Dominic Smith DH | ATL
Giants' Dominic Smith: Taking seat against southpaw
Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The left-handed-hitting Smith started in each of the Giants' last five games while the team went up against right-handed starting pitchers, but he'll bow out of the lineup for the series finale with southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez on the bump for Arizona. Smith's absence from the starting nine clears the way for Wilmer Flores to fill in at first base.

Xander Bogaerts SS | SD
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Resumes light baseball activities
Bogaerts (foot) has resumed light baseball activities this week, MLB.com reports.
Bogaerts is just under two weeks removed from suffering a non-displaced fracture in his left foot, so he will be eased along slowly. The Padres are hopeful of getting their shortstop back in late September or early October, so Bogaerts will probably play only in the last few regular-season games in a best-case scenario. Jose Iglesias has been filling in at shortstop for San Diego.

Drew Gilbert CF | SF
Giants' Drew Gilbert: Sitting after six straight starts
Gilbert is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Though the left-handed-hitting Gilbert will retreat to the bench as the Diamondbacks send lefty Eduardo Rodriguez to the hill, the rookie appears to have overtaken Luis Matos as San Francisco's preferred option in right field. While the Giants faced right-handers in each of the previous six contests, Matos started just twice while Gilbert was included in the lineup on all six occasions. Over his last 10 games, Gilbert has slashed .353/.395/.706 with seven extra-base knocks, three walks, 10 RBI and nine runs.

Graham Pauley 3B | MIA
Marlins' Graham Pauley: Kicking off rehab assignment
Pauley (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Pauley has been on the shelf for more than three weeks with a right oblique strain but has been cleared to return to game action. He will play third base for Jacksonville on Wednesday and shouldn't need too many rehab contests before being activated from the 10-day injured list. Pauley will beat Connor Norby (quadriceps) back from the IL, so the former should be the Marlins' primary third baseman when he returns, at least until the latter is ready.

Luke Adams 3B | MIL
Brewers' Luke Adams: Healthy again at Double-A
Adams (shoulder) went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in his return to the Double-A Biloxi lineup Tuesday after being reinstated from the 7-day injured list.
Adams was back in action for Biloxi for the first time since June 20 after a left shoulder contusion kept him out for an extended period. He was cleared to rejoin the Double-A club after recently wrapping up a nine-game rehab assignment at High-A Wisconsin, during which he slashed .200/.475/.280. During his time with Biloxi this season, Adams has produced a .411 on-base percentage while slugging 11 home runs and stealing 10 bases across 263 plate appearances.

Shelby Miller RP | CHC
Brewers' Shelby Miller: Hopeful of avoiding full UCL repair
Miller is hopeful of avoiding a full UCL repair of his right elbow following a visit with Dr. Keith Meister in Texas, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Miller needs surgery, but a procedure that's less invasive than Tommy John surgery would give him a chance to return late in the 2026 season. The reliever collected a 2.74 ERA and 54:15 K:BB over 46 innings between the Diamondbacks and Brewers this season and will be a free agent this winter.

William Contreras C | MIL
Brewers' William Contreras: Receiving afternoon off
Contreras is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.
The Brewers are wrapping up their series in Arlington with a day game after a night game, so manager Pat Murphy likely decided it was an opportune time to give Contreras a much-overdue breather. Danny Jansen will step in behind the plate and Christian Yelich will serve as Milwaukee's designated hitter Wednesday after Contreras had started in every game dating back to June 27.
-
Isaac Collins LF | KC
Brewers' Isaac Collins: Idle for series finale
Collins is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.
The switch-hitting Collins will bow out of the starting nine for the second time in the series, this time sitting against a right-hander (Merrill Kelly) after he had been held out of the lineup Monday versus lefty Jacob Latz. With Collins on the bench, Jackson Chourio will cover left field, which opens up center field for Blake Perkins.

Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL
Brewers' Andrew Vaughn: Getting breather Wednesday
Vaughn is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rangers.
Vaughn started the first two games of the series and each of the last six contests, but he'll get a break during Wednesday's finale. Jake Bauers -- not the recently-activated Rhys Hoskins -- will fill in at first base in Vaughn's stead.
-
Ildemaro Vargas 1B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Not in Wednesday's lineup
Vargas is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in San Francisco.
Vargas started the previous two games at first base as the Diamondbacks scramble to fill the position following injuries to Pavin Smith (quadriceps) and Tyler Locklear (elbow), but Vargas will take a seat in Wednesday's series finale. Tim Tawa is handling first base and batting eighth as Arizona tries to avoid the sweep.
