Falter (5-3) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over 5.1 innings during a 5-2 victory over the Marlins. He struck out three.

The left-hander blanked Miami through five innings before serving up a solo shot to Heriberto Hernandez to lead off the sixth, and he quickly got the hook one batter later after just 71 pitches (50 strikes). It was the first long ball Falter had given up since May 3, and over his last eight outings he's compiled an impressive 1.61 ERA and 0.96 WHIP across 44.2 innings despite a mediocre 24:16 K:BB. He faces a tougher test in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Detroit.

Acuna went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Brewers.

Acuna extended Atlanta's lead to 5-1 with a 416-foot blast in the fourth inning. The superstar thrived in Milwaukee, going 7-for-12 with two homers, four RBI and three runs scored during the three-game set. On the season, he's slashing .353/.436/.647 with six long balls, 11 RBI and 13 runs scored across 78 plate appearances.

Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Pirates.

The 25-year-old rookie spoiled a shutout bid from Bailey Falter by taking the southpaw deep to lead off the sixth inning. It was Hernandez's first career big-league homer in his ninth MLB contest, and he's supplied the Marlins with some surprising offense so far, batting .417 (10-for-24) with two doubles, three runs and three RBI -- a huge improvement on the .220/.319/.454 slash line he was sporting at Triple-A Jacksonville prior to his promotion.

Quantrill (3-7) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks over five innings as the Marlins were downed 5-2 by the Pirates. He struck out six.

It's the first time since April 30 that the right-hander has been tagged for more than three runs. Quantrill has found a few more whiffs lately, recording at least six strikeouts in four of his last seven trips to the mound while posting a 3.58 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 30:9 K:BB in 32.2 innings over that span. With Ryan Weathers (lat) back on the 60-day IL, Quantrill's rotation spot seems secure heading into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Phillies.

Patrick (3-6) took the loss against Atlanta on Wednesday, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks with eight strikeouts over five innings.

Patrick surrendered four of his five runs via the long ball in his first start this season allowing multiple homers. It was a mixed outing for the rookie, who set a career high with eight strikeouts but also saw his streak of 14 consecutive appearances with three or fewer earned runs come to an end. He'll carry a 3.25 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 71:24 K:BB across 74.2 innings into a road matchup with the Cubs next week.

The Giants designated Basabe for assignment Wednesday.

The move makes room on the Giants' 40-man roster for Logan Porter, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Sacramento after Patrick Bailey (neck) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Basabe was traded by the Rays to the Giants in February and was unable to crack San Francisco's Opening Day roster. He's slashing .242/.287/.352 with three steals, one triple, four home runs and 20 RBI across 198 plate appearances in Triple-A this season.

The Giants placed Bailey on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a neck strain, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

After sitting out Tuesday's contest due to neck spasms, Bailey has now been diagnosed with a strain in his neck and will be forced to miss at least the next week as a result. Logan Porter was selected from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move, though Andrew Knizner is likely to serve as San Francisco's primary catcher until Bailey returns.

The Giants selected Porter's contract from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.

With Patrick Bailey headed to the 10-day injured list due to a neck strain, Porter will join the big club and serve as the Giants' backup catcher behind Andrew Knizner. Porter signed a minor-league contract with the Giants in November and has a .669 OPS with two steals, two home runs and 13 RBI across 161 plate appearances in Triple-A this season. He last saw major-league action with the Royals in 2023, when he went 6-for-31 (.194) with one home run and three RBI in 11 regular-season games.

Donovan told reporters Wednesday that an MRI revealed a sprained capsule in the joint of his left big toe, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Donovan added that going on the injured list is a "worst-case [scenario]" and appeared optimistic that an IL stint isn't necessary. Still, his availability for the Cardinals' upcoming four-game road series against the Brewers is in question and would open the door for Nolan Gorman to see more work at the keystone. Donovan has gone 7-for-35 (.200) with four runs scored and two RBI since the beginning of June.

Bailey (neck) is not in the Giants' starting lineup against the Rockies on Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Bailey is out of the Giants' starting nine for a second consecutive game due to neck spasms. Andrew Knizner will start behind home plate and bat ninth while forming a battery with Robbie Ray.
