  • Gavin Williams SP | CLE

Guardians' Gavin Williams: Roughed up by Orioles

Williams (1-4) took the loss Sunday against Baltimore, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks across four innings. he struck out eight.

Williams punched out eight or more batters for a third consecutive start but yielded his most runs in an appearance this season. The 24-year-old entered Sunday having allowed one home run in 26.0 big-league innings. However, he was tagged for a pair of home runs in the fourth inning, ending his day at 86 pitches. The right-hander has a 4.91 ERA with a 39:13 K:BB across 33 innings this season. He's on track to pitch during a four-game set against the Twins next weekend.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Reaches 20-steal mark

Neto went 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Mets.

Neto didn't have an extra-base hit over 12 games from July 21 to Aug. 2, but he's now hit a homer and a triple in his last two games. The shortstop's steal Sunday was his 20th of the year, and nine of them have come since the start of July. For the season, he's managed a .256/.320/.439 slash line with 14 home runs, 51 RBI, 49 runs scored, 23 doubles and one triple over 109 contests.

  • Angels' Roansy Contreras: Notches second save

Contreras struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Mets.

Contreras has allowed just two runs over 10.1 innings while posting a 13:2 K:BB since moving back to the bullpen July 14. He hasn't been a candidate for much high-leverage work, but he got the save chance Sunday as the only Angels reliever to pitch less than twice over the previous five days. Through 48 innings between the Angels and the Pirates this year, Contreras has a 4.13 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 46:21 K:BB, though it appears his performance has turned a corner after a poor stint in the Angels' rotation. Still, Ben Joyce and Hunter Strickland figure to be the favorites for the few save chances the Angels will generate the rest of the way.

  • Angels' Griffin Canning: Wins despite walking four

Canning (4-10) allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks while striking out eight over five innings, earning the win over the Mets on Sunday.

Canning's control was lacking as he threw just 54 of 97 pitches for strikes, but he did a decent job of preventing runs. Harrison Bader and Francisco Lindor each had RBI singles in the contest. It's been up and down results for Canning recently -- this was just the fourth time in 10 starts he's allowed less than four runs, and it was his first win since June 24. The right-hander still has an ugly 5.10 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 93:47 K:BB over 121.2 innings across 23 starts this season. He could match his career high for innings pitched (127) in his next start, which is tentatively projected to be a road outing versus the Nationals.

  • Zack Gelof 3B | ATH

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Notches 13th steal

Gelof went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers.

Gelof continues to have trouble getting on base -- he has gone 2-for-24 with one walk and one hit-by-pitch over his last eight contests. He's also been caught stealing twice in that span, with his theft Sunday his first successful one since July 22. The second baseman's slump has him down to a .189/.255/.351 slash line with 13 home runs, 13 steals, 35 RBI and 38 runs scored across 89 contests. The Athletics aren't competitive this year, so they'll let their talented infielder work things out on the diamond, though the return of Darell Hernaiz could eventually cost Gelof some playing time at the keystone since Max Schuemann has played well at shortstop.

  • Athletics' Lawrence Butler: Picks up ninth steal

Butler went 0-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers.

Butler was hitless for the third time in four contests, but he was still able to pick up his ninth steal of the year. Since taking over the leadoff spot July 13, Butler has gone 24-for-70 (.343) over 17 contests, though he's now gone four games without a multi-hit effort. He's at a .246/.312/.466 slash line with 12 home runs, 35 RBI, 34 runs scored, 12 doubles and two triples over 79 games this season. His 27.7 percent strikeout rate is a bit lofty for the leadoff role, but he's displayed enough contact ability to be passable atop Oakland's order with few better options available.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Logs third steal

Andujar went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers.

Andujar has gone 9-for-20 (.450) over his last five contests while seeing a starting role in left field. His steal Sunday was just his third theft on five attempts -- the outfielder's career high in stolen bases is four from the 2022 campaign, so speed is not a big part of his game. He's been good from a contact standpoint this year, slashing .300/.327/.408 with four home runs, 28 RBI, 27 runs scored, 12 doubles and a triple over 59 contests, but he offers little in power or speed while regularly batting second in a weak lineup.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

Athletics' Brent Rooker: Lifts long ball in loss

Rooker went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers.

Rooker was responsible for the Athletics' only scoring play of the day when he took River Ryan deep in the first inning. With 10 homers over his last 17 contests -- a span in which he's batting .328 (21-for-64) with 25 RBI -- Rooker is providing power at an elite level. The slugger is up to 28 long balls, 81 RBI, 55 runs scored, seven stolen bases and a .290/.365/.591 slash line through 98 games this season.

  • Osvaldo Bido RP | CHW

Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Stuck with loss Sunday

Bido (2-3) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Dodgers.

Bido earned his first quality start with his longest outing of the year, but he wasn't able to dodge his second loss in a row. The right-hander avoided giving up a home run in a third straight start, but he's posted a 12:7 K:BB over his last 9.2 innings, and it will be tough for him to find steady success if his walk rate remains high. For the year, he's at a 4.64 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 34:18 K:BB over 33 innings across 10 appearances (four starts). He's tentatively projected to make his next start at Toronto.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Adds another homer

Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-2 loss to the Red Sox.

Seager has three homers over his last three contests, going 5-for-12 in that span. The shortstop's blast opened the scoring in the first inning Sunday. Seager is up to 22 long balls, 54 RBI, 55 runs scored, one stolen base, 14 doubles and a .277/.359/.491 slash line through 99 games this season, though he's batting a more impressive .391 (18-for-46) over his last 11 contests.
