  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Activated from IL

The Giants reinstated Encarnacion (hamstring) from the injured list Saturday.

A Grade 2 strain in Encarnacion's right hamstring has kept him on the shelf since early August. After playing in five rehab games and going 2-for-17 with two RBI, a run scored and a steal, the 27-year-old outfielder will return to San Francisco and replace Dominic Smith (hamstring) on the 28-man roster. Encarnacion will start in right field and bat seventh Saturday but isn't expected to receive regular starts down the stretch.

  • Dominic Smith DH | ATL

Giants' Dominic Smith: Lands on IL

The Giants placed Smith on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right hamstring strain.

Smith injured himself while doing the splits to catch a throw from Matt Chapman during Friday's contest, and it will now cause him to miss at least 10 days while on the injured list. Rafael Devers will start at first base Saturday against Los Angeles and figures to do so more often until Smith returns. Meanwhile, Jerar Encarnacion (hamstring) will come off the IL to claim the open spot on the active roster.

  • Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Resting Saturday

Vargas isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Minnesota.

After collecting a base hit in each of his last four games, Vargas will receive a day to rest while Tim Tawa starts at first base for the Diamondbacks.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Returning to action Saturday

Marte (foot) will start at second base and bat second Saturday against the Twins.

Marte was able to get through pregame activities without any problems, so he'll receive the green light to return to Arizona's lineup Saturday. The 31-year-old will aim to break out of a slump after going 3-for-26 with an RBI and two runs scored over his last seven games.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Not in Saturday's lineup

Edman isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game versus the Giants, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Edman will retreat to the bench after going 1-for-8 with a run scored in two games since his return from the injured list. While he rests, Miguel Rojas will start at second base, and Michael Conforto, Andy Pages and Teoscar Hernandez will patrol the outfield.

  • Hye Seong Kim SS | LAD

Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Sitting in fourth straight

Kim isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against San Francisco, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Saturday marks the fourth straight game that will begin with Kim on the bench, as he's been conceding starts at the keystone to Miguel Rojas and Tommy Edman. Kim looks as though he'll have to settle for a regular reserve role with the recent return of Edman from the injured list creating a logjam in the infield.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: In Saturday's lineup

Muncy (forearm) will start at third base and bat fourth against the Giants on Saturday, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Muncy was taken out of Friday's contest after getting hit on the forearm by a pitch, but the damage wasn't significant enough for him to miss a start. He'll aim to build some momentum Saturday after going 1-for-9 with two walks since his return from the IL.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Out of Saturday's lineup

Smith (hand) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Now set to miss his eighth game in 10 days due to a lingering hand injury, Smith could be facing a trip to the injured list if his condition doesn't improve soon. Ben Rortvedt will start behind the plate again and bat ninth.

  • Brenton Doyle CF | COL

Rockies' Brenton Doyle: Sitting out Saturday

Doyle isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against San Diego, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Doyle will pick out a spot on the bench after going 1-for-6 with four strikeouts through the first two games of the series. Jordan Beck, Mickey Moniak and Tyler Freeman will start in the outfield for the Rockies while Yanquiel Fernandez serves as their DH.

  • Ryan Ritter 2B | COL

Rockies' Ryan Ritter: Out again Saturday

Ritter (undisclosed) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The Rockies haven't disclosed any information about Ritter's injury, but Saturday will mark the fifth consecutive contest he's missed because of it. Orlando Arcia will start at second and bat ninth against right-hander Dylan Cease; meanwhile, Ritter may be ticketed for a trip to the IL if he doesn't return soon.
