  • Dylan Cease SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Dylan Cease: Chased early in loss

Cease (11-6) took the loss against the Rangers on Friday, allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits and six walks with three strikeouts over 2.2 innings.

Cease allowed four runs in the second inning, three of which crossed home after a throw by Ernie Clement hit a baserunner. Bad luck aside, the 30-year-old Cease threw just 36 of 74 pitches for strikes and has now issued 11 walks over his last two outings while failing to pitch beyond the fifth frame in any of his past three starts. He owns a 2.40 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 239:78 K:BB across 169 innings this season and will try to finish what has been a stellar campaign strong in a road matchup with the Orioles next week.

  • Tigers' Kevin McGonigle: Drives in four in win

McGonigle went 2-for-5 with a triple and four RBI in Friday's 11-8 win over the White Sox.

McGonigle drove in a run on a single in the third inning before lacing a bases-clearing triple in the fifth. The 22-year-old has now tallied two hits in five of his past seven games, driving in seven runs and scoring five times in that span. He's slashing .277/.378/.428 with 17 homers, 69 RBI, 95 runs scored and 12 steals across 674 plate appearances and is the favorite to win American League Rookie of the Year as the season nears its end.

  • Shane Drohan SP | MIL

Brewers' Shane Drohan: Works in relief again Friday

Drohan struck out two and allowed no hits and one walk over 1.2 scoreless innings of relief in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning victory over the Orioles.

After making starts in all but one of his 13 appearances from the start of June through Sept. 12, Drohan has now worked out of the bullpen in his last two outings. With the Brewers having pared down their rotation as the regular season winds down, Drohan is expected to continue prepping for a relief role heading into the playoffs.

  • Miguel Vargas 3B | CHW

White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Homer, three RBI in loss

Vargas went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Friday's 11-8 loss to the Tigers.

Vargas drove in a run on a double in the first inning before launching a two-run blast in the third. The 27-year-old has now hit safely in seven of his past eight games, and he's driven in eight runs over his last five. • David Sandlin SP | CHW

White Sox's David Sandlin: Falters late in no-decision

Sandlin did not factor into the decision in Friday's 11-8 loss to the Tigers, allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts over four innings.

Sandlin was spotted an early lead but was unable to record an out in a three-run fifth inning. The 25-year-old threw 48 of 74 pitches for strikes with nine whiffs in just his second start since the All-Star break. He owns a bloated 6.29 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 33:13 K:BB across 34.1 major-league innings this season and lines up to make one more start on the road against Kansas City next week.

  • Andrew Sears SP | DET

Tigers' Andrew Sears: Can't escape first frame Friday

Sears did not factor into the decision in Friday's 11-8 win over the White Sox, allowing six unearned runs on one hit and three walks while recording two outs in the first inning. He did not register a strikeout.

Sears lacked command but was a victim of poor defense, as the Tigers made two errors with two outs before he surrendered a bases-clearing double. In five games (three starts) with the Tigers, the 24-year-old owns a 5.19 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB across 17.1 innings. With Jack Flaherty (forearm) potentially returning before the end of the season, it's unclear what Sears' role will be in his next appearance.

Tigers' Kenley Jansen: Earns 21st save

Jansen earned the save in Friday's 11-8 win over the White Sox, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.

The veteran closer has now gone 10 straight appearances without allowing an earned run and owns a 1.86 ERA overall in 19.1 second-half innings. For the season, he's 21-for-27 in save chances with a 3.35 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 49:23 K:BB across 43 frames.

Lee fueled a Tigers comeback, smacking an RBI double in the sixth inning before tying the game with a two-run shot in the eighth. It was the 23-year-old's first career four-hit effort, and he's now tallied six extra-base hits and eight RBI over his past six contests. On the year, he's slashing .264/.320/.432 with 10 homers, 42 RBI, 38 runs scored and two steals across 326 plate appearances.

Bandura has gone 3-for-12 (.250) with a double, a steal and two runs scored over his first five games in the majors. He's made four starts -- two in right field and two as the designated hitter. The outfielder will likely continue to see part-time usage to close out 2026.
