Peterson (1-0) picked up the win after giving up two runs on five hits and three walks in six innings Monday against Miami. He struck out nine.

After allowing a solo home run to Otto Lopez in the first inning, Peterson settled in thereafter while receiving plenty of run support. Eric Wagaman did tag Peterson for another solo shot in the sixth frame, but it was an otherwise strong season debut overall for the southpaw. Peterson's next start is tentatively scheduled to come this weekend at home against Toronto.

The Reds announced that X-rays on Encarnacion-Strand's right hand came back negative after he exited Monday's game against the Rangers in the top of the seventh inning, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports.

Encarnacion-Strand was pulled from the contest after being hit by a pitch on the hand in the bottom of the sixth inning, but he checked out OK after undergoing further testing. The club will presumably check on the first baseman early Tuesday before determining whether he can be penciled into the starting lineup for the second game of the series.

Soroka left Monday's start against the Blue Jays with an apparent right hand injury, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. He allowed four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three over five innings prior to departing.

Soroka appeared to be in discomfort after missing badly on his 83rd pitch of the night, and he walked off with the team trainer shortly after. He'll likely be taken to the clubhouse for further evaluation and can be considered day-to-day until the team has more news to share.

Encarnacion-Strand left Monday's game against the Rangers after being hit by a pitch on his right hand, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports.

Encarnacion-Strand is presumably headed for further testing to determine the extent of his injury, though this move could also be precautionary considering the Reds were out to a comfortable 12-0 lead. He went 0-for-2 with one walk, one run scored and one hit-by-pitch before being lifted. Jeimer Candelario will shift to first base and Santiago Espinal will enter the game at the hot corner following Encarnacion-Strand's removal.

Acuna (knee) has not yet been cleared for outfield work or any cutting drills, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Manager Brian Snitker noted Monday that the club will evaluate the leadoff spot on a day-to-day basis after news broke earlier that Jurickson Profar had been handed an 80-game suspension by MLB for violating the performance-enhancing drug policy, and the skipper took this opportunity to give a brief update on Acuna, who would presumably slot in to the leadoff spot once given a clean bill of health. The 27-year-old is still expected to make his return to the field sometime in May, though a more exact timetable for his return should surface once he embarks on a rehab assignment.

Contreras went 0-for-3 with one walk and two strikeouts in Monday's 11-1 loss to the Royals.

Contreras struck out swinging in his first two plate appearances but managed to draw a walk in the eighth inning. The Brewers have struggled offensively through the first four games of the season outside of their nine-run effort in a loss to the Yankees on Saturday, and Contreras has started the year 2-for-14 with one walk, one run and five strikeouts.

Busch is starting at first base and batting fourth in Monday's game against the Athletics.

After getting a day off Sunday against a southpaw, Busch slots back in as the Cubs' cleanup hitter. The 27-year-old is off to a mediocre start, as he's gone 4-for-21 with no extra-base hits or RBI through six contests, though he should see ample opportunities against righties to begin delivering some counting stats soon.

The Pirates transferred Jones (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.

This move won't affect Jones' timetable for a return, as he recently began a six-week no-throw program and is unlikely to be ready to make his season debut until at least June while he recovers from a UCL sprain in his right elbow. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Alexander Canario, who was acquired from the Mets on Monday in exchange for cash considerations.

Hernandez will start at first base and bat eighth Monday against Atlanta, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Hernandez is in line for his first start since the Tokyo Series against the Cubs, and it'll come as a result of an ankle injury to Freddie Freeman. Hernandez figures to be the likely candidate to fill in at first base until Freeman is cleared for play, though given the Dodgers' extensive depth, Muncy could also get a look at first, meaning Hernandez or Chris Taylor would presumably bump over to the hot corner.

Freeman is absent from Monday's lineup against Atlanta due to a sore right ankle, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Freeman had a "mishap" while showering Saturday night according to manager Dave Roberts, resulting in an apparent aggravation of his formerly sprained right ankle, which hasn't completely healed yet. The first baseman is dealing with some swelling, so Los Angeles opted to rest him Monday. Freeman can be considered day-to-day for the time being, while Enrique Hernandez will handle first base in the series opener with Atlanta.
