Koss has slashed just .219/.275/.266 this season and had seen limited playing time recently. He should see more regular reps at Sacramento as a utility infielder.

The Giants signed Smith to a one-year contract Wednesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Smith opted out of his minor-league contract with the Yankees recently and has managed to land in a good situation in San Francisco. He could receive regular starts at first base against right-handed pitching for a Giants club that's been starved for production at the position. Smith slashed .317/.389/.622 with seven long balls and 22 RBI over 82 at-bats in 22 games in May while at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Giants designated Huff for assignment Wednesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Huff has slashed only .208/.259/.340 as the Giants' backup catcher, which wasn't good enough for him to stick around with the big club, especially since he's known more for his bat than his defense. Andrew Knizner was called up from Triple-A Sacramento and will take over as the team's new No. 2 catcher.

Wade sported a healthy .767 OPS from 2021 to 2024 with the Giants, but he's struggled to get going in 2025, producing a lowly .167/.275/.271 batting line with just one home run. The 31-year-old is sure to clear waivers given his $5 million salary, and he will likely find another opportunity in a new organization in short order. Dominic Smith was signed by the Giants on Wednesday and could see regular starts at first base.

Gorman went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's loss to the Royals.

Gorman started at designated hitter in what was his first time in the lineup in a week and immediately made his presence felt with a two-run blast off Michael Lorenzen in his first plate appearance. With Alec Burleson playing the outfield while Jordan Walker (wrist) is sidelined, Gorman could see more action in the DH spot in the immediate future, although that would require Ivan Herrera being used more frequently at catcher.

The Padres are optimistic Darvish (elbow) will be ready to make his season debut before the end of June, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Darvish had a setback with his right elbow following his lone rehab start in mid-May, but he threw his second bullpen session in as many days Tuesday. Both mound sessions were low intensity, with Darvish topping out at 90 mph, but he's slated to throw a more intense bullpen session Friday. There is no firm timetable for Darvish's return, with manager Mike Shildt saying the 38-year-old is "going to create his own timelines with us."

Walker felt soreness in his injured left wrist while hitting off a tee Monday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Walker went through additional imaging of the wrist joint afterward and it did not show any structural damage. While the setback seems to be minor, it's not clear when Walker will be ready to swing a bat again, and a minimum stay on the 10-day injured list now appears unlikely. Walker is eligible for activation June 8.

Mauricio went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Tuesday's extra-inning loss to the Dodgers.

Getting the start at third base and batting seventh in his 2025 debut. Mauricio grounded into a double play in the second inning and looked foolish chasing a Clayton Kershaw curveball in the dirt in the fourth, but he's hardly the first hitter to have trouble squaring up the future Hall of Famer. Mauricio could be in line for significant playing time while Mark Vientos (hamstring) is sidelined, platooning with Brett Baty at the hot corner while also seeing action at second base and DH. Mauricio won't match the absurd .515/.564/.818 slash line with three homers and four steals he posted in 39 plate appearances at Triple-A Syracuse, but the 24-year-old has intriguing fantasy upside.

Gallen (4-7) earned the win Tuesday in Atlanta after giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk over seven innings. He struck out four.

The right-hander pounded the zone with 65 of his 89 pitches going for strikes, and the single walk marks the first time he hasn't issued multiple free passes in a start since April 2. Gallen entered Tuesday with an 8.02 ERA and 17:11 K:BB in his previous four starts, but he was able to get back in the win column with his fifth quality start of the campaign. He'll carry a 5.13 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over 73.2 innings into his next start, which tentatively lines up for Sunday in Cincinnati.

Carroll went 3-for-4 with a walk, two home runs, four RBI and three runs in Tuesday's 8-3 win against Atlanta.

Carroll entered the contest in a 6-for-47 slump and hadn't produced a multi-hit game since May 16, but his bat came alive Tuesday with a solo homer in the fifth inning and a three-run blast in the ninth. The 25-year-old is already up to 18 homers this season and has a .262/.336/.578 slash line with 10 stolen bases, 39 RBI and 47 runs through 60 contests.
