Stephenson (thumb) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels.

Tom Cosgrove RP | HOU
Cubs' Tom Cosgrove: Returns to Triple-A
The Cubs optioned Cosgrove to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.
The left-hander was called up ahead of Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader and will return to the minors after not appearing in the matinee. Cosgrove has made just two appearances in the majors this season and has a 4.66 ERA across 38.2 relief innings at Triple-A.

Willy Adames SS | SF
Giants' Willy Adames: Receives day off
Adames is not in the Giants' lineup versus the Padres on Tuesday.
Adams heads to the bench for just the second time this year as he had started in 124 of the Giants' 125 games played prior to Tuesday night's matchup. The shortstop has struggled since the start of August with a .123/.197/.262 slash line across 71 plate appearances in 16 games. Casey Schmitt is set to start at shortstop Tuesday in place of Adames.

Jordan Wicks SP | CHC
Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Up for twin bill
The Cubs recalled Wicks from Triple-A Iowa to serve as the 27th man for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Brewers.
The left-hander will come up to provide some bullpen help for Tuesday's nightcap. Wicks has made just four appearances in the big leagues this year and has given up nine earned runs over 8.1 innings, though he has a 3.62 ERA in 17 outings (14 starts) for Iowa.

Jameson Taillon SP | CHC
Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Activated for Game 2 start
The Cubs reinstated Taillon (calf) from the 15-day injured list to start Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Brewers.
The right-hander was poised to return Monday before Game 2 of that doubleheader was postponed by a day, and he's now officially back on the active roster to make his first MLB start since June 29. Taillon surrendered 15 runs while losing his last three starts before landing on the injured list, but prior to that stretch he had a 3.48 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 65:16 K:BB over 82.2 innings this year. The 33-year-old threw 84 pitches over 5.1 frames in his final rehab outing, so he shouldn't have significant workload limitations.

JP Sears SP | SD
Padres' JP Sears: Rejoining big-league rotation
Manager Mike Shildt said that Sears will be recalled from Triple-A El Paso to start Wednesday's game against the Giants, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
The left-hander was demoted Aug. 8 after surrendering five earned runs over five innings in his debut outing with the Padres, but he'll return to the big leagues for another look Wednesday. Prior to that poor appearance, Sears had a 4.95 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 97:29 K:BB across 111 innings with the Athletics this season.

Cade Gibson RP | MIA
Marlins' Cade Gibson: Promoted Tuesday
The Marlins recalled Gibson from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday.
The left-hander has spent the past 10 days at Triple-A but will rejoin the Marlins with Anthony Bender (lower leg) landing on the injured list. Gibson has recorded four holds with a 3.38 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 26:11 K:BB across 34.2 major-league innings this season.

Anthony Bender RP | MIA
Marlins' Anthony Bender: Moves to injured list
The Marlins placed Bender on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to a right tibial stress reaction.
The right-hander made his last appearance Sunday in Boston and fired a scoreless inning to pick up a save, but he'll now be unavailable for at least the next couple weeks. Calvin Faucher, Ronny Henriquez and Lake Bachar should continue to share closing duties for Miami while Bender is sidelined.

Kyle Tucker RF | LAD
Cubs' Kyle Tucker: Idle for both games of doubleheader
Tucker is out of the lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Brewers.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell previously said Monday that Tucker would receive multiple days off while he fights through an extended slump at the plate. After he went 0-for-4 in the Cubs' 7-0 loss to the Brewers in the first game of Monday's scheduled doubleheader, the second contest was postponed, resulting in the two teams playing a twin bill Tuesday. Tucker sat out the Cubs' 6-4 win in Game 1 and will now take a seat again for Game 2 while Owen Caissie draws another start in right field.

Jake Cronenworth 1B | SD
Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Rare lineup omission
Cronenworth is not in the Padres' lineup versus the Giants on Tuesday.
Cronenworth has missed just one game in 2025 that he has been healthy for. The last game the second baseman did not start was July 13, but he still entered off the bench for a plate appearance. With the left-handed bat on the bench Tuesday, Jose Iglesias has the start at second base and is batting eighth.
