  • James Wood RF | WAS

Nationals' James Wood: Best game of young career

Wood went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 14-3 win over the Cardinals.

Wood entered Saturday 0-for-15 with eight strikeouts and one walk over his last four games. He made up for the slump throughout this contest, producing the first four-hit game of his career. The outfield prospect lifted his batting average to .235 with a .650 OPS, two home runs, three doubles, 15 RBI, nine runs scored and two stolen bases through 22 contests overall. Wood still has some learning to do on the job, as evidenced by a 35.1 percent strikeout rate, but he's also shown promise while playing on an everyday basis since coming up to the majors at the start of July.

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Clubs three-run homer

Ruiz went 1-for-6 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 14-3 win over the Nationals.

Ruiz didn't have much success Saturday, but he took Matthew Liberatore deep in the sixth inning to turn this game into a rout in favor of Washington. This was Ruiz's fourth homer in July, and he's batting .261 (18-for-69) this month, though he hasn't posted a multi-hit effort since July 8. The catcher has a .217/.250/.337 slash line, eight homers, 33 RBI, 26 runs scored and one stolen base over 77 contests this season.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Continues to shine

Ohtani went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional run, an additional RBI, two walks and a stolen base Saturday in a loss to the Astros.

Ohtani belted another moonshot in the loss, going 443 feet to right field in the third inning. The NL MVP candidate added a run-scoring single in the sixth and reached base four times in total. Ohtani also swiped his 26th base in the contest, tying the career-high mark he established in that category in 2021. The Japanese superstar leads the National League with a .318 batting average and 32 home runs, ranks second with 76 RBI and is in fourth place with 26 steals through 103 games.

  • Jake Irvin SP | WAS

Nationals' Jake Irvin: Picks up eighth win

Irvin (8-8) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five over 5.1 innings to earn the win over the Cardinals on Saturday.

The two runs on his line came on a Willson Contreras home run in the sixth inning, but the Nationals had already established a large lead. Irvin has allowed four runs over 12.1 innings across two starts since the All-Star break after struggling in his last two outings prior to the intermission. He's now at a 3.44 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 111:30 K:BB through 128.1 innings over 22 starts this season. Irvin's next outing is projected to be at home versus the Brewers.

  • Dodgers' Justin Wrobleski: Solid outing gets spoiled

Wrobleski allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Houston on Saturday.

Wrobleski cruised through five frames, holding the Astros scoreless on two hits. He then allowed consecutive singles to begin the sixth but rebounded to retire the next pair of batters before Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts decided to pull the southpaw after a modest 82 pitches. That decision didn't work out well for the Dodgers, as Evan Phillips came in and surrendered four consecutive singles, allowing both inherited runners plus two more to score. Wrobleski later lost the opportunity for his first big-league victory when Houston put up two runs in the eighth frame. Despite the disappointing outcome for the rookie, his start was promising overall, as he tossed a career-high 5.2 frames and came within one out of a quality start. With James Paxton's recent release, Wrobleski has a good chance of sticking in the rotation even when Walker Buehler (hip) returns from the injured list.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: Homers in second straight game

Hoskins went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday.

Hoskins plated all three of the runs Milwaukee scored against Miami starter Max Meyer with a three-run blast in the fourth inning. It was the second straight game with a long ball for the veteran first baseman, and Saturday's homer was his sixth over his past 14 contests. The surge has pushed Hoskins to 17 home runs on the campaign, and he's now three long balls away from reaching 20 for the fifth time in his career.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Notches two thefts Saturday

Edwards went 0-for-3 with a walk and a pair of stolen bases in Saturday's 7-3 victory versus Milwaukee.

Though he didn't get a hit in the contest, Edwards had a productive performance from a fantasy perspective with the pair of thefts. His ninth-inning walk extended his on-base streak to 14 games, during which the shortstop is batting .404 (19-for-47) with eight stolen bases and a 10:9 BB:K. Despite his lack of power, Edwards has been a solid fantasy pickup due to his speed and ability to rack up hits.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Marlins' Josh Bell: Goes deep again Saturday

Bell went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, a double and a walk in a 7-3 win against the Brewers on Saturday.

Bell busted the game open for Miami with a three-run blast in the seventh inning that gave the team a four-run lead. It was the veteran slugger's fourth straight game with a long ball and his fifth consecutive contest with multiple hits. Over the latter span, Bell is batting a robust .476 (10-for-21) with four home runs and seven RBI.

  • Aaron Civale RP | CHC

Brewers' Aaron Civale: Settles for no-decision Saturday

Civale allowed two runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out three batters over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against Miami on Saturday.

Civale gave up a pair of runs in the second frame but otherwise kept the Marlins off the scoreboard. He departed with a one-run lead in the sixth inning but was prevented from picking up a win as a result of the Brewers' bullpen imploding in the seventh. Civale has now gone 18 straight outings since his last victory, and he has posted a 5.74 ERA over 91 frames during that span.

  • Michael Toglia 1B | CIN

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Blasts 17th home run

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and two strikeouts in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Giants.

Toglia launched his first long ball since his three-homer game July 14, and he extended his hitting streak to five games in the process. Toglia has been on a tear since the middle of June with a .884 OPS in his last 37 games. The 25-year-old's 13 homers since June 15 trail only Shohei Ohtani and Anthony Santander for the most in MLB in that span.
