  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Back from 10-day IL

The Athletics reinstated Gelof (hand) from the 10-day injured list Saturday. Gelof had a minimum stint on the IL while recovering from a right hand contusion and did not need to embark on a rehab assignment before returning to the majors. With Brian Serven also being called up, the Athletics optioned both Darell Hernaiz and Joey Meneses to Triple-A Las Vegas in corresponding moves. Prior to his injury, Gelof posted an .834 OPS with eight steals, 11 home runs and 29 RBI in 228 plate appearances.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Lands on 10-day injured list

The Athletics placed Gelof on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a right hand contusion. Gelof suffered a laceration and contusion when he got his hand stepped on in Tuesday's contest in San Francisco. The injury had seemed relatively minor initially, but Gelof ultimately was unable to avoid the IL. Max Muncy has seen a dip in playing time lately, but he should be back in the lineup on a regular basis while Gelof is sidelined.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Out of Wednesday's lineup

Gelof (hand) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's matchup against San Francisco. Gelof will sit Wednesday after being removed from Tuesday's game early in the second inning after suffering a laceration and contusion on his right hand. Max Muncy will take over at third base for Gelof and bat eighth in the lineup.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Considered day-to-day

Manager Mark Kotsay said after Tuesday's game against San Francisco that Gelof didn't suffer a fracture in his hand and won't require stitches, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. The 26-year-old suffered a laceration and contusion when Matt Chapman stepped on his hand in the second inning of Tuesday's contest, but it doesn't seem like Gelof suffered any major injuries during the encounter. That said, Max Muncy could still see an uptick in playing time if Gelof needs to miss a game or two.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Exits with hand injury

Gelof was removed from Tuesday's game against the Giants with a right hand laceration and contusion, Jason Burke of Roundtable.io reports. Matt Chapman stepped on Gelof's hand while the latter tagged out the former at second base in the second inning. Gelof came out of the game immediately afterward, and it's unclear whether his injury will force him to miss additional games. The 26-year-old failed to record a base hit during his lone at-bat of the game, marking the end of his 24-game hitting streak.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Extends hitting streak to 24 games

Gelof went 2-for-5 with a double and three runs scored in Sunday's 9-7 loss to the Angels. After being held out of the lineup Saturday, Gelof returned Sunday and came around to score a season-high three times in the high-scoring affair. The infielder wasted little time extending his hitting streak to 24 games, lacing a single in the first inning. Per Theo DeRosa of MLB.com, the 26-year-old became just the fourth Athletics player since 1961 to record a hitting streak of at least 24 games. Since the streak began May 25, Gelof is slashing .351/.402/.585 with five homers, seven doubles, 12 RBI, 19 runs and two stolen bases.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Leading off in return

Gelof will start at second base and bat leadoff Sunday against the Angels in his return to the lineup after sitting out Saturday's 7-0 loss due to general soreness, MLB.com reports. Though the Athletics didn't specifically indicate that Gelof's absence Saturday was related to being hit in the head by a pitch a night earlier, he may have been held out of the lineup for precautionary reasons. He feels well enough to return to the starting nine Sunday as the Athletics' leadoff man, marking his third consecutive appearance atop the batting order.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Back in action Sunday

Gelof (head) is starting at second base and batting leadoff Sunday against the Angels. Gelof was held out of Saturday's starting nine after being hit by a pitch in the ear flap of his helmet Friday, but he'll rejoin the lineup after sitting out just one game. The 26-year-old will look to extend his 23-game hit streak, during which he's batting .348 (31-for-89) with six doubles, five homers, two steals, 12 RBI and 16 runs.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Keeps streak alive with homer

Gelof went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 12-4 loss to the Pirates. Gelof's hitting streak was on the line, but he extended it to 21 games with a ninth-inning solo shot. He's now batting 30-for-82 (.366) with five homers and 12 RBI during the streak. The infielder is hitting .286 with an .843 OPS, 11 homers, 29 RBI, 35 runs scored and eight stolen bases over 58 contests this season.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Homer, steal in win

Gelof went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a stolen base and a second run scored in Saturday's 7-5 win over the Rockies. Gelof got the start in right field for this contest. He had been primarily playing second base or third base, but the recent returns of Max Muncy and Jacob Wilson have crowded the infield. Carlos Cortes has also slumped a bit lately, which could leave right field up for grabs. Gelof has been excellent at the plate, hitting safely in 17 straight games. He's gone 23-for-67 (.343) in that span while adding three homers, eight RBI and five doubles. Overall, he's batting .271 with a .791 OPS, nine homers, seven steals, 25 RBI, 30 runs scored, eight doubles and a triple over 54 contests this season.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Deposits double in loss

