Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Ejected from Sunday's contest
Hoerner was ejected from Sunday's game against the Tigers for arguing balls and strikes, Mike McGraw of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.
Hoerner struck out looking during the fifth inning and expressed his displeasure with the called third strike, which brought an early end to his afternoon. The second baseman finished the contest 0-for-2 and is now batting .231 (6-for-26) through seven games in June.

Drake Baldwin C | ATL
Braves' Drake Baldwin: Continuing to split reps
Baldwin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Baldwin and Sean Muphy have alternated starts behind the plate over the past 10 games, and that trend will continue after Baldwin went 1-for-4 with a strikeout in Saturday's contest. Murphy will bat sixth and do the catching for righty Spencer Strider in Sunday's series finale.

Alex Verdugo LF | SD
Braves' Alex Verdugo: On bench Sunday
Verdugo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at San Francisco.
Verdugo started the previous five games but will take a seat Sunday after going 3-for-15 with a double and an RBI during that span. Eli White will man left field and bat eighth against Giants righty Landen Roupp in the series finale.

Willy Adames SS | SF
Giants' Willy Adames: Receiving first day off in 2025
Adames is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Adames has started all 65 games (64 at shortstop, one at designated hitter) for the Giants this season, but he'll head to the bench Sunday after going 0-for-18 with four walks and eight strikeouts in his past six contests. The veteran shortstop inked a seven-year, $182 million contract with San Francisco in December, but his tenure has gotten off to a rocky start with a .584 OPS and just five homers in 278 plate appearances.

Jung Hoo Lee RF | SF
Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Sitting again Sunday
Lee (back) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Lee was held out of the lineup for Saturday's contest due to a bit of back tightness, per Tristi Rodriguez of NBC Sports Bay Area, and the center fielder will remain on the bench Sunday. The 26-year-old still appeared as a pinch hitter Saturday, so the injury doesn't appear to be a serious concern. Daniel Johnson is receiving a second straight start in center field for San Francisco.

Tony Gonsolin SP | LAD
Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: UCL intact
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated Sunday that scans of Gonsolin's injured right elbow showed that his UCL is intact, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Gonsolin underwent Tommy John surgery late in 2023, and there was concern about the health of his UCL when he experienced right elbow discomfort following his most recent start June 5. Despite the good news, Gonsolin will stop throwing for an undetermined period. He was placed on the 15-day IL on Saturday, but it's not clear how long he will be out of action.

Drew Avans OF | COL
Brewers' Drew Avans: Claimed, optioned by Milwaukee
The Brewers claimed Avans off waivers Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Nashville, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Avans was DFA'd by the Athletics on Friday and now has a new organization. The 28-year-old went 2-for-15 with a stolen base over seven games with the Athletics across late May and early June during his first taste of big-league action. Speed is his primary skill, as Avans has stolen as many as 40 bases (in 2022) in the minors.

Ryan Cusick RP | PHI
Phillies' Ryan Cusick: Claimed, optioned by Philadelphia
The Phillies claimed Cusick off waivers from the White Sox on Sunday and optioned him to their rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate.
Cusick has been riding a roller coaster between organizations of late -- he was designated for assignment by the Athletics on May 27 and claimed by Detroit three days later, only to be DFA'd by the Tigers before the White Sox claimed him June 4. Chicago subsequently DFA's the right-hander again Friday, and he's now been picked up by the Phillies. Cusick has yet to pitch in the majors, and he's posted a 6.32 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 11:14 K:BB over 15.2 innings across stops with two Triple-A teams so far this season.

Hiura is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.
It's the second straight game on the bench for Hiura, who has gone 2-for-11 with a double and two runs in five games since being added to the big-league roster last weekend.
