Reds' Spencer Steer: Homers in second straight game
Steer went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and an additional run in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Tigers.
Steer got the Reds on the board with a fifth-inning solo shot and later singled in a run in the ninth. It was the second straight game with a home run for Steer, who has 12 for the season and leads Cincinnati with 56 RBI.

Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN
Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Makes seventh straight start
Suarez started at third base and went 1-for-3 in Friday's 10-8 loss to the Padres.
Suarez, whose job was in jeopardy three weeks ago, has resumed his role as the team's everyday third baseman since the Diamondbacks sent Blaze Alexander back to Triple-A Reno. Suarez has started seven consecutive games and is 7-for-22 (.318) over that time, raising his season average above .200.

Kevin Newman 3B | LAA
Diamondbacks' Kevin Newman: Fills in at 2B
Newman replaced Ketel Marte (back) at second base after Marte was removed in the eighth inning from Friday's 10-8 loss to San Diego.
Newman entered as a pinch hitter earlier and stayed in the game at DH before taking over for Marte, who has been nursing a sore back. Marte told manager Torey Lovullo that he was unable to hit, per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. Marte is day-to-day, which means Newman will be at the ready to take over at second base for as long as needed.

Willy Adames SS | SF
Brewers' Willy Adames: Swipes bag in loss
Adames went 1-for-4 with one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Dodgers.
Adames is up to 11 steals on the year, but he hadn't attempted one in his previous 21 games. In that span, he hit just .192 with three home runs, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored. The shortstop has endured another challenging campaign with a .234/.321/.402 slash line, 13 homers, 57 RBI and 46 runs scored over 89 contests, but his lackluster hitting hasn't cost him a starting role.
-
Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE
Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: Slugs grand slam
Hoskins went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Dodgers.
Hoskins opened July in an 0-for-13 skid before the grand slam in his second at-bat Friday. The blast gave the Brewers a 5-2 lead, but they mustered just one hit after that. Hoskins is slashing .218/.311/.402 with 12 homers, 42 RBI, 27 runs scored and two stolen bases over 270 plate appearances this season.

Aaron Civale RP | CHC
Brewers' Aaron Civale: No-decision in Milwaukee debut
Civale allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out eight over five innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Friday.
Civale received a tough assignment in his first start as a Brewer, and he didn't do particularly well. Will Smith tagged him for two solo shots and Miguel Vargas added a two-run home run, though Civale exited the game in line for the win before the Brewers' bullpen blew the lead. The three homers allowed are a season high for the right-hander, and that could be a problem that crops up more since Milwaukee's American Family Field is more prone to homers than his old home park, Tropicana Field. Civale is at a 5.18 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 92:30 K:BB through 92 innings over 18 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Pirates.
-
Miguel Vargas 3B | CHW
Dodgers' Miguel Vargas: Goes yard in win
Vargas went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Friday's 8-5 win over the Brewers.
Vargas has two multi-hit efforts over nine games since he was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City on June 17. In that span, he's gone 9-for-22 (.409) with four RBI. The 24-year-old is slashing .333/.396/.571 with two homers, eight RBI, nine runs scored, four doubles and a stolen base over 48 plate appearances this season. Vargas could see an uptick in playing time due to Jason Heyward (knee) landing on the injured list, which could force Teoscar Hernandez to play right field on a full-time basis in the short term.
-
Will Smith C | LAD
Dodgers' Will Smith: Pummels three homers
Smith went 3-for-3 with three solo home runs, two walks and four total runs scored in Friday's 8-5 win over the Brewers.
Smith hit just two homers in June, so he's already off to a fantastic start in July. The catcher went to the opposite field for his first-inning blast before pulling his solo shots in the third and seventh innings. Smith is up to a .276/.349/.502 slash line with 14 homers, 53 RBI, 45 runs scored, 18 doubles and one triple over 73 contests this season.
-
Evan Phillips RP | LAD
Dodgers' Evan Phillips: Locks down 14th save
Phillips struck out the side to earn the save in Friday's 8-5 win over the Brewers.
Phillips needed just 12 pitches (nine strikes) to set the Brewers down in order to protect a three-run lead. It's an encouraging sign, as he had allowed a run in each of his last two outings. Phillips is up to 14 saves and one hold through 26.2 innings this season, and he's maintained a strong 2.03 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB.
-
Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD
Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow: Second straight poor start
Glasnow allowed five runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision versus the Brewers on Friday.
All of the damage came in the fourth inning between a Willy Adames RBI single and a Rhys Hoskins grand slam. Glasnow has allowed five runs in back-to-back starts, though he's avoided the loss in both of those outings. For the season, he has a 3.47 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 143:29 K:BB through 109 innings over 18 starts. He's projected to make his next start at Detroit rather than Philadelphia due to the Dodgers inserting Justin Wrobleski into the rotation for a spot start Sunday.
