  • Akil Baddoo LF | MIL

Brewers' Akil Baddoo: Beginning rehab assignment

Baddoo (quadriceps) will begin a rehab assignment Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Baddoo landed on the 60-day injured list before the season with a left quad strain that he suffered during spring training. He'll need ample rehab at-bats to knock the rust off and is not a lock to be added back to the active roster once he's physically ready.

  • Rob Zastryzny RP | MIL

Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Poised for rehab assignment

Zastryzny (shoulder/ribs) will resume a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Zastryzny began the season on the injured list with a shoulder strain before being pulled off a rehab assignment when he suffered an intercostal strain. The lefty reliever has hardly pitched the last two months, so he'll likely need at least a few rehab outings before being considered for activation.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Facing extended absence

Manager Walk Weiss said Tuesday that Murphy (finger) is expected to be sidelined at least eight weeks, Grant McAuley of the Marietta Daily Journal reports.

The veteran backstop landed on the injured list earlier Tuesday due to a fractured left middle finger, which he sustained Sunday in just his fourth game of the season after opening the year on the injured list while rehabbing from shoulder surgery. Murphy's absence will extend into July and could push beyond the All-Star break. Drake Baldwin is poised to work as Atlanta's starting catcher, and the club signed Sandy Leon to fill the backup job.

  • Cam Sanders RP | PIT

Pirates' Cam Sanders: Optioned to Triple-A

The Pirates optioned Sanders to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Sanders has yielded six runs with a 7:5 K:BB over five innings out of the Pirates' bullpen this season. A corresponding roster move from the Pirates has yet to be announced.

  • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Returns to lineup Tuesday

Benintendi (neck) will start at designated hitter and bat sixth in Tuesday's game against the Royals.

Benintendi missed the previous two contests with neck stiffness, but he's ready to go Tuesday following a team off day Monday. The 31-year-old is sitting on a .235/.272/.365 slash line across 36 contests this season as the White Sox's primary DH.

  • Jose Caballero 2B | NYY

Yankees' Jose Caballero: Dealing with finger fracture

The Yankees placed Caballero on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to a right middle-finger fracture.

Caballero suffered the injury during Sunday's loss to the Brewers on a dive back into first base. It's unclear exactly how long the 29-year-old will be sidelined, but he'll be eligible to be reinstated from the IL on May 21. Anthony Volpe was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move and is likely to step in as New York's primary shortstop.

  • Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Resumes mound work

Crochet (shoulder) threw off a mound Tuesday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Crochet is coming along slowly but surely as he works his way back from left shoulder inflammation. The left-hander last pitched more than two weeks ago, so he will likely require at least one rehab start before rejoining the Red Sox rotation. It's unclear when Crochet will be ready to pitch in a game.

  • Roman Anthony OF | BOS

Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Yet to resume baseball activities

Anthony (wrist) has yet to resume baseball activities, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

The next box Anthony needs to check off is showing he's able to have full grip strength when he grips a bat. That seems to suggest he's not close to returning, though the Red Sox indicated Tuesday that Anthony's right wrist sprain is improving. Masataka Yoshida will continue to serve as the team's primary designated hitter while Anthony recuperates.

  • Logan VanWey RP | HOU

Astros' Logan VanWey: Returns to Triple-A

The Astros optioned VanWey to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Julia Morales of Space City Home Network reports.

Houston selected VanWey's contract Friday, and he'll return to Triple-A after firing two scoreless frames in two appearances. The right-hander has struggled in 15 relief outings for Sugar Land this year with a 5.74 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB over 15.2 innings.

  • Luis Robert CF | NYM

    Mets' Luis Robert: Lingering symptoms

Mets manger Carlos Mendoza said Tuesday that Robert (back) is still experiencing lingering symptoms and "is not progressing the way we would like," Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The decision to call up A.J. Ewing earlier Tuesday was no doubt related to Robert's slow recovery from a lumbar spine disc herniation. Robert has not been cleared to resume baseball activities and appears ticketed for an extended absence. In the meantime, Ewing will get an opportunity to nail down the center-field job for the Mets.
