Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN
Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Likely to play Friday
Suarez (hand) is expected to be in Friday's lineup against the Cardinals, Alex Weiner of AZ Sports reports.
Suarez was hit in the hand by a pitch during the All-Star Game but avoided serious injury. Manager Torey Lovullo spoke with relative certainty that Suarez would be in the lineup Friday, but it will still be worth confirming before first pitch at 9:40 p.m. ET.

Shelby Miller RP | CHC
Diamondbacks' Shelby Miller: Resumes throwing
Miller (forearm) began a throwing program Thursday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Miller sought a second opinion on his flexor tendon and UCL just before the All-Star break and apparently received good news. It's unclear how quickly he'll return, but this is still good progress in his recovery.

Thomas Saggese LF | STL
Cardinals' Thomas Saggese: Sent to minors
Saggese was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Saggese filled primarily a bench role since he was recalled June 20, and he hit just .133 with three RBI and two runs scored across 45 at-bats. No official corresponding move has been made, but it could signify the return of Jordan Walker (appendix).

Paul Skenes SP | PIT
Pirates' Paul Skenes: Could have more shortened outings
The Pirates are not expected to skip any of Skenes' starts in the second half but will likely have him throw a few more "low-volume outings" as a means to manage his workload, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
The club is also expected to give Skenes extra rest in between starts a few times in the second half, when possible. Skenes threw 160.1 innings in 2024, and Hiles believes the Pirates' goal is to get the righty into the 190s in 2025, with 200 innings being the cap. It's relatively mild as far as workload limitations go, but it does dampen Skenes' outlook slightly. The right-hander began to see his workload curtailed a bit late in the first half, as he threw fewer than 80 pitches in three of his last four starts and fewer than 90 pitches in the other outing. Prior to that, Skenes had averaged 98.7 pitches per start in his first 16 outings of the season.

Chen-Wei Lin SP | STL
Cardinals' Chen-Wei Lin: Goes on IL at High-A
Lin was placed on the 7-day injured list at High-A Peoria on Thursday with an undisclosed injury.
It's not clear when Lin was hurt or what injury he's battling, but he had struggled in his last five starts with Peoria, posting a 7.27 ERA and 23:18 K:BB over 17.1 frames. The 6-foot-7 Lin is one of the Cardinals' better pitching prospects, but he's yet to advance past A-ball at 23 years old and is now injured.

Owen Caissie RF | MIA
Cubs' Owen Caissie: Potential trade bait?
With the Cubs seeking to make a push toward the World Series this season, Caissie is a candidate to get moved before the trade deadline, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
Caissie has been on fire for Triple-A Iowa, posting a .951 OPS and 19 home runs through 73 games. The 23-year-old outfielder seems ready to make his MLB debut, though he's currently blocked by the likes of Ian Happ, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki. The Cubs figure to be active at the deadline as they look to make a push this year, and rival teams will certainly inquire about Caissie as part of any deal, with the potential of him slotting in at the MLB level right away. If he's not traded, Caissie may debut for Chicago in 2026, particularly if Tucker departs in free agency during the offseason.

Connor Norby 1B | MIA
Marlins' Connor Norby: Out 6-to-8 weeks after hand surgery
Norby will be sidelined for 6-to-8 weeks after undergoing surgery on a broken left hamate bone Wednesday, Craig Mish of FanDuel Sports Network Florida reports.
Norby landed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with what was referred to as left wrist inflammation at the time, but a visit with a specialist revealed the need for surgery. He will be shelved until at least late August, and players often struggle to regain their power stroke initially upon returning from a hamate operation. Graham Pauley should be the Marlins' primary third baseman while Norby is sidelined.

Gavin Sheets 1B | SD
Padres' Gavin Sheets: Back from paternity leave
The Padres activated Sheets from the paternity list Wednesday.
Sheets missed the final game prior to the All-Star break while he welcomed a new addition to the family, but he will be ready to roll for the first game of the second half. The 29-year-old was a pleasant surprise for the Padres in the first half, collecting a .775 OPS with 14 home runs. Sheets has been an everyday player for the Padres since late April, but it's possible a trade-deadline acquisition could push him to the long side of a platoon. The left-handed-hitting Sheets has an .810 OPS against righties as compared to a .689 OPS versus lefties in 2025.

Jesus Tinoco RP | MIA
Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Shifts to 60-day IL
The Marlins transferred Tinoco (forearm) to the 60-day injured list Wednesday.
A right forearm strain sent Tinoco to the injured list in early June. The 30-year-old reliever has been throwing since mid-June and is nearing a return to mound work, though his move to the 60-day IL will ensure he remains out until at least Aug. 5. His 40-man roster spot will be handed to Michael Petersen, who was acquired in a trade with Atlanta on Wednesday.

Michael Petersen RP | MIA
Marlins' Michael Petersen: Shipped to Miami
Atlanta traded Petersen to the Marlins on Wednesday in exchange for cash, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Petersen has bounced between Triple-A and MLB this season, giving up three runs in 6.2 innings during his time in the majors. Now changing organizations for the second time this season, he'll report to Triple-A Jacksonville to begin his tenure with the Marlins and take Jesus Tinoco's (forearm) place on the 40-man roster.
