Nate Lowe DH | CIN
Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Goes deep Wednesday
Lowe went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Astros.
Lowe was the only player on either team with a multi-hit effort in the contest. He did his damage early, taking Astros starter Cristian Javier deep in the first inning. Lowe has been one of baseball's best hitters lately with eight homers and a .405 batting average over his last 19 games. For the year, he's slashing .306/.360/.507 with 24 long balls, 68 RBI, 64 runs scored and two stolen bases through 131 contests.

Spencer Torkelson 1B | DET
Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Blasts sixth home run
Torkelson went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Angels.
Torkelson hit his sixth home run of the season and first since getting recalled from Triple-A Toledo earlier this month. His rookie season hasn't lived up to expectations, as the 23-year-old is batting just .197 with a .594 OPS, though the talent is there for him to bounce back in 2023 and deliver on the promise that made him the top pick of the 2020 draft.

Carlos Santana 1B | ATL
Mariners' Carlos Santana: Remains out of lineup
Santana isn't starting Wednesday against the White Sox, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
Santana has gone just 1-for-15 with two runs, two walks and four strikeouts over his last five games and will head to the bench for the third time in the last four matchups. Mitch Haniger is serving as the designated hitter and batting third.

Triston Casas 1B | BOS
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Swats first MLB homer
Casas went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 8-4 loss to Tampa Bay.
Casas swatted his first of what's expected to be many home runs in the majors. With both Franchy Cordero (ankle) and Eric Hosmer (back) sidelined and unlikely to play again in 2022, the Red Sox will give Casas plenty of at-bats over the final weeks of the season in preparation for what should be a full-time gig in 2023.

Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL
White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Sitting Tuesday
Vaughn is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Mariners.
He takes a seat against a tough righty (Logan Gilbert) while AJ Pollock and Gavin Sheets man the outfield corners. Vaughn is hitting .175 with one home run, two walks and nine strikeouts over his last 10 games.

Mariners' Carlos Santana: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Josh Naylor 1B | SEA
Guardians' Josh Naylor: Rare day off Tuesday
Naylor is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Royals.
Naylor had started 16 straight games, hitting .200/.279/.317 with two home runs and two steals in 60 at-bats over that span. Owen Miller will start at first base and bat sixth.

Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY
Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Headaches require additional tests
Rizzo, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, is dealing with headaches that will require additional testing, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports. The team believes the epidural improved Rizzo's back issue.
He had been out with a back issue and was trending toward returning to the lineup soon, but these headaches will be what delays his return. Rizzo's timeline and status could become more clear following the additional tests. Ronald Guzman was promoted to offer first base depth in the short term.

Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE
Rangers' Kole Calhoun: Benched against lefty
Calhoun is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Astros.
Calhoun, a left-handed hitter, currently holds a better OPS against left-handed pitchers this season (.662) than he does when facing righties (.605). Nonetheless, the Rangers will continue to play the matchups. Mark Mathias will fill in as the Rangers' designated hitter and bat fifth against Framber Valdez.

Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY
Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: To 10-day IL
Rizzo (back) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
It sounds like the Yankees are just being careful here, as it was reported Monday that Rizzo could rejoin the lineup Wednesday. Ronald Guzman was recalled to provide first base depth in the short term. Rizzo is eligible to return to action Sept. 11 against the Rays.
