Carrigg is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

The Rockies will give the rookie a breather after he hit just .161 with a 3:10 BB:K while starting in each of the last eight games. With Carrigg on the bench, the Rockies will roll out a starting outfield of Zac Veen, Jake McCarthy and Mickey Moniak from left to right in the series opener in Washington, D.C.

Romero (appendectomy) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at High-A Wisconsin.

The 29-year-old southpaw will be making his organizational debut, after the Cardinals placed him on the injured list coming out of the All-Star break following his emergency appendectomy before trading him to the Brewers on Aug. 3. Because he's been out for more than a month, the Brewers will likely want Romero to make multiple appearances in the minors before clearing him to join the big-league bullpen. He could be a candidate for activation when the roster expands to 28 men Sept. 1.

Abrams (ankle) will start at designated hitter and bat leadoff in Monday's game against the Rockies.

Abrams missed the last four contests while recovering from a left ankle sprain, but he's feeling well enough to at least hit in Monday's series opener. When Abrams does return to playing a position, he's expected to serve as the Nationals' primary second baseman down the stretch.

Jimenez (knee) recently completed his fifth bullpen session since undergoing left knee surgery in April, Grant McAuley of the Marietta Daily Journal reports.

Jimenez has undergone three knee surgeries since he last pitched in the big leagues in September 2024. The veteran reliever noted that his most recent bullpen session was the best he's felt since he resumed throwing, and he'll have a chance to rejoin the Atlanta bullpen before the end of the season if all goes well.

The Rockies placed Freeland on the 15-day injured list Monday due to cervical radiculopathy.

Freeland will head to the IL for the second time this season, after shoulder inflammation kept him on the shelf for a brief spell in April. The veteran southpaw dealt with a pinched nerve in his neck during his most recent start last Wednesday against the Dodgers, and after he wasn't able to bounce back as well as the Rockies had hoped, the decision was made to deactivate him. The Rockies will call up Mason Adams from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday to join the rotation as a replacement for Freeland, who will be eligible to return Sept. 5.

Early (elbow) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Saturday, Danielle Allentuck of The Washington Post reports.

Early encountered a setback in early August when he experienced minor left forearm tightness during a live batting practice session. The left-hander has now resumed mound work as he looks to join the Nationals rotation sometime in September. Early hasn't pitched in a game since late June, when he was still a member of the Red Sox before he was traded to the Nationals on July 26.

The Nationals announced Monday that Wood (oblique) has extended his flat-ground throwing to 120 feet and has resumed hitting off a tee, Danielle Allentuck of The Washington Post reports.

Wood is three weeks removed from suffering a left oblique strain, and he's starting to increase his activity level. A timeline for Wood's return to the Nationals' active roster won't become clearer until he resumes taking batting practice, and the slugger could require a rehab assignment before coming back.

The Rockies plan to call up Adams from Triple-A Albuquerque to pitch in Tuesday's game against the Nationals in Washington, D.C., Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Adams is expected to be deployed as either a traditional starter or bulk reliever as a replacement in the rotation for lefty Kyle Freeland (neck), who is slated to go on the 15-day injured list. Acquired Aug. 3 as part of the deal that sent outfielder Brenton Doyle to the White Sox, Adams has posted a 2.08 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB in 13 innings over three starts at Albuquerque.

Despite making an early exit from his previous start last Wednesday against the Dodgers due to the injury, Freeland had been expected to be ready to go for his next turn through the rotation Tuesday in Washington. The veteran southpaw evidently hasn't bounced back from the neck issue as well as the Rockies had hoped, so the club is expected to call up right-hander Mason Adams from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Freeland's spot in the rotation. Freeland owns a 4-10 record, 6.37 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 103:28 K:BB across 124.1 innings over his 23 starts on the season.

The Brewers optioned Naylor to Triple-A Nashville on Monday.

Naylor was up with the Brewers as their 27th man in Sunday's MLB Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pa., but he remained on the bench for the entirety of a 4-2 loss to Atlanta. He'll head back to Nashville and may have to wait until the roster expands in September before he makes his Brewers debut.
