Gurriel is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Gurriel will sit for just the second time in 13 games as the Diamondbacks give him some time to clear his head following an 0-for-15 stretch at the plate over the past four contests. The Diamondbacks will roll out an outfield of Jake McCarthy, Alek Thomas and Corbin Carroll from left to right in the series finale.

Moreno is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Jose Herrera will get the nod behind the dish for the day game after Moreno started the first two contests of the series. Moreno is hitting a respectable .267 so far this season, but he hasn't supplemented the batting average with useful counting statistics (five runs, one RBI in 11 games).

Atlanta optioned Thompson to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Thompson is clearing out to make room on the roster for Rafael Montero, who is officially active Wednesday after being acquired via trade from Houston. The 31-year-old Thompson was with the big club for a week but didn't make an appearance.

Lockridge will start in center field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Lockridge will man center for the third game in a row and could end up getting a look as a full-time player in the San Diego outfield while Jackson Merrill (hamstring) is on the shelf. The Padres lack any other natural center fielders on the active roster, and Tirso Ornelas -- who's currently playing at Triple-A El Paso -- is the only other healthy option on the 40-man roster that might be viewed as a potential replacement option for Merrill. Lockridge has posted a modest .633 OPS over 21 plate appearances so far this season but he showcased excellent on-base skills (.410 OBP) and elite speed (46 steals in 52 attempts) between his two Triple-A stops in 2024.

Diaz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Diaz will take a seat for the second day in a row while he's gotten off to a rough start to the 2025 season with a .208/.296/.208 slash line over eight games. The Padres will give Martin Maldonado another turn behind the dish Wednesday, though Diaz is still presumably viewed as the club's No. 1 backstop.

Cronenworth (ribs) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

As anticipated, Cronenworth will be on the bench for the day game after he exited Tuesday night's 10-4 loss to the Athletics before the bottom of the third inning due to cramping on the right side of his ribs. Per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, the injury is related to the contusion that Cronenworth suffered on his ribs after being hit by a pitch Sunday. With an off day looming Thursday, the Padres will err on the side of caution and hold Cronenworth out for the series finale, but the 31-year-old infielder expressed optimism that he would be ready to rejoin the lineup Friday against the Rockies.

Tatis (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Tatis exited prior to the bottom of the fifth inning of Tuesday's 10-4 loss due to discomfort in his left shoulder -- the same one he had surgically repaired late in the 2022 season. Per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, Tatis said after the game that he doesn't believe the injury is anything that will linger or force him to the injured list, but he'll get at least one game off. The Padres have an off day Thursday, giving Tatis some added time to heal before the team opens a three-game series with the Rockies on Friday.

Kelly is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

Kelly will get some rest for the day game after a night game, allowing Miguel Amaya to receive a turn behind the plate. The veteran backstop has gotten off to a red-hot start to the 2025 season, slashing .333/.500/.762 with an 8:3 BB:K over 30 plate appearances.

Trevino is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in San Francisco.

Trevino started each of the first two games of the series but will grab a seat for Wednesday's finale. Austin Wynns will do the catching and bat ninth for the Reds.

Candelario is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in San Francisco.

Candelario is hitless over his last four games and is batting just .140 on the season, so he will get a day off to regroup. Santiago Espinal will cover third base and bat second for the Reds on Wednesday.
