Tena is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.

Tena appears to be occupying the strong side of a platoon at third base with the right-handed-hitting Amed Rosario, who will get the start Wednesday while the Guardians send southpaw Logan Allen to the hill. Since Paul DeJong (orbital) went on the injured list April 16 to open up playing time at the hot corner, Tena is slashing .235/.264/.333 with zero home runs and stolen bases and seven RBI over 15 games.

Bell is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Guardians.

Bell returned to action in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader after missing the previous four contests with a groin issue. While Bell seems to be healthy now, the Nationals are going with James Wood at designated hitter and Alex Call in left field for Wednesday's series finale.

Peguero went 1-for-3 against the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Peguero was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday but had not appeared in a game in any capacity until Tuesday. He's likely to continue to back up Adam Frazier and Jared Triolo at second base and shortstop, respectively.

The Nationals optioned Brzykcy to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.

Brzykcy will return to the minors after he was summoned from Rochester to serve as the Nationals' 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with the Guardians. The righty reliever pitched the final inning of the Nationals' 9-1 loss in Game 2, giving up one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out a batter.

The Nationals reinstated Soroka (biceps) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Guardians in Washington.

Washington optioned reliever Eduardo Salazar to Triple-A Rochester to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for Soroka, who made just one start for the Nationals before landing on the shelf in early April with a right biceps strain. The right-hander began a rehab assignment April 22 and made three starts in the minors, most recently striking out 11 over five innings of one-run ball for Rochester last Friday. Soroka tossed 94 pitches in that outing, so he should be able to handle a traditional starter's workload as he steps back into the Washington rotation. Brad Lord is expected to be moved to the bullpen with Soroka back in the fold.

The Nationals optioned Salazar to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.

Salazar will give up his spot on the 26-man active roster to right-hander Michael Soroka (biceps), who was reinstated from the injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Guardians. After securing his spot on the Opening Day roster coming out of spring training, Salazar collected two holds and allowed one earned run over six innings in his first six appearances of the season, but he's since tumbled down the bullpen hierarchy. He's given up runs in all but two of his subsequent 11 appearances and now holds a 9.77 ERA on the season.

Gorman is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Gorman is on the bench for a second straight game and the third time in the last four contests, with each absence coming against right-handed pitching. Alec Burleson -- who will start at designated hitter and will bat siixth Wednesday -- has been heating up at the plate of late and looks to have regained his standing over Gorman as the Cardinals' top DH option versus righties.

Lowder (forearm) allowed two runs on four hits while striking out five over three innings for the ACL Reds on Tuesday.

Lowder, who has been working his way back from a forearm injury since before spring training, made his 2025 debut in the Arizona Complex League. If the right-hander checks out OK, Lowder's next step will be to begin a rehab assignment at High-A Dayton.

Tucker went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Tuesday's 14-5 extra-innings loss to the Giants.

After snapping a four-game hitting streak with an 0-for-4 performance Monday, Tucker picked things right back up Tuesday. It was the outfielder's third multi-hit performance over his last six games, pushing his season batting average up to .290. Tucker's career high in that category is .294, and he's been a well-rounded fantasy contributor this year with nine home runs and 31 RBI, both of which are tied for the team lead, to go along with nine steals.

Swanson went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 14-5 extra-innings loss to the Giants.

Swanson and Kyle Tucker were the only Cubs with multiple hits as a ninth inning rally ultimately ended in defeat. The Chicago shortstop extended his hitting streak to eight games, during which time he's gone 14-for-30 with three home runs, five RBI and 10 runs scored. Swanson was batting just .181 with a .577 OPS before the recent hot streak, but he's now got more respectable .240 and .732 figures, respectively.
