Nationals' Lane Thomas: Drives in four runs

Thomas went 3-for-6 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored in Friday's win over Colorado.

Thomas finished a home run shy of the cycle as he stuffed the stat sheet Friday. He knocked an RBI single in the third inning and a two-run double in the fourth before capping his day off with an RBI triple in the sixth. Thomas struggled early in the year, but in 24 games since returning from a knee injury he's gone 27-for-94 (.287) with 13 extra-base hits and 18 RBI.

  • Davidjohn Herz SP | WAS

Nationals' DJ Herz: Lackluster start in Colorado

Herz allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 3.2 innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out five during a win over the Rockies.

All four runs against Herz came on three homers as he stumbled in his first career appearance at Coors Field. Entering Friday's start, he'd given up only one long ball through 14.1 innings to begin his MLB tenure. Herz fired a 13-strikeout quality start against Miami on June 15 but has totaled just 12 innings in his other three outings. He's sporting a 4.50 ERA with a strong 26:5 K:BB through 18 innings. Herz is in line for a start in San Diego next week.

  • Dakota Hudson SP | LAA

Rockies' Dakota Hudson: Hammered for eight runs

Hudson (2-10) allowed eight runs on 11 hits and two walks over three-plus innings while taking a loss against the Nationals on Friday.

Hudson kept Washington scoreless for two innings before an ugly five-run third inning. The Nationals piled on four more runs in the fourth, with three of them being charged to Hudson. He's lost three straight starts while posting a 7.20 ERA during that stretch, bumping his season ERA to 5.63 through 76.2 frames. Friday's performance was his shortest outing of the year and the most runs he's allowed in a start. Hudson's next matchup is expected to come on the road against the White Sox.

  • Padres' Fernando Tatis: Exits after HBP

Tatis was removed from Friday's game against the Brewers after being hit by a pitch on the elbow, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Tatis was plunked in the third inning, though he stayed in the contest for two more frames before being removed for a pinch hitter. The Padres should provide an update on his availability after the game.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Avoids serious injury

Gurriel did not require an X-ray on his elbow following Friday's game against the Phillies, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

Gurriel exited the contest in the seventh inning with elbow soreness, though manager Torey Lovullo said after the game that he doesn't anticipate that Gurriel will require a stint on the injured list. The outfielder's status for Saturday remains in question, however.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: X-rays come back clean

X-rays came back negative on Moreno's thumb following Friday's game against the Phillies, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

Moreno hurt his thumb on a slide early in Friday's contest but remained in the game long enough to tally his third homer of the season. He was ultimately pulled in the sixth inning. Manager Torey Lovullo noted after the contest that Moreno is likely to avoid the injured list, but the team will see how he is feeling Saturday before any final determination is made.

  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Montgomery: Earns third straight win

Montgomery (6-4) earned the win against the Phillies on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts over six innings.

Montgomery tossed two scoreless innings before surrendering a two-run home run to Trea Turner in the third. He responded with three straight scoreless innings and left the game with a 4-2 lead after throwing 83 pitches. Montgomery earned his third consecutive win while registering his first quality start in June, but he has not reached 90 pitches in an outing since May 19. On the season, Montgomery owns a 5.71 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB over 63 innings and lines up to face the Twins next week.

Walker allowed three home runs, including back-to-back homers by Gabriel Moreno and Joc Pederson in the third inning. Walker generated only four swings on 77 pitches, including just one whiff with his splitter. The right-hander has failed to record a win or quality start since May 11 and owns a 5.60 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 43:21 K:BB over 53 innings. He lines up to face the Tigers next week.

  • Paul Sewald RP | TOR

Tasked with preserving a 5-4 lead, Sewald needed just 11 pitches to secure his ninth save of the year. He owns a sparkling 0.66 ERA, 0.51 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB over 13.2 innings in 2024.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Diamondbacks' Joc Pederson: Homers, reaches three times in win

Pederson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a 5-4 win over the Phillies on Friday.

Pederson hit a solo home run in the third inning, singled in the fifth and walked in the seventh. Over his last 10 games, the veteran outfielder has gone 12-for-31 with three homers, 13 RBI and nine runs scored.
