Brewers' DL Hall: Resuming rehab assignment

Hall (knee/forearm) will head to Triple-A Nashville on Sunday to resume his rehab assignment, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.

While it's unclear if Hall is scheduled to pitch Sunday in Nashville's game against Norfolk, the right-hander at least isn't being shut down from throwing any longer after his rehab assignment was extended when he was hit in the left forearm by a comebacker in his last outing July 9. Though Hall has yet to cover more than three innings in any of his nine outings between his first two separate minor-league rehab assignments, general manager Matt Arnold said last Sunday that the southpaw will get stretched back out to start as he resumes pitching with Nashville. Hall had previously made all four of his appearances with Milwaukee as a starter before landing on the injured list April 21 with a left knee sprain.

  • Joel Kuhnel RP | SF

Brewers' Joel Kuhnel: Dropped from 40-man roster

The Brewers designated Kuhnel for assignment Sunday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Though Kuhnel has a minor-league option remaining, the Brewers opted to move him off their 40-man roster to open up a spot in the bullpen for lefty Jared Koenig (elbow), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Kuhnel has now been DFA'd by the Brewers on two occasions since he signed a minor-league deal with the organization in June. He didn't make any appearances out of the Milwaukee bullpen after being called up from Triple-A Nashville last Sunday.

  • Jared Koenig RP | MIL

Brewers' Jared Koenig: Comes off IL

The Brewers reinstated Koenig (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Sunday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Reliever Joel Kuhnel was designated for assignment to make room in the bullpen and on the 26-man roster for Koenig, who landed on the IL on June 29 with left elbow tendinitis. The 30-year-old southpaw had been a dependable relief arm for Milwaukee prior to being deactivated, turning in a 1.66 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB over 38 innings.

  • Brewers' Christian Yelich: Not in Sunday's lineup

Yelich is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Yelich went 0-for-5 with a strikeout and an RBI during Saturday's 12-inning victory and will take a seat for the series finale in Minnesota. Jackson Chourio, Garrett Mitchell and Sal Frelick will start across the outfield Sunday for Milwaukee while William Contreras rests his legs as the designated hitter.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Extends multi-hit streak

Tovar went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in Saturday's win over the Giants.

Tovar singled and scored in his first trip to the plate before adding a two-run shot in the fifth to put Colorado on top 4-2. It marked the shortstop's fifth consecutive multi-hit performance and his third game in a row with at least one home run. Tovar has also hit safely in eight consecutive games, batting .441 (15-for-34) over that stretch with four homers, four doubles, nine RBI and seven runs scored.

  • Victor Vodnik RP | MIA

Rockies' Victor Vodnik: Secures third save

Vodnik picked up the save over the Giants on Saturday, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out one.

Vodnik was tasked with protecting a one-run lead in the top of the ninth, and the right-hander did not disappoint, going 1-2-3 through the middle of San Francisco's lineup to secure his third save of the campaign. Vodnik has now converted each of his three save opportunities this month after blowing two save chances in the latter part of June. He's also posted at least one strikeout in 12 straight appearances.

  • Logan Webb SP | SF

Giants' Logan Webb: Command issues in loss

Webb (7-8) took the loss against the Rockies on Saturday, allowing four runs on eight hits and four walks over six innings. He struck out four.

Webb got off to a rough start, allowing four of the first five batters to reach, leading to two runs coming home for Colorado. He then held the Rockies scoreless over the next three frames before surrendering a two-run shot to Ezequiel Tovar in the fifth, marking the third straight outing in which the right-hander has given up at least seven hits. Webb also issued a season-high four walks Saturday and has now allowed multiple runs in nine consecutive starts. Additionally, he's lost three of his last four decisions (spanning five starts).

  • Diamondbacks' Gino Groover: Returns from 60-day IL

High-A Hillsboro reinstated Groover (wrist) from its 60-day injured list Friday.

Groover has played in both of Hillsboro's first two games out of the All-Star break, going 2-for-9 with a double and a walk to bring his slash line to .320/.393/.360 through his first seven contests at the High-A level this season. The 22-year-old third baseman had been on the shelf since April 11 with a broken left wrist that required surgery.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Nabs second straight win

Freeland (1-2) picked up the win over the Giants on Saturday, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk over six innings while striking out four.

Freeland hurled two scoreless frames to open the contest before allowing runs in three of his last four innings of work, including a solo homer off the bat of Tyler Fitzgerald in the third. However, the lefty was still able to log his fifth consecutive quality start en route to securing his second straight win. Freeland has been terrific since returning from the injured list roughly one month ago, holding his opponents to two or fewer runs in all five outings while posting a 25:6 K:BB.

  • Corbin Carroll RF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: Idle against lefty

Carroll is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

The lefty-hitting Carroll has now taken a seat in two of Arizona's last three matchups against left-handed pitchers, as he'll exit the lineup for the finale in Chicago while southpaw Shota Imanaga takes the hill for the Cubs. Randal Grichuk will check in for Carroll in right field and will bat second.
