Mitchell is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Lefty Jordan Montgomery is on the bump for Arizona, so the lefty-hitting Mitchell will retreat to the bench for the series finale. Blake Perkins will cover center field in Mitchell's stead.

Conforto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Conforto will get a breather for the series finale after going 7-for-21 with two home runs, five RBI and three runs while starting in each of the Giants' last five games. Jerar Encarnacion will fill in for Conforto as San Francisco's designated hitter.

Schmitt is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Schmitt made three consecutive starts at third base after being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento earlier in the week, but he'll likely shift back into a utility role moving forward after Matt Chapman returned from the paternity list Saturday. Over his multiple stints with the Giants this season, Schmitt has slashed .237/.257/.433 across 101 plate appearances.

Walton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Walton had started in five of the Giants' previous six games, but he'll give way to Brett Wisely at the keystone Sunday. Since being called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Sept. 13, Walton has gone 2-for-20 with two walks against seven strikeouts.

Lopez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Lopez will hit the bench for the first time since Aug. 3, with his move to the bench coming after he saw his seven-game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-for-4 showing in Saturday's 6-2 loss. Vidal Brujan will fill in for Lopez at the keystone.

Merrifield is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

He'll hit the bench for the third game in a row, with his exit from the lineup corresponding with top second baseman Ozzie Albies' return from the 10-day injured list. With Albies entrenched at the keystone and with Atlanta satisfied with how Gio Urshela and Ramon Laureano are performing as their primary starters at third base and in left field, respectively, Merrifield doesn't have an avenue to everyday at-bats.

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

D'Arnaud and Sean Murphy have been alternating turns behind the plate since the former returned from the paternity list Sept. 12. After d'Arnaud started at catcher and went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in Saturday's 6-2 win, Murphy will enter the lineup Sunday.

Arraez is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

He will get a rare day off against a righty (Sean Burke) as Fernando Tatis takes over at designated hitter, opening up right field for David Peralta. Arraez has gone just 1-for-15 in his last three games after hitting safely in 13 straight contests to begin September.

Doyle (knee) remains out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Doyle will hit the bench for a third straight game while he contends with soreness in his left knee. At this point, the Rockies haven't hinted that Doyle has been shut down for the season, so he can be viewed as day-to-day heading into the final week of the season. Doyle has been one of the team's few bright spots with 22 home runs and 29 steals on the season.

Hayes (back) is not expected to return before the end of the 2024 season, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Assistant general manager Kevan Graves effectively closed the door on a return for Hayes, saying Sunday that he "wouldn't anticipate seeing [Hayes] competing on the field before the end of the season here," and adding that "it's just too short of a window." Hayes has been on the shelf since mid-August, and he took a massive step backward on the field this season, slashing just .233/.283/.290 across 396 plate appearances.
