Alek Thomas CF | LAD
Diamondbacks' Alek Thomas: Idle against lefty
Thomas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
Thomas will join fellow left-handed-hitting regulars Corbin Carroll and Joc Pederson on the bench as the Cubs send southpaw Shota Imanaga to the hill. Jake McCarthy will fill in for Thomas in center field.
-
Gabriel Moreno C | ARI
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Getting rest Sunday
Moreno is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
Moreno looks to be getting some routine maintenance for the Sunday afternoon contest after he had logged starts behind the dish Friday and Saturday. Jose Herrera will handle the catching duties for Arizona in the series finale.
-
Joc Pederson DH | TEX
Diamondbacks' Joc Pederson: Sitting against lefty
Pederson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
The lefty-hitting Pederson will retreat to the bench for the series finale while the Cubs send southpaw Shota Imanaga to the hill. Ketel Marte will get a day out of the infield and will replace Pederson as the Diamondbacks' designated hitter.
-
Jack Suwinski RF | TB
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Idle against righty
Suwinski is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.
The lefty-hitting Suwinski was on the bench for Saturday's 4-1 win while the Phillies sent southpaw Cristopher Sanchez to the hill, but Suwinski's absence from the lineup Sunday against Philadelphia right-hander Tyler Phillips comes as more of a surprise. Connor Joe will draw a start in the outfield in place of Suwinski, who has gone 1-for-16 with three walks and four strikeouts over his last six contests.
-
Cristian Pache LF | NYM
Phillies' Cristian Pache: Captures short-side platoon role
Pache will start in center field and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Pirates.
Even though both he and Johan Rojas are right-handed hitters, Pache appears to have taken hold of the short side of a platoon in center field. Pache will be included in the lineup for the Phillies' third straight matchup with a lefty (Marco Gonzales) while Rojas sits.
-
Johan Rojas CF | PHI
Phillies' Johan Rojas: On bench against lefty
Rojas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.
Even though he's a right-handed hitter, Rojas finds himself out of the lineup for the Phillies' third straight matchup with a left-handed starting pitcher (Marco Gonzales). Rojas has still been included in the starting nine for each of the Phillies' last three matchups versus right-handed pitching, so he still looks to have a grasp on primary duties in center field. Rojas has produced a meager .566 OPS since returning from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in late June, but the Phillies lack appealing alternatives and appear to value his defense and speed enough to continue to carve out regular playing time for him.

Matt Chapman 3B | SF
Giants' Matt Chapman: Notches 10th steal
Chapman went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Rockies.
The steal was Chapman's 10th of the year, matching his total from the previous five campaigns combined. He's logged three of those thefts in July despite hitting just .180 (9-for-50) over his first 14 games of the month. The third baseman is slashing .234/.320/.409 with 13 homers, 43 RBI, 65 runs scored and 25 doubles through 96 contests overall.
-
Brandon Marsh LF | PHI
Phillies' Brandon Marsh: Hitting bench against lefty
Marsh is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.
Marsh and fellow left-handed-hitting regular Bryson Stott will take a seat for the series finale while the Pirates send southpaw Marco Gonzales to the hill. With Marsh on the bench, Weston Wilson will get the nod in left field.
-
Bryson Stott 2B | PHI
Phillies' Bryson Stott: Sitting versus southpaw
Stott is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.
Lefty Marco Gonzales is pitching Sunday for Pittsburgh, so Stott will head to the bench for the second time in the series. Edmundo Sosa will start at the keystone and bat sixth for Philadelphia in the finale.
-
J.T. Realmuto C | PHI
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Getting rest Sunday
Realmuto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.
After going 1-for-3 with a walk while logging eight innings behind the plate in Saturday's 4-1 loss in his return from the 10-day injured list, Realmuto will get some maintenance in the series finale in Pittsburgh. Garrett Stubbs will receive the start at catcher Sunday, but Realmuto should see the overwhelming share of work now that he's recovered from right knee surgery, which kept him on the shelf for nearly a month and a half.
