Way will serve as the Royals' opening pitcher Friday against the Tigers, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.

Way will make his first major-league start after posting a 3.22 ERA and 1.52 WHIP with 21 strikeouts over 22.1 innings in 18 appearances with the Royals so far this season. The right-hander will likely be limited to no more than two innings on the mound, and southpaw Noah Cameron is expected to pitch in the contest in some capacity after Way's departure.

Arias will be promoted to Triple-A Worcester, Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports.

Arias will make the jump to the Triple-A level after batting .318 with 19 home runs, 52 RBI, 50 runs scored and five stolen bases over 75 contests with Double-A Portland this season. The 20-year-old is considered Boston's top overall prospect, and he is now just one step away from making his major-league debut.

Pfaadt (5-1) earned the win Thursday against the Cardinals, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out one over six innings.

Pfaadt got off on the wrong foot Thursday, surrendering four consecutive hits to open the game, which led to two St. Louis runs in the first inning. He settled in from there, blanking the Cardinals over the next five frames while allowing just three more hits. The right-hander has won each of his five starts since re-joining the rotation in late June, posting a 2.33 ERA with a 14:3 K:BB across 27 innings during that stretch. For the season, Pfaadt owns a 4.43 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 45:20 K:BB over 65 innings. He's lined up to make his next start on the road against the Pirates.

Holmes (fibula) surrendered two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two batters across 2.1 innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.

Holmes was expected to pitch three frames in his first minor-league rehab outing since suffering a fractured right fibula in mid-May, and he fell two outs short of the goal. The right-hander had a tough time finding the strike zone at times, tossing only 28 of his 51 total pitches for strikes. Holmes will require at least one more rehab start before being activated from the 60-day injured list.

Varland earned the save Thursday against the Rays, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Varland was called upon for the ninth inning with a 3-1 lead and retired the top of Tampa Bay's lineup in order to secure his 21st save of the campaign. The right-hander has converted nine saves over his last 13 appearances while allowing just two runs across 14.1 innings during that span. For the season, Varland owns a dominant 1.04 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 70:13 K:BB across 52 innings.

Bieber (2-1) earned the win Thursday against the Rays, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three over a season-high seven innings.

Bieber turned in his longest outing of the season, with his lone blemish coming on a Yandy Diaz RBI single in the third inning. Outside of the third, the veteran right-hander retired 18 of the 19 batters he faced. He has now recorded a win in consecutive starts after failing to do so in his first four outings of the campaign. Through six starts since returning from the injured list, Bieber owns a 4.70 ERA with a 22:12 K:BB across 30.2 innings. He's lined up to make his next start against the Nationals.

Seymour (6-3) took the loss Thursday against the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings.

Seymour entered after opener Casey Legumina tossed two innings of one-run ball and went on to complete the remainder of the game. While throwing 59 of 87 pitches for strikes, Seymour allowed a run in the third inning before retiring 11 of the next 13 batters, though he surrendered another run in the seventh that saddled him with the loss. It was a strong bounce-back performance after he had been tagged for 12 runs (11 earned) across 11.2 frames in his previous three outings. Seymour owns a 4.64 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 86:27 K:BB over 73.2 innings while making seven starts and 28 relief appearances this season. He's scheduled to make his next trip to the mound at home against the Rangers next week.

Anderson earned the save in Thursday's 3-1, extra-innings win over the Guardians. He logged a walk and a strikeout in a scoreless inning.

After the bulk of Minnesota's high-leverage arms pitched earlier in the contest, it was Anderson who got the call to protect a two-run lead in the 12th frame in just his fifth major-league appearance and second with the Twins. The 26-year-old right-hander got the job done, stranding the free runner on second base while working around a two-out walk to earn the save. Overall, Anderson has allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out eight across 10.1 innings this season between Minnesota and Boston.

Bradley did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Guardians, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out five.

Bradley was excellent Thursday, with the lone blemish against him coming on a Patrick Bailey solo homer in the fifth inning. It's the fourth time that Bradley has gone seven innings while allowing two runs or fewer in his last six starts -- he's posted a 2.84 ERA in that span (38 innings). Overall, his ERA sits at 3.69 through 20 starts (114.2 innings) this season with a 1.22 WHIP and 129:46 K:BB. Bradley currently lines up to face the Royals at home his next time out.

Williams did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Twins, allowing just two hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out 11.

While Cleveland failed to provide Williams with any run support, the right-hander turned in a stellar performance Thursday, as he logged 11 strikeouts for a third straight start and fifth time overall this season. The highlight of Williams' day was his immaculate inning in the fourth, when he struck out Byron Buxton, Ryan Jeffers and Josh Bell on nine pitches. Williams lowered his ERA to 3.78 across 21 starts (126.1 innings) this year with a 1.10 WHIP and 156:37 K:BB. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, tentatively lined up to come next week in Cincinnati.
