  • Jake Fraley RF | TB

Reds' Jake Fraley: Goes on family emergency list

The Reds placed Fraley on the family medical emergency list Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

By rule, Fraley will need to miss at least the next three days but no more than seven days while on the list. The Reds have Nick Martini and Will Benson in the corner outfield spots and Jeimer Candelario at designated hitter Friday against the Tigers.

  • Jared Jones SP | PIT

Pirates' Jared Jones: Diagnosed with Grade 2 lat strain

Jones will be shut down for two weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 2 right lat strain, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Jones will be re-evaluated after those two weeks before the next steps of his rehab are determined. The rookie right-hander suffered the injury during his last start Wednesday against the Cardinals and was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Given the ramp-up that will be required after the shutdown period, it seems safe to rule Jones out for at least the remainder of July.

  • Giants' Mike Yastrzemski: Absent from starting nine

Yastrzemski (elbow) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Guardians.

Yastrzemski was hit in the elbow by a pitch Thursday, and although his X-rays came back clean, he'll be given Friday off. Michael Conforto, Heliot Ramos and Luis Matos will fill the outfield from left to right.

  • Luis Ortiz RP | NYM

Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Shifts to 60-day IL

The Phillies transferred Ortiz (shoulder/ankle/forearm) to the 60-day injured list Friday, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Ortiz has been out virtually all season with injuries, first to his ankle and more recently to his shoulder and forearm. This transaction doesn't alter his timetable since he's eligible for activation at any time, but it's not clear when Ortiz might be ready to pitch again.

  • Yunior Marte RP | CIN

Phillies' Yunior Marte: Optioned to Triple-A

The Phillies optioned Marte to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Marte had pitched two of the last three days, so the Phillies are replacing him with a fresh bullpen arm. Tyler Phillips will take Marte's spot on the 26-man roster.

  • Mark Vientos 1B | NYM

    Mets' Mark Vientos: Getting breather

Vientos is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Pittsburgh.

After making 10 consecutive starts at third base, Vientos will take a seat for Friday's series opener. Jose Iglesias will bat seventh and play third base.

  • Nolan Gorman 3B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Out again versus lefty

Gorman is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.

It's the second straight day that Gorman will be on the bench as the opposition sends a left-hander -- in this case, Patrick Corbin -- to the hill. Brendan Donovan will play second base for the Cardinals.

  • Mets' Harrison Bader: Back in lineup

Bader is batting ninth and playing center field Friday against Pittsburgh.

Bader had missed back-to-back games with a head injury after colliding with the outfield wall Tuesday. However, he's recovered from the injury and will return to his regular spot in center field.

  • Marlins' Emmanuel Rivera: Getting breather

Rivera is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox.

Rivera had made four consecutive starts at third base, but he'll take a seat for Friday's series opener. In his stead, Jake Burger will play third base and bat sixth.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Not in Atlanta lineup

Murphy is not in the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Phillies.

Travis d'Arnaud will do the catching for Max Fried in the series opener. Murphy has a 1.050 OPS over his last 12 games and would seem to be a good bet to be in the lineup Saturday and Sunday.
