Reds' Joey Votto: Pulled off rehab assignment

Votto (shoulder/biceps) has been pulled off his minor-league rehab assignment.

Votto hasn't suffered a setback, but his 20-day rehab window was running out and the Reds will bring him back to Cincinnati to continue ramping up with simulated workouts. The veteran first baseman was slashing just .184/.289/.316 with 21 strikeouts through 45 plate appearances at Triple-A Louisville.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Three hits in Friday's win

Cooper went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's win over Arizona.

After missing Wednesday's game against the Phillies with a minor leg injury, Cooper was back in the lineup Friday and hitting second as the DH, and he produced his third three-hit game of the season. The 32-year-old is batting .370 (17-for-46) through 12 contests with three homers and nine RBI, and if he can stay mostly healthy he could be headed for his best campaign yet -- Cooper's 119 games played in 2022 were a career high.

  • Matt Beaty 1B | KC

Giants' Matt Beaty: Recalled from Triple-A

Beaty was recalled Saturday from Triple-A Sacramento, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Beaty will provide some depth for the Giants after they lost Joc Pederson to right wrist inflammation. There's no apparent fantasy upside here, as Beaty doesn't have an immediate path to consistent playing time.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Belts two homers

Tellez went 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI during Friday's win over the Padres.

Tellez knocked a solo shot in the fifth inning and added a three-run shot in the sixth. After a brutal 4-for-28 (.143) start to the season, the lefty slugger has gone 5-for-14 (.357) with four homers over his last four games. He bumped his slash line to .214/.300/.595 with Friday's big performance.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Could return Saturday

Montero (thumb) could return to action Saturday against the Mariners, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

He is missing a third straight game with a sore thumb but has been doing full pregame on-field activities, so Montero's return is imminent. Alan Trejo is starting at third base Friday.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Remains out of lineup Friday

Montero (thumb) remains out of the lineup Friday at Seattle.

Montero suffered a right thumb injury on a slide into home plate Monday versus the Cardinals and hasn't played since. Alan Trejo will start at third base and bat eighth for the Rockies on Friday night against the Mariners.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Getting first day off Friday

Cronenworth is not in the lineup Friday against the Brewers.

It's the first day off of the season for Cronenworth, who went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Thursday's series opener versus Milwaukee and is slashing .196/.321/.326 through 57 plate appearances on the year. Brandon Dixon will play first base and hit seventh Friday.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ATL

Pirates' Carlos Santana: Gets first off day Friday

Santana isn't starting Friday against the Cardinals.

After going 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI in Thursday's contest, Santana will enjoy his first off day of the season Friday. Ji-Man Choi will take over at first base, moving Andrew McCutchen into the DH spot and Canaan Smith-Njigba into right field to start and bat seventh.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Back in lineup Friday

Cooper (leg) is back in the lineup Friday against the Diamondbacks.

Cooper tweaked something in his upper left leg Tuesday and missed Wednesday's series finale versus the Phillies, but he's in there as the Marlins' designated hitter and No. 2 hitter in Friday's series opener against Arizona.

  • Dominic Smith DH | ATL

Nationals' Dominic Smith: Batting second Friday

Smith is batting second Friday versus the Guardians.

Smith has mostly hit third or cleanup so far this season, but the Nats will switch things up Friday against Guardians right-hander Cal Quantrill. Joey Meneses is hitting third and Jeimer Candelario is in the cleanup spot.
