Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Tuesday that Diaz's placement on the 15-day injured list is due to neck inflammation, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.

Diaz will head back to Los Angeles to undergo further tests for his neck issue Wednesday, and the initial expectation is that the right-hander will return this season, per Jack Harris of the California Post. Diaz saw his fastball velocity bottom out at 93 mph during Monday's outing against the Rockies, when he allowed three runs on four hits in one inning. Tanner Scott figures to serve as the Dodgers' preferred closer for as long as Diaz is sidelined.

Gonzales is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.

Gonzales went 1-for-2 with two walks, a double and a run Monday after missing the previous two contests due to a facial contusion, which he sustained Friday on a hit-by-pitch. The 27-year-old will head to the bench Tuesday while Jared Triolo picks up a start at the hot corner while batting ninth.

The Cubs are expected to activate Palencia (elbow) from the 60-day injured list in the coming days, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

The Cubs haven't committed to an exact date for Palencia to return from the IL, but manager Craig Counsell told reporters Tuesday the 26-year-old right-hander will be activated "soon." A right flexor strain has sidelined Palencia since mid-June, but he won't have a defined role upon his return, per Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com. It appears that, for now, the Cubs prefer keeping Jacob Webb as the main closer, with Palencia getting some work in high-leverage situations.

Mets interim manager Andy Green said Tuesday that Vientos (hand) is "nearing" a rehab assignment, Michelle Margaux of SNY reports.

Green wouldn't provide an exact date of when Vientos would embark on a rehab assignment. Nevertheless, it's a positive sign in the veteran infielder's progress in his recovery from a fractured right hand that caused him to go on the injured list right before the All-Star break in July. The Mets should have a better sense of when Vientos can return from the IL once he's officially cleared to play in minor-league games.

The right-hander was activated from the injured list in late July after missing more than three months following surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow, and he's now headed back to the shelf after surrendering 11 runs and blowing three of six save chances in nine appearances since returning. According to Jack Harris of the California Post, Diaz's fastball bottomed out at 93 mph in a low-leverage appearance Monday, when he gave up three runs on four hits in one frame. It's encouraging Diaz isn't believed to be dealing with an arm issue, but his return timeline will remain up in the air until more information is available on the injury.

The Rockies recalled Fulford from Triple-A Albuquerque, and the 27-year-old will start behind home plate and bat eighth against the Dodgers on Tuesday.

The move gives the Rockies much-needed depth behind home plate after star catcher Hunter Goodman (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Fulford will be thrust into action immediately following his promotion to the majors, where he's slashed .177/.254/.290 with four steals, one home run and seven RBI across 71 plate appearances with Colorado this season.

Gurriel (adductor) has been sent to Triple-A Reno to begin a rehab assignment.

Gurriel landed on the 10-day injured list shortly after the All-Star break, but he's ready to test things out in games after going through workouts at the Diamondbacks' spring training facility in Arizona. He should be ready to rejoin the active roster later this month. What's unclear is what Gurriel's role will be upon return, as the Diamondbacks traded for Lars Nootbaar and got Jordan Lawlar back from injury after Gurriel was hurt.

Rodriguez (elbow) will start a rehab assignment this week, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Rodriguez has been on the 10-day injured list since Aug. 1 due to right elbow neuritis, and he's ready to take the next step in his recovery program by playing in minor-league games. Per Pavlovic, the plan for Rodriguez is to see more work as an infielder once he's cleared to return from the IL.

Miller (shoulder) struck out three and allowed two hits and one walk over three scoreless innings in a rehab appearance Sunday with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Miller has made all but one of his 37 career big-league appearances as a starter, but he looks to be preparing for a relief role during his rehab assignment. While he's covered multiple innings in each of his first three rehab outings, he's been used out of the bullpen for the last two appearances. The 27-year-old righty has been on the shelf all season while recovering from shoulder and back injuries and may need another tune-up outing or two in the minors before potentially joining the Los Angeles bullpen.

The Dodgers outrighted Irvin to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Aug. 6.

After being called up from Oklahoma City on July 31, Irvin made a six-inning relief appearance in a loss to the Red Sox before being dropped from the 40-man roster a day later. Rather than opting to become a free agent, the 32-year-old lefty has settled back into the rotation at Oklahoma City. He's given up two runs while striking out 11 batters over 11.2 innings in two starts since returning to Triple-A.
