  • Jake Burger 1B | TEX

Marlins' Jake Burger: Notches homer, swipes bag in loss

Burger went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and a stolen base in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Burger helped the Marlins take an early lead with his two-run blast off Arizona starter Jordan Montgomery in the first inning. The long ball was his 10th through 19 contests in what has been a big August for the slugger. Burger is up to 25 home runs on the campaign as he closes in on the 30-homer mark for the second straight season.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Swats second homer

Perdomo went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional run and a double in Wednesday's 10-8 win against Miami.

Perdomo entered Wednesday with just one homer through 63 games, but he displayed some unexpected power to provide an insurance run with a solo blast in the eighth inning. The long ball was the infielder's first extra-base hit of any sort over his past 10 games, though he's been reaching base consistently of late with six hits and three walks across his past 20 plate appearances. Perdomo's overall .281 batting average on the campaign is on pace for a career-best mark.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Plates four runs off bench

Gurriel went 2-for-2 with a double, a stolen base and four RBI in Wednesday's 10-8 win over the Marlins.

Gurriel began the game on the bench but still made a huge impact for Arizona's offense. He entered as a pinch hitter with the bases loaded in the seventh inning and smashed a bases-clearing double to give the Diamondbacks a one-run lead. Gurriel then provided an insurance run in the ninth with a run-scoring single. He's been swinging a hot bat of late, collecting at least one hit in six of his past seven games and notching four multi-hit efforts while batting .400 (10-for-25) with four RBI over that stretch.

  • Roddery Munoz RP | HOU

Marlins' Roddery Munoz: Lasts just 3.1 frames vs. Arizona

Munoz allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three batters over 3.1 innings in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Munoz struggled with his control in the outing, throwing just 40 of 73 pitches for strikes. The right-hander lasted exactly 3.1 innings for the second consecutive start and has failed to get out of the fourth frame in three of his past four appearances. Walks have been a big issue for Munoz of late -- he's issued exactly three free passes in each of those three short outings. His 4.5 BB/9 is sixth worst among MLB hurlers who have thrown at least 70 innings this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Goes 1.2 frames for fifth save

Martinez earned a save against the Marlins on Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out four batters over 1.2 innings.

Martinez was called upon in the eighth inning with the Diamondbacks clinging to a one-run lead and the tying run on second base with one out. He struck out Xavier Edwards and got Geraldo Perdomo to fly out to escape the threat, then returned in the bottom of the ninth after Arizona put up two runs in the top half of the frame. Martinez made things interesting by surrendering a run and allowing the tying run to get to second base on a two-out wild pitch, but the rookie closer ultimately slammed the door with a game-ending strikeout. He's notched a save on consecutive days for the first time in his big-league career and remains the team's top option for save chances with Paul Sewald at least temporarily moved out of the closer role.

  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Montgomery: Serves up six runs against Marlins

Montgomery allowed six runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out four batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Miami on Wednesday.

Most of the damage against Montgomery came in the fourth inning, when the Marlins pounded out four runs on five hits, including three extra-base knocks. The southpaw at least managed to hang around nearly two additional frames to reduce the burden on Arizona's bullpen, but the 10 total hits he allowed tied a season-worst mark. Montgomery has been prone to blow-ups this season, yielding at least six earned runs on six different occasions. That's a big reason why his ERA sits at an unsightly 6.44 through 95 innings.

  • Erik Miller RP | BOS

Giants' Erik Miller: Takes fourth loss

Miller (3-4) allowed three runs on a hit and two walks while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning to take the loss Wednesday versus the White Sox.

Miller loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning, and Spencer Bivens allowed all three of those runners to score. That left Miller with his first loss since July 22. The southpaw has allowed eight runs over 12 innings since the All-Star break, adding an 18:10 K:BB in that span. He's now at a 3.93 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 66:32 K:BB with 12 holds and three blown saves over 55 innings this season. He's earned just one hold since the start of July, so he's not currently in the mix for steady high-leverage chances.

  • Padres' Jackson Merrill: Goes deep in loss

Merrill went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Twins on Wednesday.

Merrill's two-run blast in the eighth inning didn't have much of an impact on the outcome of the contest, as San Diego still trailed by six runs after the long ball. However, it snapped an eight-game homerless stretch for the rookie and pushed him to 18 home runs and 71 RBI on the campaign. Merrill is working on a modest six-game hitting streak during which he's batting .375 (9-for-24) with five extra-base hits and seven RBI.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Four hits, steal in loss

Chourio went 4-for-5 with a triple, two RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Wednesday's 10-6 extra-inning loss to the Cardinals.

Chourio came into Wednesday's game 0-for-10 over his last three games. He broke out in a big way as one of three Brewers with multiple hits in the contests. Chourio is batting .324 (24-for-74) in August with six extra-base hits and six steals over 18 contests for the month. He's up to a .274/.319/.442 slash line, 15 home runs, 18 steals, 55 RBI, 59 runs scored, 17 doubles and two triples through 421 plate appearances this season.

  • Donovan Solano 1B | TEX

Padres' Donovan Solano: Swats homer in loss

Solano went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Twins.

Solano entered as a pinch hitter for Jurickson Profar in the fifth inning after the Twins built a 10-0 lead and homered to put the Padres on the board. He's been effective in a reserve role for San Diego this season, slashing .309/.360/.440 with six home runs, 28 RBI, 25 runs and a stolen base over 225 plate appearances.
