  • Nolan Jones LF | SEA

Rockies' Nolan Jones: Returns from IL

The Rockies reinstated Jones (back) from the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Jones was placed on the injured list just before the All-Star break due to a low-back strain. He was sent out on an extended rehab assignment prior to being activated, playing in 13 games between Single-A Fresno and Triple-A Albuquerque while slashing .333/.455/.733 with four home runs and 14 RBI. Jones should regain a regular spot in the Colorado outfield against right-handed pitching, likely forming a platoon with the righty-hitting Jordan Beck. To make room on the 26-man roster for Jones, Colorado optioned Hunter Goodman to Albuquerque.

  • Tyler Black 2B | MIL

Brewers' Tyler Black: Absent from lineup again

Black is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's contest against the Guardians.

Since being recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Monday, Black has gone 1-for-11 over his four major-league appearances. He'll begin Sunday's contest in the dugout while William Contreras serves as the designated hitter for Sunday's series finale.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Slated for CT scan

Freeman will get a CT scan on his middle finger Monday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Freeman jammed his middle finger in Saturday's game against the Cardinals. While X-rays after contest came back negative, manager Dave Roberts told reporters Sunday that Freeman's finger is bad enough that the 34-year-old first baseman cannot grip a bat, per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports. The silver lining for the Dodgers is that Max Muncy (oblique) is expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list Monday, and he would provide depth at first base alongside Enrique Hernandez if Freeman were to be sidelined for an extended period of time.

  • Dodgers' Brent Honeywell: Cast off 40-man roster

The Dodgers designated Honeywell for assignment Sunday.

Honeywell was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on July 13 after being DFA'd by the Pirates one day earlier. In his 10 outings with the Dodgers, Honeywell picked up one save while logging a 2.21 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 20.1 innings. The 29-year-old could garner some interest on the waiver wire from a team in need of right-handed depth out of the bullpen. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers selected the contract of right-hander Ben Casparius from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

  • Dodgers' Ben Casparius: Gets first big-league call-up

The Dodgers selected Casparius' contract from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday.

Los Angeles designated right-hander Brent Honeywell for assignment in a corresponding move to clear room on the 40-man roster and the 26-man active roster for Casparius. After getting moved up from Double-A Tulsa to Oklahoma City in May, Casparius made 13 starts at the Triple-A level, logging a 3.54 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 61:29 K:BB across 56 innings. The 25-year-old right-hander will likely operate as a long reliever for the Dodgers, though he could get a look in the rotation if incumbent No. 5 starter Bobby Miller continues to struggle while filling in for the injured Tyler Glasnow (elbow).

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Absent from lineup

Hayes is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against Seattle.

Hayes has gone 0-for-12 with five strikeouts over his last three games. He'll begin Sunday's contest in the dugout while Jared Triolo starts at third base and bats ninth.

  • Alec Burleson 1B | STL

Cardinals' Alec Burleson: Three hits, stolen base in win

Burleson went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, two runs scored and a stolen base in Saturday's win over the Dodgers.

Burleson singled and stole second in his first trip to the plate before coming home on a knock from Willson Contreras as the Cardinals tied the game at 1-1. The outfielder then launched a two-run shot off Bobby Miller in the third to put St. Louis on top and went on to reach three times in the contest. It marked the eighth three-hit effort of the campaign for Burleson and the second in his last five starts. For the month he's batting .255 (13-for-51) with three homers, seven RBI and nine runs scored.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Sitting Sunday

Freeman (finger) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Freeman left in the sixth inning of Saturday's game against St. Louis after jamming the middle finger on his right hand while fielding a groundball. X-rays came back negative following the contest, but he will sit out the series finale. Enrique Hernandez will start at first base and bat seventh against Cardinals ace Sonny Gray.

  • Braves' Whit Merrifield: Homer, stolen base in win

Merrifield went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and a stolen base in Saturday's win over the Angels.

Merrifield swiped his 15th bag of the season in the second inning after reaching on a fielder's choice and then went on to score Atlanta's fourth run of the contest on a single from Michael Harris. The second baseman would later spark a five-run inning with a leadoff homer in the fifth, marking his first long ball since June 8 against the Mets. Merrifield has now hit safely in three of his last four games and has scored at least one run in three of his last five.

  • Mets' Harrison Bader: Out of Sunday's lineup

Bader is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Bader has a .599 OPS through 14 games in August and will take a seat for Sunday's contest. Tyrone Taylor is starting in center field and batting eighth in the series finale versus Miami.
