  • Rece Hinds RF | MIA

Reds' Rece Hinds: Back on bench vs. RHP

Hinds is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Hinds was included in the lineup in four of the past five games while Cincinnati faced a parade of southpaws, but he'll be back on the bench Sunday against Zack Wheeler. Hinds looks as though he'll be limited to the short side of a platoon in right field with Will Benson until Jake Fraley (shoulder) returns from the injured list.

  • Noelvi Marte RF | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Exiting lineup Sunday

Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Upon returning from the injured list Friday, Marte started the two straight games at third base, going 0-for-5 with two walks and an RBI. Though he looks to be the Reds' preferred option at the hot corner now that he's healthy, Marte will be rested Sunday and will give way to Christian Encarnacion-Strand.

  • Daylen Lile LF | WAS

Nationals' Daylen Lile: Idle against left-hander

Lile is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

With southpaw Garrett Crochet on the bump for Boston, Lile will be one of three lefty-hitting Nationals who will head to the bench, joining CJ Abrams and Luis Garcia. Alex Call will step in as the starting right fielder in place of Lile, who is slashing .258/.303/.339 with one home run and two steals in 16 games since receiving his second call-up of the season in mid-June.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Receiving rare day off

Abrams is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

With the Nationals and Red Sox wrapping up their series with a day game and Garrett Crochet on the bump for Boston, Washington skipper Dave Martinez viewed Sunday as an optimal time to give Abrams a day off. Paul DeJong will fill in at shortstop while Abrams exits the starting nine for the first time since June 8.

  • Luis Garcia 1B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Idle against southpaw

Garcia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

The Red Sox are sending Garrett Crochet to the hill, so Garcia will retreat to the bench after starting the first two games of the series. Amed Rosario will replace Garcia at second base.

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Resting up Sunday

Ruiz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

Ruiz will get a breather after he returned from the 7-day injured list Friday and started behind the plate in the first two games of the series with Boston, going 2-for-8 with an RBI. Riley Adams will step in as the Nationals' catcher Sunday.

  • Ryan Loutos RP | SEA

Nationals' Ryan Loutos: Returns to Triple-A

The Nationals optioned Loutos to Triple-A Rochester on Sunday.

The right-hander has an 11.32 ERA across 10.1 innings between the Dodgers and Nationals this season, which includes the two runs he allowed over three innings while pitching in the past two games for Washington. Loutos was demoted to free up roster space for Shinnosuke Ogasawara, who is starting Sunday against the Red Sox.

  • Mookie Betts SS | LAD

Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Continued uptick in power

Betts went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a double in a loss to Houston on Saturday.

Betts supplied two of the Dodgers' three extra-base hits in the loss, tagging Framber Valdez for a first-inning solo homer and adding a double in the seventh. The veteran superstar made a baserunning blunder on the two-bagger, as he was thrown out trying to stretch the hit to a triple with no outs in the inning, but the positive takeaway is that Betts seems to be regaining his power stroke -- following a 20-game stretch without a long ball, he's gone deep in two of his past three games. Betts is at 11 home runs on the campaign, so he's still a long way away from reaching the career-high mark of 39 that he set two seasons ago.

  • Nationals' Shinnosuke Ogasawara: Promoted for MLB debut

The Nationals selected Ogasawara's contract from Triple-A Rochester in advance of his start Sunday against the Red Sox in Washington.

The Japanese left-hander has been called up for his MLB debut after missing most of the first three months of the season due to an oblique injury. Ogasawara has a 4.80 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB in 15 innings over his three starts for Rochester this season. The 27-year-old inked a two-year, $3.5 million contract with the Nationals in January after spending the first nine seasons of his career in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball, where had had a 3.67 ERA and 7.1 K/9 in 190 games with the Chunichi Dragons.

  • Chad Patrick RP | MIL

Brewers' Chad Patrick: Sent to Triple-A

The Brewers optioned Patrick to Triple-A Nashville on Sunday.

The right-hander took a no-decision in Saturday's 4-2 loss to Miami after giving up two runs over five innings, and he'll be the odd man out of Milwaukee's rotation with Brandon Woodruff (elbow/ankle/shoulder) returning from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday's series finale. Patrick has been a quality rotation piece for the Brewers in his first 19 big-league outings this season with a 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 95:30 K:BB across 94.2 innings, but Milwaukee doesn't need six starters while heading into the final week before the All-Star break. Patrick is likely to receive another look in the Brewers rotation at some point during the second half, but for now, he'll head to Nashville for the first time in 2025.
