  • Marlins' Robby Snelling: Mixed results in debut

Snelling (0-1) took the loss against the Nationals on Friday, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts over five innings. Snelling allowed three runs with two outs in the first inning but battled to keep Washington off the board from there. He generated 12 whiffs on 86 pitches but generally struggled with command, issuing four walks and yielding multiple baserunners in every frame except a clean fourth. It was still a respectable debut for the 22-year-old, who entered Friday with a 1.86 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 44:15 K:BB across 29 innings at Triple-A Jacksonville. He lines up for a road matchup against the Twins next week.

  • Marlins' Robby Snelling: Contract selected ahead of debut

The Marlins selected Snelling's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday. Snelling is set to make his major-league debut Friday with a start against the Nationals at home. The left-hander earned a promotion after collecting a dominant 1.86 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 44:15 K:BB in 29 innings covering six starts with Jacksonville. Snelling is taking the rotation spot vacated by Chris Paddack, who was designated for assignment. The 22-year-old rookie will have an opportunity to stick with the big club over the long haul if he performs.

  • Marlins' Robby Snelling: Set for promotion Friday

Snelling appears on track to be called up from Triple-A Jacksonville to start Friday against the Nationals after Braxton Garrett took his regular turn through the Jacksonville rotation Tuesday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Snelling's next turn for Jacksonville is set to come Friday, so he was always the more likely candidate to get called up to take the spot of Chris Paddack, who was designated for assignment Tuesday. Snelling has had an outstanding start to the season at Triple-A, posting a 1.86 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 44:15 K:BB through 29 innings.

  • Marlins' Robby Snelling: Option to take Paddack's spot

Snelling is an option to start Friday's game against the Nationals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The Marlins have an opening in their rotation after designating Chris Paddack for assignment. Braxton Garrett could be first in line since he's already on the 40-man roster and Snelling is not. However, Snelling is certainly pitching well enough to get a look, having collected a 1.86 ERA and 44:15 K:BB over 29 innings covering six starts for Triple-A Jacksonville. Even if Snelling isn't the choice by the Marlins this time around, he should get his opportunity sooner rather than later.

  • Marlins' Robby Snelling: Piling up strikeouts at Triple-A

Snelling struck out 12 batters over five scoreless innings for Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, allowing two hits and four walks. The 22-year-old southpaw tossed 94 pitches (57 strikes) in a dominant performance, and efficiency may be the final hurdle for Snelling to clear as he pushes for a promotion to the majors. Through three starts and 13 innings to begin the season for Jacksonville, he's posted a 2.77 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB, but he's lasted at least five innings only once. With Janson Junk pitching well in the Marlins' rotation, the organization likely isn't in a rush to bring Snelling up for his MLB debut, but he could be first to get the call should an injury open up a spot.

  • Marlins' Robby Snelling: Reassigned to minor-league camp

The Marlins reassigned Snelling to minor-league camp Wednesday. A top pitching prospect, Snelling was trying to push Janson Junk and Braxton Garrett for a spot in the Marlins' rotation this spring. The 22-year-old Snelling, however, will have to wait to make his MLB debut. In four appearances this spring, the left-hander logged a 7.56 ERA but dazzled with 13 strikeouts across 8.1 innings of work. Snelling seems likely to be with the Marlins at some point during the 2026 campaign after turning in a 2.51 ERA and 11.0 K/9 across 136 minor-league innings last season.

  • Marlins' Robby Snelling: Makes statement to start spring

Snelling tossed a perfect first inning in the Marlins' Grapefruit League game against the Mets on Saturday. Getting the start in Miami's spring opener, Snelling faced Marcus Semien, Juan Soto and Bo Bichette and retired them on just 10 pitches (six strikes). The young left-hander doesn't have a clear path to a spot in the Opening Day rotation following the signing of Chris Paddack, but after an astonishing close to the 2025 campaign with Triple-A Jacksonville in which he posted a 1.27 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 81:17 K:BB over 63.2 innings, Snelling could force the Marlins to make a tough choice with a strong performance in camp.

  • Marlins' Robby Snelling: Gets nod to open spring schedule

Snelling will start for the Marlins in their Grapefruit League opener Saturday against the Mets, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The southpaw is set to work only one inning, but Snelling is in camp looking to make as many good impressions as possible. Miami doesn't have a spot for him in the Opening Day rotation after signing Chris Paddack, but after being named the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2025, Snelling could be the next man up in case of an injury. The 22-year-old delivered a dazzling 1.27 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 81:17 K:BB over 11 starts and 63.2 innings for Triple-A Jacksonville last season after a mid-July promotion from Double-A.

  • Marlins' Robby Snelling: Pushing hard for promotion

Snelling allowed four hits and three walks over six scoreless innings for Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday. He struck out eight. The 21-year-old southpaw hasn't given up an earned run in 21 straight innings for the Jumbo Shrimp, and he's worked at least six innings in five straight starts, delivering a stunning 0.88 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 46:6 K:BB over 30.2 innings during that dominant stretch. Ryan Gusto is getting called up Friday to take the open spot in the Marlins' rotation created when Cal Quantrill was waived, but Snelling has done everything he can to demonstrate he's ready for a big-league audition over the final weeks of the season.

  • Marlins' Robby Snelling: Keeps dominating at Triple-A

Snelling gave up five hits and a walk over six scoreless innings for Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday. He struck out 11. It's the second time in three starts that Snelling has fanned 11 batters, and in five outings since his promotion to Jacksonville, the 21-year-old southpaw has a dazzling 1.63 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 34:5 K:BB over 27.2 innings. He isn't on the 40-man roster and hasn't yet been shifted to a five-day schedule that would mirror a big-league rotation, so the Marlins may not have immediate plans to bring him up. Snelling appears ready for the majors, however, and a promotion in the second half of August would still preserve his rookie status for 2026.

  • Marlins' Robby Snelling: Sets new career high in Ks

Snelling gave up two runs on four hits over 6.2 innings for Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday, striking out 11 without walking a batter. It was the best performance of the 21-year-old lefty's career, with the 11 Ks representing a new personal best. Snelling has been impressive since getting bumped up to Triple-A, posting a 2.30 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 16:4 K:BB over 15.2 innings, and if the Marlins find new homes for the likes of Sandy Alcantara and Edward Cabrera at the trade deadline, Snelling could be among the replacements called up to fortify the big-league rotation.

  • Marlins' Robby Snelling: Traded to Fish

Snelling is part of the prospect package going from San Diego to Miami in exchange for Tanner Scott and Bryan Hoeing, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. Snelling is the youngest qualified pitcher at Double-A, which helps explain some of his struggles this season. He had a 6.01 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and a 67:33 K:BB in 73.1 innings across 16 starts in the Texas League. Snelling has been capable of strong performances this year, including several starts in which he allowed one earned run or fewer with five-plus strikeouts over at least five innings, but he has lacked consistency, mixing in multiple starts in which he gave up more runs than innings pitched. The Marlins will likely assign Snelling to Double-A Pensacola, and if he can display more consistency, he could join the big-league rotation at some point in 2025.

  • Padres' Robby Snelling: Uneven at Double-A

Snelling has a 3.86 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 23:14 K:BB in 28 innings across six starts for Double-A San Antonio. The youngest qualified pitcher at Double-A, Snelling was excellent in his first three starts (1.98 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 15:7 K:BB in 13.2 IP), but he's allowed 21 hits while walking seven and striking out eight in 14.1 innings over his last three starts. On the bright side, the young southpaw has thrown five-plus innings in back-to-back starts and is a level or two ahead of most 20-year-old pitching prospects.
