  • Giants' Mike Yastrzemski: Dealing with swollen elbow

X-rays came back negative on Yastrzemski's elbow after he was hit by a pitch Thursday against Atlanta, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Yastrzemski was hit by a pitch in the elbow in the fourth inning and was pulled one frame later. He was diagnosed with a right elbow contusion and is considered day-to-day.

  • Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Exits Thursday against D-Backs

Heyward exited Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks with an undisclosed injury, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Heyward attempted to rob a home run in the first inning and appeared shaken up afterward. He remained in the game for an additional frame, before presumably being pulled due to an undisclosed injury he sustained from that play. Miguel Vargas entered in left field in his place.

  • Hector Neris RP | HOU

Cubs' Hector Neris: Continues to pitch better

Neris tossed a scoreless inning of relief in Thursday's 10-2 win over the Phillies. He allowed one hit and struck out two.

After a rough patch in the middle of June, Neris has now strung together four straight scoreless appearances. That's allowed the veteran reliever to lower his season ERA to a more respectable 4.11. Neris logged a stellar 1.71 ERA across 68.1 innings last year for the Astros, so there is potential for continued improvement in 2024. The better play has also likely kept him locked into the closer role for the time being.

  • Bobby Miller RP | LAD

Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Won't start on regular rest

Miller won't start Sunday against Milwaukee, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Miller would have been available on four days' rest to start Sunday, but the Dodgers will opt to give him at least two extra days to recover. He's struggled in three starts since returning from the injured list, posting a combined 7:9 K:BB with a 6.75 ERA and 1.73 WHIP.

  • Giants' Mike Yastrzemski: Leaves early Thursday

Yastrzemski exited Thursday's game against Atlanta after taking a pitch to the hip or back area, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Yastrzemski was hit by the pitch in the fourth inning and remained in the game for an additional frame. However, he was ultimately replaced by Luis Matos and should be considered day-to-day.

  • Robert Suarez RP | ATL

Padres' Robert Suarez: Collects 22nd save

Suarez allowed a walk during a scoreless inning of relief Thursday to pick up the save against the Rangers. He struck out one.

Suarez picked up the save for the second consecutive day, giving him 22 in 23 opportunities on the season. Suarez has not allowed a run in 32 of his 35 appearances, posting a season-long ERA of 1.02 with a 0.76 WHIP and 33 strikeouts over 35.1 innings.

  • Miguel Castro RP | CHW

Diamondbacks' Miguel Castro: Another rehab appearance

Castro (shoulder) threw 17 pitches in an appearance with Triple-A Reno on Wednesday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Castro will make another appearance Saturday, with the goal of throwing between 25 and 35 pitches. If that outing goes well, he could be activated for the start of Arizona's series against Atlanta on Monday.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Won't return when first eligible

Muncy (oblique) is still experiencing soreness and will not return when first eligible during the All-Star break, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Muncy is still swinging off a tee, but manager Dave Roberts described his progress as slow. He's first eligible to be activated during the All-Star break, which runs July 15-19, though it sounds as though his absence will extend into August.

  • Michael King SP | SD

Padres' Michael King: Picks up seventh win

King (7-5) picked up the win Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks against the Rangers. He struck out five.

King held the Rangers scoreless through five, then was removed after allowing two batters to reach base with one out in the sixth, eventually resulting in one earned run on his ledger. It's the sixth time in his last eight starts that King has allowed one earned run or fewer and his 10th such outing this season. Over his last eight starts, King has tossed 44 innings with a 2.45 ERA and 53 strikeouts. His next opportunity to toe the rubber is scheduled to come at home against the Mariners next week.

  • Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto: Nearing throwing program

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that Yamamoto (shoulder) has been working with a plyo ball and could resume throwing soon, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Yamamoto has made progress in his rehab and was described as pain-free Wednesday. Assuming that remains the case, he's expected to start playing catch again before the All-Star break, likely meaning he won't return before August.
