Puk (elbow) threw a 20-pitch live batting practice session Tuesday, Alex D'Agostino of SI.com reports.

Puk faced hitters for the first time since undergoing internal brace surgery on his left elbow last June. Per Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo, Puk's fastball sat in the mid-90s during the throwing session, and the left-hander bounced back well following the workout. The successful live BP session should set Puk up to begin a rehab assignment this weekend in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

The Mets selected Thornton's contract from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday in Washington.

New York optioned reliever Daniel Duarte to the minors to clear room on the active roster for Thornton, who will be making his MLB debut Wednesday. The 24-year-old lefty will get a look in the New York rotation after he compiled a 3.55 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 33:10 K:BB over 33 innings across six starts between Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton. Though Kodai Senga (spine) seems to be trending toward a return from the injured list in the next couple weeks, the back end of the rotation has been a trouble spot for the Mets all season. With that in mind, Thornton could end up sticking around in a starting role on a more permanent basis if he's able to find success in his initial opportunities with the big club.

The Mets optioned Duarte to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

After being called up from Triple-A on Monday, the 29-year-old made his Mets debut a day later against the Nationals, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The Mets sent him back to Syracuse in order to make room on the active roster for Wednesday's starting pitcher, Zach Thornton.

Moreno is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

Moreno started the first two games of the series against San Francisco but will receive the day off for the series finale. Prior to Tuesday's 0-for-3 performance, Moreno had been on a tear over the previous four games, going 9-for-19 with a double, a homer, two steals, five RBI and five runs. Adrian Del Castillo will be behind the plate and bat cleanup Wednesday.

Arenado is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

With Arizona wrapping up its series against San Francisco with a day game after a night game, Arenado will receive the afternoon off to rest along with Corbin Carroll and Gabriel Moreno. The Diamondbacks will go with Jose Fernandez at third base in place of Arenado, who has enjoyed a resurgent 2026 thus far with an .828 OPS -- his highest mark since 2022 -- over 171 plate appearances on the season.

Atlanta designated Azocar for assignment Wednesday.

Atlanta reinstated Eli White (concussion) from the 7-day injured list, with Azocar giving up his spot on the active roster to facilitate the move. Azocar has logged 16 plate appearances with Atlanta on the season, slashing .333/.375/.467 with a stolen base and a run.

The Marlins optioned Garrett to Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday.

After being called up from Jacksonville on May 14 to replace the injured Robby Snelling (elbow) in the rotation, Garrett didn't perform well enough to earn a longer-term stay with the big club. Between his starts against Minnesota and Atlanta, Garrett covered just 4.1 innings and allowed seven earned runs while walking more batters (eight) than he struck out (five). The Marlins have yet to announce a new fifth starter, but Thomas White was scratched from his scheduled outing with Jacksonville on Wednesday and appears to be the leading candidate to enter the big-league rotation.

Atlanta activated White from the 7-day concussion injured list Wednesday.

White missed a little more than a week of action while recovering from concussion symptoms, but he'll skip a rehab assignment and go directly back onto the big-league roster. The 31-year-old will serve as an extra outfielder for Atlanta and will see some playing time against left-handed pitching.

Scott (1-1) earned the win over San Diego on Tuesday, walking one batter and striking out two over 1.1 scoreless and hitless innings.

Scott has been Los Angeles' primary closer since Edwin Diaz (elbow) landed on the injured list April 20, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts elected to call on Scott in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday. The lefty's entrance came at a critical moment, as the Padres had put runners on first and second with two outs in a 4-4 game. Scott got Ramon Laureano to fly out to end the threat and then worked around a two-out walk to retire the side in the eighth. He moved in line for the victory when Los Angeles plated a run in the top of the ninth, and Will Klein got the final three outs in the bottom of that inning for his first career save. Scott's usage Tuesday shouldn't be viewed as an indication that he's not the Dodgers' first choice as closer, though it does suggest that Roberts isn't against using him in earlier high-leverage spots if the situation calls for it.

Carroll is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

During Tuesday's game, Carroll was hit in the head by a relay throw on his triple in the bottom of the first inning. He was able to stay in the game and ended up playing all nine innings of Arizona's 5-3 comeback win. According to Jose M. Romero of The Arizona Republic, Carroll exhibited no symptoms of a concussion during or after Tuesday's game and campaigned to play Wednesday, but manager Torey Lovullo said that he elected to give the star outfielder the day off since he was due for a breather anyway. Jorge Barrosa will get the nod in right field in place of Carroll, who had started each of Arizona's last 33 games.
