inning that just cleared the glove of right fielder Dylan Crews. It marked Edwards' first three-hit game since Aug. 8, when he was hitting .303 and in the thick of the batting title race -- though his average has since dipped to .282. Edwards had been given a rest in the previous series against Philadelphia, and Wednesday's effort was an encouraging sign that he may be regaining his form at the plate.

Over his last 15 outings, Hoerner is batting .333 with two home runs, seven doubles, seven RBI and three thefts to boost his OPS to .733 in 2025.

Ketel Marte 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Dealing with foot contusion
Marte was removed in the seventh inning of Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Giants due to a right foot contusion, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.
Marte was in noticeable discomfort after taking the field in the bottom of the seventh and exited the game with a trainer before the Giants came up to bat. The good news for the second baseman was that X-rays came back negative, and manager Torey Lovullo relayed after Wednesday's game that he believes Marte will be available for Friday's series opener against the Twins. If Marte needs more time to recover, Ildemaro Vargas would be a candidate to start at the keystone.

Padres' Jose Iglesias: X-rays return negative
Iglesias had X-rays on his left hand come back negative but is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The veteran infielder exited Tuesday's contest after being hit by a pitch, but it appears he's avoided a serious injury. Iglesias said he'll be available off the bench Wednesday and should be considered day-to-day.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Exits Wednesday's game
Marte left in the seventh inning of Wednesday's game against the Giants due to a lower-body injury, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.
Marte was visited by a trainer in the bottom of the seventh and was unable to continue in the contest. Ildemaro Vargas has taken over at second base following Marte's exit.
