Bubba Chandler SP | PIT
Pirates' Bubba Chandler: Awarded another start
Chandler is slated to start Saturday's game against the Nationals in Washington.
After turning in a shiny 2.25 ERA and 0.83 WHIP over 12 innings across three bulk-relief appearances to begin his time in the big leagues, Chandler was handed his first MLB start this past Sunday against the Brewers. The 22-year-old righty was handily knocked around by the NL Central leaders, lasting just 2.2 innings in a 10-2 loss while yielding nine earned runs on nine hits and three walks. Despite the wretched outing, Chandler will be deployed as a starter once again Saturday, though another poor showing could prompt the Pirates to shift him back to his prior bulk-relief role.

Walker Buehler SP | SD
Phillies' Walker Buehler: Victorious in Phillies debut
Buehler (8-7) earned the win Friday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over five innings against Kansas City. He struck out three.
The veteran right-hander was assigned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after signing with the Phillies in late August, and he delivered one of his better starts of the season in his team debut after a tumultuous run in Boston. Buehler will be part of the Phillies' six-man rotation for the final weeks of the regular season, and Friday's showing was a good step toward potentially earning a spot on the playoff roster. His 5.29 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 117.1 innings between Boston and Philadelphia remain unsightly, however.

Jose Ferrer RP | SEA
Nationals' Jose Ferrer: Labors through ninth save
Ferrer picked up the save in Friday's 6-5 victory over the Pirates. He allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one over one inning.
Ferrer was called upon to protect a 6-3 lead in the ninth inning Friday, and he needed the entirety of that cushion and was fortunate to escape with the save. The bumpy performance ended a string of 14 straight scoreless appearances, though he remains 9-for-9 in save chances since taking over as Washington's closer after the trade deadline.

Brad Lord RP | WAS
Nationals' Brad Lord: Quality start in no-decision
Lord did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks over six innings versus the Pirates. He struck out four.
After a three-start stretch in late August in which he surrendered a combined 17 earned runs, Lord has bounced back in his past two outings with a 3.09 ERA and 11:4 K:BB over 11.2 innings. The 25-year-old rookie has started in 16 of his 45 appearances for the Nationals this year and has a 4.21 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 96:39 K:BB across 115.1 innings. His next start tentatively lines up to come versus Atlanta.

Mitch Keller SP | PIT
Pirates' Mitch Keller: Takes no-decision
Keller did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over 5.1 innings in a 6-5 loss against Washington. He struck out four.
The right-hander appeared on his way to his seventh victory of the season with a 3-0 lead through five frames, but he was charged with a couple runs on three hits in the sixth before the Pittsburgh bullpen faltered an inning later. Keller entered the All-Star break with a 3.48 ERA across 119 innings, but he has a 5.73 ERA in 10 starts since the midseason break.

Ian Happ LF | CHC
Cubs' Ian Happ: Homers, on base four times
Happ went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, a home run and an additional RBI in Friday's 6-4 victory over Tampa Bay.
The left fielder continued his strong start to September and has a .333/.435/.615 slash line with two doubles, three homers and a 7:10 BB:K through 10 contests this month. Happ struggled through most of the first half of the season but has delivered a .900 OPS in 37 games since the start of August.

Andrew Kittredge RP | BAL
Cubs' Andrew Kittredge: Secures another save
Kittredge picked up the save Friday against the Rays, recording one strikeout while retiring all three batters he faced.
It's the second straight outing with a save for Kittredge, who appears to be manager Craig Counsell's top choice at closer with Daniel Palencia (shoulder) on the shelf. Brad Keller also seemed to be in the closer mix but has worked the eighth inning ahead of Kittredge in those two games.

Matthew Boyd SP | CHC
Cubs' Matthew Boyd: Notches 13th win
Boyd (13-8) earned the win Friday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over five innings against the Rays. He struck out one.
Boyd delivered his shortest start since Aug. 8 and surrendered at least four runs for the fourth time in his last five outings, but he was still able to build on his career-high win total. The left-hander had a 2.46 ERA through his first 24 starts of the year, but the recent stumble has seen that mark increase to 3.05. Still, it's been a career year for Boyd, whose previous career best in a season of more than 15 starts was a 4.39 ERA.

Michael Conforto RF | CHC
Dodgers' Michael Conforto: Provides lone run in loss
Conforto went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-1 extra-inning loss to the Giants.
Conforto took Justin Verlander deep in the seventh inning for the Dodgers' lone run of the game. Conforto is 6-for-27 (.222) over eight games in September, with Friday's performance marking his first extra-base hit and first RBI of the month. The veteran outfielder has struggled all year with a .193/.297/.331 slash line, 11 homers, 30 RBI, 47 runs scored and one stolen base over 127 contests. The Dodgers' outfield is at full health, so Conforto will face challenges from Andy Pages, Alex Call and Hyeseong Kim for starts in left field.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto SP | LAD
Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto: Dazzles again in no-decision
Yamamoto allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out 10 over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Friday.
There was no late drama in this one, as Yamamoto gave up both baserunners and the lone run on his line in the first inning in his first start since losing a no-hitter after 8.2 innings versus the Orioles last Saturday. Yamamoto retired 20 straight batters to end his start, which was his third straight effort of at least seven innings of one-run ball, and he's tallied 10 strikeouts in each of those games. The right-hander was dominant early in the year and has returned to that form down the stretch with some of his best outings of 2025, including five straight quality starts since his start in Colorado on Aug. 18. Yamamoto is at a 2.66 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 187:51 K:BB through 162.1 innings over 28 starts this season. He's lined up for a rematch versus the Giants at Chavez Ravine next week.