Gelof went 2-for-4 with one double in Wednesday's 9-1 loss to the Mariners. Gelof blooped an opposite-field double in the fourth inning before adding a single in the ninth frame, joining Darell Hernaiz as the only Athletics to record multiple hits in the blowout loss. Gelof logged a hit in all three contests against Seattle, totaling five knocks in the series and marking a step in the right direction after he went 6-for-40 (.150) across the previous 10 games. With Max Muncy (hand) sidelined since April 28, Gelof has emerged as the Athletics' primary option at third base.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Notches two more steals

Gelof went 0-for-5 with a run, an RBI and two stolen bases Thursday in a 3-2, extra-inning win over the Angels. Gelof made a big real-life and fantasy impact despite finishing without a hit. He reached on a fielder's choice in the seventh inning and stole second base before coming around to score. Gelof later plated the game-winning run with an RBI on a groundout in the 10th, and he subsequently swiped another bag. He's stolen four bases in his past five games and is up to six thefts on the campaign to go along with six homers, 19 runs, 17 RBI and a .255/.305/.480 slash line through 112 plate appearances.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Big day at plate Tuesday

Gelof went 3-for-5 with a home run, two total runs and three total RBI against the Angels in a 14-6 rout Tuesday. Gelof knocked in two runs with a single in the third inning and then hit a solo homer in the seventh. He made his 12th straight start at third base after previously spending most of his time this season in the outfield or at second base. Gelof is getting everyday at-bats due to injuries to Max Muncy (hand) and Jacob Wilson (shoulder), but he may be earning himself a permanent role in the lineup even when the club is healthy. Through 16 contests in May, Gelof is batting .293 with five homers, 12 runs, 12 RBI and two stolen bases.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Goes deep in defeat

Gelof went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 5-4 loss to St. Louis. Gelof got a center-cut fastball from Ryne Stanek in the seventh inning and sent it over the left-center field wall for his second long ball in as many games. It has been a scorching start to May for Gelof, who is slashing .308/.372/.692 with four homers, nine RBI and eight runs across 11 games this month. The 26-year-old is valued for his ability to play multiple positions around the diamond, but with Max Muncy (hand) sidelined, Gelof has seized regular playing time at third base.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Homers in Wednesday's win

Gelof went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Cardinals. Gelof saw a nine-game hitting streak snapped in Tuesday's series opener against St. Louis, but he bounced back Wednesday. He took Gordon Graceffo deep in the eighth inning to tack on the Athletics' last run of the game. Gelof is batting .257 with a .793 OPS, four homers, 12 RBI, 13 runs scored and two stolen bases over 26 contests this season, which saw him start the year at Triple-A Las Vegas. A natural second baseman, he's currently occupying a starting role at third base in the absence of Max Muncy (hand). Gelof may settle into a utility role once the Athletics are healthier, but his current production should help him maintain a place in the lineup regardless of where he fits in defensively.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Starts again, goes deep

Gelof went 2-for-5 with a home run, a triple, three total RBI and two total runs against the Phillies in a 12-1 win Thursday. Gelof didn't reach in either of his first two plate appearances, but he smacked a run-scoring triple in the fifth inning and followed that with a two-run homer in the seventh. The 26-year-old started for the seventh time in the A's past eight games, and he's delivered a .321 batting average with two home runs, six RBI, six runs and a stolen base during that span. Gelof has gotten starts at second base and third base as well as in center field, and he may be playing his way into a permanent roster spot even after Max Muncy (hand) and Denzel Clarke (foot) return from the injured list.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Launches first home run

Gelof went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and an additional run scored in Friday's 8-1 victory over the Rangers. The 26-year-old picked up a fourth start in five games with Denzel Clarke (foot) on the injured list and finally got his bat going Friday, clubbing a two-run home run in the ninth inning to close out the scoring. Gelof may continue to get regular playing time in the short term with Clarke on the shelf, but he isn't likely to generate much fantasy upside given his lack of success at the MLB level (.174/.230/.272 slash line over 30 contests last season) since posting an .841 OPS in 69 games as a rookie in 2023.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Gelof is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Seattle. Gelof started each of the previous three games, including the last two in center field while Denzel Clarke (foot) was unavailable. Clarke was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier Wednesday, but Gelof will begin the series finale on the bench while Lawrence Butler shifts over to center field.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Tallies two RBI in loss

Gelof went 1-for-3 with a two-run double and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the White Sox. Gelof drew the start in right field and contributed with his timely double in the seventh inning before being pinch hit for by Jeff McNeil in the ninth. The double marked Gelof's first RBI of the campaign after opening the season at Triple-A Las Vegas and being recalled April 10. The 26-year-old has seen minimal playing time thus far, going 2-for-8 (.250) across seven MLB appearances.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Slightly behind schedule

Gelof (shoulder) will be held out of action for the beginning of the Athletics' Cactus League schedule, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Gelof is still building up his hitting progression after he had surgery last September to repair a dislocated left shoulder. Barring setbacks, it doesn't seem he is in danger of being unavailable for Opening Day, though the 26-year-old isn't a lock to make the roster. Gelof has been working out in the outfield this spring and could transition to a utility role.
